PROGRAM: WEEK OF THE MIDDLEAGES 2012

Welcome to Numedal – the Medieval Valley. Culturally unique and naturally beautiful, and situated in the middle of Eastern Norway.

Take a trip through scenic Numedal, where the Numedal River flows from Hardangervidda to Kongsberg. Visit Norway’s largest collection of medieval buildings – including four stave churches – and explore the art and heritage dating back to The Middle Ages.

Week of The Middle Ages

Every summer the valley hosts “Week of The Middle Ages” – a week filled with both cultural events and experiences in nature. This year it takes place from July 23rd – 29th.

You can visit stave churches, open-air museums and privately owned medieval buildings. Stave churches and open-air museums also offer guided tours during “Week of The Middle Ages”. They are the perfect historic backdrop for many of the activities, concerts and cultural evenings that take place. Vangestadloftet in Flesberg, Alfstadloftet i Rollag and the medieval farms of Søre Kravik and

Mellom Kravik in Nore are open every day. At these lofts (traditional storage houses) and farms you

can see characteristic and decorative woodcarvings from medieval times up close, and learn more about their history.
