In the “G20 Initiative for Early Childhood Development”, G20 countries committed to share best practices and lessons learned through a platform that will be developed by ECDAN and will be operative by 2019.
G20 countries are invited to voluntarily submit projects, programs, policies, or similar initiatives
implemented domestically, internationally or through official development assistance that are aimed Early Childhood Development, prioritizing those which address the issue in a multidimensional manner.

General information
(4) Brief Description
The “Criança Feliz” Program is an initiative of the federal government to expand the network that provides integral care for ECD.
Through home visits to the families with children from zero to six years old participating in the Bolsa Família (cash transfer program), this program provides them with important guidelines to strengthen family and community ties and stimulate child development.
In an intersectoral approach, the program is executed by the Ministry of Social Development in partnership with the Ministries of Health, Education, Human Rights and Culture in order to facilitate access to policies and public services directed to pregnant women, children in early childhood and their families.
(5) What are the expected results/impacts/beneficiaries of the project/program/policy/initiative?
• Promote integral child development;
• Support pregnant women and their families in preparing for the birth of the child;
• Care for vulnerable children up to six years of age;
• Strengthen the affective bond and the role of families in the care, protection and education of children;
• Stimulate the development of play activities;
• Facilitate the access of the families served to the public policies and services that they need.

1)The Department of Early Childhood Care of the National Secretariat for the Promotion of Human Development executes the monitoring of the program, which allows the management of the program to:
• Follow the execution of the program;
• Identify and correct weaknesses and correspondingly improve the program
• Continuously assess the effects of the program on the local population.
2) An impact evaluation is coordinated by an internationally recognized expert (Dr. Cesar Victora MD) in partnership with another five national universities.
3) A qualitative assessment by external consultants measures home visitors’ and families’ perception about the Program.
