The primary use of solar inverters is to convert direct current to alternating current through an electrical switching process. Solar technology has the potential to be used as alternative sources of energy. There are three types of solar inverters:
Why Solar System
Advantages of Solar System:
1. Return on Investment
2. Increased renewable portfolio.
3. Capture Market opportunity.
4. Hedge against fuel price risk.
5. Reduce carbon emissions.
1. Solar radiation is the largest renewable energy source.
2. 30 % MNRE Subsidy on Capital.
3. Save 30% tax on investment.
4. The solar energy is more evenly distributed in the world than wind or biomass.
5. Solar energy is consistent.
6. Environmentally friendly - No Noise, No Smoke, No Pollution.
7. It promises to be most cost effective renewable power at high volumes.
8. It is well proven and demonstrated technology.
In addition the solar photovoltaic technology offers following advantages:
1. No recurring fuel cost.
2. Clean, silent and no moving parts.
3. Modular, Reliable with Low Maintenance.
4. Environmentally sound, does not contribute to greenhouse gas emission.
5. ISO 14001 recognizes use of environment friendly technologies.
6. Can be installed at the point of use and prevents transmission line losses.

1. Stand-alone inverters are often used to convert direct current produced by many renewable energy sources like solar panels or small wind turbines, into the alternating current (AC).
2. It runs by pulling direct current power from batteries charged by other resources like engine generators, hydro turbines and wind turbines.
3. Stand-alone inverters refill the battery coming from an alternating current source whenever possible.
4. It is used in homes and in small industrial buildings as a power backup.
5. A 100 watt inverter can be used in the powering of a portable (laptop or notebook) computer.
1. Grid tie inverters are programmed to automatically turn off during power losses to ensure safety Hence it saves the value of the product and its durability.
2. The Grid Tie Inverters allows the homeowner to work with a power company. The electricity is collected through panels and will be stored to the batteries for further consumption.
3. Once the energy is not in use, you can decide to sell it to the power company, which prevents you from wasting the energy.
1. The battery backup inverters are developed to get energy from batteries.
2. It also manages the energy charge it gets from the battery through the onboard charger.
3. It brings the extra energy to the utility grid.
4. They supply alternating current power to selected areas which will need energy during a power outage.
5. The battery backup inverters are also required to be installed with an anti-islanding protection.
6. The Battery Backup Inverters are appropriate for commercial establishments. It is a great advantage to have such panels since they can save more money rather than renting generators and paying for the gas.
TYPE OF INVERTERS
In simple terms, the photo effect describes the conversion of light into an electric current. To describe this mechanism more formally, it is best to think of light in terms of a stream of photons where each photon carries one quantum of energy. Each photon is associated with just one wavelength or frequency. High- frequency photons have more energy than the ones with low frequency.

The layers of a Solar Module
All PV- modules contain a number of layers from the light-facing side to the back:
1. Usually made from glass, though in thin-film modules this can also be transparent plastic.
2. The electric contact at the front, has to be transparent, as otherwise, light would not get into the cell.
3. The heart of the module is the layer where the light is absorbed and converted into electric current. All materials used are semiconductors. In many cells, this is just one material, in most instances, silicon. However, in order to improve performance, there could be multiple layers of different materials. In addition, all layers are be doped. I.e. each layer is split further into an n-dopedand a p-doped zone. See below for more details on doping.
4. A conductor at the back completes the electric circuitry.
5. A laminate ensures that the structure is water-proof and isolated from heat.
6. This layer gives protection on the back side of the module. It may be glass, it may also be made of aluminum or plastic.
7. Finally, the module is fitted with connectors and cables, so it can be wired.

Basic Representation of system
The proposed Solar Power System will include erection of reputed make photovoltaic modules and the generated DC power from module will be fed to the Inverter and simultaneously charge the battery bank.
The conversion of DC to AC through a reputed make power conditioning unit with Solar charging and Grid charging options along with necessary mounting structure will be provided with other requisite accessories. The Battery stores the energy for loads when solar Power is not there. This system is ideal to reduce high electricity bills and reduce high diesel gen-set running costs.

Grid-connected, large-scale installation
Junction Box
DC Switch
Inverter Transformer AC Switch
In large-scale installations, multiple modules are connected through a junction box, which is just that, but also provides surge protection.
In order to be able to undertake repair or general maintenance work, the solar generator must be separated from the inverter. This is achieved by a DC switch close to the inverter. As the modules continue to generate electricity as long as there is sufficient light, the DC switch must cope with the short-circuit current as well as the open-circuit voltage.
Just unplugging a string of modules may cause a corona with a risk of fire. Some manufacturers of inverters offer integrated DC switches.
Inverters used here will most likely produce a 3-phase AC, which is more common in industrial contexts.
An optional transformer may step up the voltage to very high voltage required by the grid.
An AC switch is required by grid operators to ensure safety. It automatically switches off the grid connection if error currents, changes in frequency or voltage are detected

Grid-connected, small-scale installation
In a small-scale, most likely residential, installation, the pv- module has to be connected to an . The purpose of an inverter is to
Change the direct current (DC) output of a solar module to an alternating current (AC), which is used by all appliances.
Ÿ Transform the voltage from the module's voltage to voltage required.
In small-scale installations the AC output from the inverter is a 2-phase AC, which is common in households. The inverter output can be connected to the grid via a meter.

Some inverters may also provide surge protection. However, this may not be enough if the wires between the solar module and the inverter are longer than 10m, when additional surge protection devices ought to be considered.

Most inverters also include the
Where crystalline modules are used, partial shading of the entire roof (for instance caused by a tree or the chimney), the module will only generate as much current as its weakest string. In this instance, each string should have its own MPP- tracker, resulting in efficiency gains of up to 8% according to .
