Quick Start Guide

It's easy to get started with Arkay Remote Data Backup and Recovery Service. To start using Arkay Remote Data Backup right now, just follow these simple steps:

1. Register with Arkay Systems

Register for a free trial or paid Arkay Remote Data Backup account at

http://www.arkaysystems.com/remotebackup.asp. Once registered, you’ll also receive an email welcoming you to Arkay Remote Data Backup that will contain additional instructions to help you correctly setup and use your online backup account. If you don’t receive this email, please send us an email at

[email protected] requesting that the welcome email be re-sent to you.

2. Download and install the Arkay Remote Data Backup client

Once you successfully complete your registration, you’ll be provided with a hyperlink to download the Arkay Remote Data Backup client.

If you are not redirected, you can download the backup client from the Arkay Systems web site,

www.arkaysystems.com/downloads/RemoteBackup/setup.exe. Click on the Support/Downloads link.

The software will be downloaded to your computer for final installation. The download time will depend on the speed of your Internet connection. On most high-speed networks, this will take less than one minute. Slower dial-up connections may take dial-up to 30 minutes.

4. Getting Started Wizard

Once installation of Arkay Remote Data Backup is complete, Arkay Remote Data Backup will automatically start and launch the Getting Started Wizard in order to guide you through the configuration process and setup of your first backup.

Backup Server Location Screen

The Backup server name and server port have been pre-configured and should not be modified from their original settings.

Server Name: remotebackup.arkaysystems.com Server Port: 308

Backup Server Authentication

This screen has been pre-configured to the correct option of: “I have a username and password”.

Backup Server Username and Password

Enter the username and password you chose during the registration of your Arkay Remote Data Backup account on our website.

Connection to the Backup Server

For users with high-speed Internet network connections, choose “Connect using my existing network connection”. For most users, “I am not behind a firewall or proxy” is the correct option to choose.

Test Connection to the Backup Server

Click the “Test Connection” button to verify that all settings are correct. If a connection cannot be established, use the “Back” button to modify the connection options.

Name Your Backup Set

This screen helps you configure your first backup set. You can choose the default name provided, or choose your own name.

Schedule Your Backup Set(s)

Press the “Create a backup schedule now!” to create a schedule for your backup set to use. A schedule is not mandatory, but your backups will not run in an automated manor without a schedule.

Choose the backup set(s) you’d like to have run on this schedule. Place a check mark in the box to activate the backup set.

Select When Your Backup Will Run

Choose the frequency you would like your scheduled backup to run. The scheduling options are robust and allow for a vast array of scheduling possibilities.

Choose Shutdown/Logoff Options

The optional Shutdown/Logoff options allow you to set your computer to logoff or shutdown once your backups are complete.

5. Select the Files/Folders you want to backup

Choose all the files and folders you would like to include in your backup set by clicking in the checkboxes

6. Perform your first backup

A backup can be started in any of the following ways:

a) Wait for your scheduled backup to begin

If you have a scheduled backup configured, hovering your mouse over the Arkay Remote Data Backup icon in the tray control will display the amount of time remaining before the next backup begins.

b) From Arkay Remote Data Backup Choose Your Backup Set

If you have created more than one backup set, choose the backup set you would like to backup.

Click on the “Backup Set” button located directly below the Backup, Restore, and Logs tabs.

Click on the backup set you wish to backup.

Start Your Backup

Click on the “Backup Now” button in the Arkay Remote Data Backup application.

c) From The Arkay Remote Data Backup System Tray Icon

Right click on the Arkay Remote Data Backup tray icon and choose your preferred backup option.

d) From The Command Line

At the DOS prompt, or in the Windows Run dialog box, specify the Backup.exe program command. Options are listed in Appendix A at the bottom of this Quick Start Guide.

7. Verify Your Backups In The Log File

Click on the Logs tab in Arkay Remote Data Backup. Click on the log file associated with the backup you would like to check. Each log contains detailed and

summarized information about the backup session.

8. Backup Complete!

Arkay Remote Data Backup is now automatically protecting your digital assets.

Appendix A – Arkay Remote Data Backup Command Line Options Backup

Option

Description

- b BACKUP - This option will immediately start a backup and close the application when the backup

has completed. The backup will execute in a timed backup mode, which means that there will be no dialogs displayed indicating the result of the backup.

- bi BACKUP INTERACTIVE - This option will immediately start a backup and close the application

when the backup has completed. The backup will execute in an interactive backup mode, which means that there will be dialogs displayed indicating the result of the backup. This backup method should be used if it is possible to answer any dialogs that the Backup Client application might display.

- bl BACKUP and LOGOFF - This option will immediately start a backup and attempt to have all other

running applications save their data. After all applications have responded to the save request, a backup will be performed. Once the backup has completed, the system logoff will take place. This option is also available by right-clicking on the tray control and selecting "Backup and Logoff".

- be BACKUP and EXIT - This option will immediately start a backup and attempt to have all other

running applications save their data. After all applications have responded to the save request, a backup will be performed. Once that backup has completed, the system shutdown will take place. This option is also available by right-clicking on the tray control and selecting "Backup and Shutdown".

- br BACKUP and RESTART - This option will immediately start a backup and attempt to have all

other running applications save their data. After all applications have responded to the save request, a backup will be performed. Once that backup has completed, a system reboot will take place. This option is also available by right-clicking on the tray control and selecting "Backup and Restart".

- bs or –s This option can be used to specify backup sets that will be backed up. The full name of the backup set (including spaces) must be specified and this option can be used more than one time on the command line.

Ex: -bs My Backup Set -bs Other Backup Set

- f This option can be used to allow a "full backup" to be performed for the backup sets specified on the command line.

- i or a This option can be used to allow an "auto-detect backup" to be performed for the backup sets specified on the command line. This is the default behavior.
