One of the main reasons our parish is dynamic, engaged, involved and faith- filled is due to the number of people who volunteer their me and talents.
For a number of years, we’ve set aside two weekends in September to en- courage people to volunteer for one or more ministries. We were on a role with over 300 volunteers un l Covid restric ons hit us over a year ago.
Much of the momentum slowed as many ministries weren’t able to func on and others only allowed minimal & restricted par cipa on.
It’s me for us to pick up the momentum in our faith celebra ons, educa- onal opportuni es, youth and adult outreach and community engagements
BUT we need everyone’s help. There are many excuses people use to not volunteer i.e. too old, no me, too busy etc... However, whatever me you can give is of tremendous value to our staff and parishioners.
Fortunately for our parish, many recognize the need, want to help and are willing to assist wherever they’re needed and sign up for one or more ministries.
Those who’ve volunteered in the past have found that they get more out of Mass by par cipa ng in one or more of the liturgical/worship ministries, others have come to a be er understanding of their faith by tak- ing advantage of classes that are offered. A number see a side benefit of volunteering has been the oppor- tunity to meet other parishioners that they see every week but never get to meet.
BONUS Many of these ministries (coffee & donuts, mass prepara on, greeters & ushers, Giving Tree, Thanksgiving Dinner, altar guild, youth group, etc.) can be done as a family involving children with parents.
What a great way to teach children by modeling our faith in ac on.
The center pages of the bulle n list a number of ministries. Please check out the ministries again (there are new ones) and sign up for one a er Mass this weekend. You’ll be glad that you did. The vitality of our parish is dependent not only on the Lord’s grace and guidance but your help.
- Fr. Devine
2019 Parish Volunteers
I personally would like to thank all those who volunteered their me to make the Welcome Back Block party a success. Over 200 people of all ages enjoyed pony and train rides, face pain ng, bouncy house, spray ta oos, making ty-dye shirts, dunk tank, games, live music and food. It was a GREAT day with GREAT weath- er. In addi on to the ac vi es and food, the party enabled people to once again engage with each other and meet other families in our parish.
It’s ac vi es like this sponsored by the Social Commi ee that brings people come together. In addi on to all the volunteers I would especially like to thank Aaron Durocher, our pastoral assistant, and Vicki Scopa, Chair- woman of the Social Commi ee, for their leadership in planning and organizing this event. I thank Fr. Giom- be for driving the train and giving Eric a break and for Winston of entertaining the children….and adults.
Please consider joining the Social Commi ee during our Volunteer Weekends.

St. Padre Pio was born Francesco Forgione, on May 25, 1887, in Pietrelcina, Italy. From his tender age, Francisco had a pecu- liar ability. He could see guardian angels, spoke with Jesus and the Virgin Mary. This was not something taught to him, but occurred so naturally that he assumed other people could see them too.
On one occasion during prayer, a fellow monk astonishingly reported he saw Pio levitate during an episode of ecstasy.
In 1915, with World War I afflic ng the world, Padre Pio was summoned for military ser- vice. However, he was so sickly that he was o en sent home, only to then be recalled for service.
On September 20, Padre Pio was hearing confessions when he felt pain in his hands and feet. He no ced the s gmata, the wounds of Christ, appearing on his hands and feet.
The experience was painful. The wounds smelled of roses, and although they con nued to weep, they never became infected. Doctors who later examined the s gmata were amazed at their perfectly round shape.
His popularity became a source of concern for the Church and the Va can began to re-
strict his ac vi es to minimize public interac on. Padre Pio himself was uncomfortable with his newfound popularity and the a en on he received because of his s gmata. A Church inves ga on into his s gmata concluded that his condi on was not faked and they allowed him to once again perform public du es.
Padre Pio became interna onally famous. He was known for his piety, charity and the quality of his preaching. He famously advised, "Pray, hope and don't worry."
