Please read the following guidelines for organizing your portfolio then complete the inventory list on question number 4.

Guidelines for Portfolios: Your portfolio should contain ONLY your 5 strongest pieces that fit the following 5 categories

*

:

A. Observation—Shows ability to communicate visually what is seen.

B. Creativity & Imagination—Shows originality, personality, and/or style.

C. Challenge &/or Experimentation—Shows risk taking and growth beyond comfort zone.

D. Strong Technical Skills—Shows control of technique and/or media.

E. Personal Choice—Anything that best represents the artist.

Tips and suggestions:

 Please LABEL your NAME on your portfolio and all art pieces.

 Art can be any medium, technique or appropriate subject matter. In fact it is good to present a variety of pieces versus all the same.

 It is not necessary to mat pieces, but please don’t fold them either.

 All works must be original, not copies from another source.

 Artwork may be photographed, if 3D or too large to fit in portfolio. Include a photograph of the entire work (2 from different angles if 3D) and also include a detail, or close up, of the work. On one sheet of paper, per project, please mount all the images to be viewed simultaneously.

 Additional work: If you’d like to show more than the required 5 pieces (please DO NOT BRING THEM) you may photograph them and print multiple projects to a page and leave in the back of the portfolio.

4. Give an inventory of your portfolio and a short description of each piece.

Background Information: This program is not limited to full IB diploma students, but interested artists can receive a certificate in IB

art only. While sketchbooks are an integral element of the IB art program, the majority of the class is portfolio production based; it is

not a textbook class. IB Art, like AP Art, focuses on building a portfolio of works; the difference between the two is that IB is not limited

to 2D, 3D or Drawing, and instead of sending slides off for evaluation IB students have an art show where they are interviewed by an

outside evaluator. If interested in learning more about the program feel free to contact Jessica Thompson (
