Cornerstone Contact

From The Principal....

Welcome to the last week of school! . Where has the time gone! With this beautiful weather it just seems like we should be winding down doesn’t it? This weather works out wonderfully for a few classes as they head off to various places for year-end class trips. The Jr/Sr class left early this morning for their Oregon trip, the 9/10 class is off to the Cultus Lake waterslides for today and the 7/8 class leave tomorrow for Mt. Erie (rock climbing), Mt. St. Helens and touring the Capitol building. We pray the Lord grants traveling mercies to all and we hope to see you all back safely on Thursday evening.

Friday evening we say goodbye to 15 students who will be leaving our school for good and moving on to new and exciting challenges. Congratulations to Kristin, Hailey, Heidi, Aaron, Benjamin, Dallas, Elyssa, Jaclyn, Daniel, Katrine, Jocelyn, Luke, Jonathan, Brent & Seth. We pray the Lord blesses each one of you as you embark on this new chapter of your lives.

We also say goodbye to a wonderful teacher we have had on staff here for 6 years, Mrs. Chase. May you continue to experience the Lord’s indispensable blessing as you take up your retirement years after many years in the classroom serving the Reformed communities in various places. Thank you for all you have done here at Cornerstone! Our children had a great start to their schooling years under your careful tutelage. We also pray the Lord grants you good recuperation after your surgery in a couple of weeks.

From here too, we’d also like to thank all our PT staff who took on smaller roles this year and will be leaving CCS. Your contribution in our ‘hour of need’ is very much appreciated and we’re grateful that things went so smoothly due to your professionalism. Thank-you, Miss Willis, Mrs. Lodder, Mrs. Bareman, Mrs. Vreugdenhil, Miss Hicks, and Mrs. Berends. May you continue to enjoy the other tasks you have in God’s kingdom.

Friday we will have just a half day of school. You are all welcome to come at 10:45am for our closing assembly/ farewell for Mrs. Chase. Students will be released at 11:30am.

Birthday greetings this week: Just one but it is an important one. Congratulations to Mr. Kleyn! He will celebrate a BIG one on Friday ! Many blessings to you in the coming year.

Note from Mrs. A.Chase

~~

We are thankful for the faithful preaching each LORD’s Day! It has been a great pleasure and privilege to be part of the teaching staff here at Cornerstone Christian School. I am thankful to God for the opportunity I had these past 6 years to teach the next generation here in Lynden His works of Creation and Salvation. Again this year, I have enjoyed a delightful group of children. I have also much appreciated the support we teachers receive from the community. I could not have done all the work at school without your help. This week will conclude the school year 14/15, and we ask our Covenant LORD to give protection during the summer ahead. We wish all the students His loving care as they move on to the next grade. Congratulations to the 12th grade graduates for completing their schooling here at CCS. May God be with you as you move on to continue the task God has given you.

This week we will be completing our units, finish our lessons, and be (very) busy cleaning up the classroom.  The report cards will be handed out on the last day.

Wishing you all God’s care and protection!

This brings us to the last week of this school, and as we look back we can see God's love and care for us. He has provided us with healthy strong bodies that grow, and minds that

develop to learn and serve. I would like to thank the parents for doing your part in nurturing your children to become image bearers of their heavenly Father. I pray that this year has helped your children develop their talents to fulfill this task.

I want to start this final Contact note for the year with a big Thank you! I was charged with the privileged task of teaching your covenant children this year, but I most certainly did not do this on my own. This was a team effort! Your promise of prayers at the beginning was already a sign to me that I was not going to be taking on this job alone. However, even knowing I had your support, it was still overwhelming at times to be on the receiving end of so much kindness and helpfulness. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for all you did to assist and support the learning in the 3rd and 4th grade classroom this year.

Our final week will be one of finishing up a few projects, a final review of subjects and clean up. It’s sure to be another speedy week.

I wish a good summer to each and every one of you. Our heavenly Father brought us to this point. May He bless the work of our hands and to Him be all the glory.

Grade 4 Language Arts:

This has been a fantastic year, full of great stories, insights, writing at a whole new level—and the growth that comes with it. Each student in this class has made remarkable strides! To finish off our year, we will be watching the recent film version of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” reviewing some of our favorite things, completing handwriting books, and cleaning up. Farewell to a wonderful class, and enjoy your summer!

~~ Note from Mrs. Van Hofwegen ~~

This is our last week of school; I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. It has been

an enjoyable year with a sweet, kind and loving class. I will definitely miss the sixth

graders who are moving on to seventh grade and I’m glad I will have the fifth graders as

sixth graders for next year. Here are some highlights of this past year: writing letters to

famous authors, painting pottery at Tickled Pink, conducting a science experiment with

germs, sending off balloons to go along with our novel, Twenty One Balloons, and last but

not least, visiting the USS Joy Turner Destroyer in Bremerton (this was my favorite). We’ve

had a great year! Thank you parents, for all of your prayers, help and support this past

year. We couldn’t do it without you!

BOXTOPS for EDUCATION

Please remember to continue to clip and collect BOXTOPS during the summer! If you currently have some hanging around please remember to put them in the container on the office counter at school or in my mailbox at church this week. I will be sending out another batch before the end of June for our final contribution for the school year. We’ve still got a ways to go to meet our goal of $750 but we’ve already earned more than we have in the past so please keep on clipping. There are opportunities for bonus boxtops during “back to school” time; be sure to look for them. Please

remember “Labels for Education” are NOT the same as BOXTOPS. Your BOXTOPS coordinator, Karla Leyenhorst

Recycling!

REMINDER!!!! The pop can recycling program is an ongoing endeavor here at Cornerstone.

This means that even through the summer you can drop off your cans in the recycling bins in the

dumpster area at school or you can just store them at home and bring them in when school
