Aim: To develop decision making processes

Pupils to brainstorm the two words FREAK and CIRCUS

Consider what title is telling us about text

Teacher to introduce idea of “Circus of Freaks” - Read through information sheet and discuss pupils response to this type of circus

In pairs pupils to consider whether people should still be allowed to visit ‘freak’ shows and compile a two sided argument

Aim: To develop active reading strategies and infer information

Inferring information- display image from www.darrenshan.com and give pupils 5 minutes to infer information from image

Establish genre of text and consider

Aim: To revise the conventions of discursive writing and understand how connectives help structure a response

Display ‘Discursive Texts’ and ask pupils to identify the features of this type of writing
