Logo proportions and colors
PMS 640 is the color used for the blocks. It is used at a 30% tint, 60% tint and 100% (left to right).
This is our corporate logo and accompanying company description. The logo must always appear with the product description in the manner and scale shown. As for design context, the blocks above “VCE” represent the three primary parent companies: Cisco, EMC and VMware. Together, they build a new pathway to the private cloud, which is the promise of VCE.

2 | LOGO
Be sure that no text or imagery obstructs the logo. Always maintain an area of clear space to give the logo maximum visibility.
In most cases, the logo will appear 1.75" wide. In some instances, the logo can appear larger (for example, on cover pages, PowerPoint slide covers). That size is 2.5" wide.
Do not make the logo smaller than 1.5"; otherwise, the company descriptor will not be legible.

2 | PARENT LOGO USAGE
In most cases, the Cisco, EMC and VMware logos will appear with the VCE logo. They must endorse and support the VCE logo, appearing smaller and in a different area than the VCE logo. Do not treat the parent logos as a lockup or put directly below the VCE logo. They appear in black or white only, and always evenly spaced, in this order:
Special note: The previous-generation EMC logo with the “where information lives” tagline should no longer be used
Scale
To determine what size to make the parent logos, use VCE logo’s proportions. Parent logos should align with the top and bottom of the descriptor text as specified below. Do not make the parent logos any larger than this.
Top of Cisco logo with top of descriptor text

2 | PARENT LOGO USAGE
SOLUTION PARTNER | Logo and Design Guidelines
PARTNER LOGO
2 | PARTNER LOGO
Partner logos should have equal weight to the VCE logo—never larger. Use the VCE logo proportions to help size the partner logo. For more vertical partner logos, use the height of the VCE logo to size. For more horizontal logos, use the length. Always align the logos center.
Special instances
In cases where neither proportion works (for example, on a very vertical partner logo), use good judgment and size the logo to look visually the same weight as the VCE logo, and align center. This approach should be used only if the partner logo’s size is substantially larger or smaller than the VCE logo. If you should have questions, contact VCE.

SOLUTION PARTNER | Logo and Design Guidelines The term Vblock is a trademarked term in the United States and other jurisdictions. The Vblock trademark
should always be used as an adjective with an approved descriptor (i.e. Infrastructure Platforms or Design and Implementation Services) or with a generic descriptor after its first use in a document with an approved descriptor. It should never be used as a noun or a verb or in the plural or possessive forms. This applies to all uses of the trademark in all forms of documents (PowerPoint, Word, etc).
The Vblock trademark should be used with the phrase “Infrastructure Platforms” in the following form:
Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms. The “TM” symbol must be used for any reference to Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms in the title of the document and in the first instance in the body of the document. It is not necessary to use the “TM” symbol thereafter.
Only use the “Vblock” trademark with a generic term to refer to Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms after the full use of the term Vblock™ Infrastructure Platforms in the document. The shortened term should always be used as an adjective and followed by a generic descriptor such as “Vblock platform”, “Vblock offer,” “Vblock solu- tion,” or “Vblock system”. The first subsequent use of the Vblock trademark with a generic descriptor should use the “TM” symbol. It is not necessary to use the “TM” symbol thereafter. Never use the term “Vblock” to refer in a specific sense to Vblock 0, Vblock 1, Vblock 1/U, Vblock Series 300, or Vblock Series 700.
Note:
• Always use the plural form, Vblock Infrastructure Platforms
• Never use the singular form, Vblock Infrastructure Platform

When there is a need to differentiate between different types of Vblock Infrastructure Platforms (for example,
“Vblock 1 that has the Cisco UCS B-Series” or “Vblock 1 that has the EMC CLARiiON CX4) in a document such as a reference architecture or bill of materials (BOM), apply the following naming convention. List all of the components out following the coalition order and include “enabled by.”
Example1:
Vblock 1 enabled by Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) B-Series, EMC CLARiiON CX4, and VMware vSphere 4
Example 2:
Vblock 0 enabled by Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) C-Series, EMC Celerra Unified Storage, and VMware vSphere 4
Note that the order in which components are listed follows the coalition order (Cisco, EMC, and VMware).
This naming convention will only be applied to technical documents such as BOMs, Deployment Guides, and Reference Architectures.

3 | COLORS
Primary colors
The blues are the main branding colors. The dark gray and warm grays are neutrals and convey a balanced, dependable technology-driven company. Use the yellow sparingly, more as an accent color.
Black should not be used as a background color, as it interferes with the black square logo. Use PMS 432 for a dark background color, unless absolutely necessary (and in that case, be sure to use the logo formatted for black backgrounds). Using tints is acceptable.

Secondary/accent colors
PMS 193 PMS 164 PMS 570 The VCE brand is still emerging in the marketplace. Therefore, it is vital to use color in the correct proportions so as not to create confusion about the brand. Many of VCE’s initial materials use only the primary colors, plus yellow as an accent, so introducing the other secondary colors should be a gradual process.
On any piece, only use 1 accent color + any amount of colors or tints from the primary palette.
For judging the amount of an accent color to use, a good rule to follow is the “80/20 rule” – 80% of the color on the page should be the primary blues or grays, and 20% can be the accent color. When in doubt, use less color rather than overdo it.
Using tints of the secondary colors is acceptable.

SOLUTION PARTNER | Logo and Design Guidelines Designed materials use the font family Gotham. A modern sans serif, Gotham has an honest tone that’s assertive
but never imposing, friendly but never folksy, confident but never aloof. Its variety of weights allows for hierarchy and clarity in every piece.
Font sizes
On most pieces, body copy will be 8.5 pt, with 13-pt leading. This size ensures good legibility without overcrowding the page. Headlines are set in ALL CAPS, about 25-pt size, and are generally Gotham Bold. Use PMS 432 gray for headlines and PMS 640 for subheads.

Sample text using Arial
SOLUTION PARTNER | Logo and Design Guidelines Keeping with the existing theme of “building blocks to the cloud” and the square logo, we are using square
blocks to add movement, color and a sense of modern technology (pixels).
The scale, arrangement and placement on the page will vary from document to document, to distinguish each and to give each its own look and feel (while maintaining unity). On text-heavy pieces, they must be very small and not overlapping any text.
Use a grid to help build these blocks. Have them align with text or other elements.
The blocks should never overpower the logo or any other elements on the page. Use them to add a hint of visual interest, not to dominate the design. When in doubt, make them smaller.
In each cluster, there is only one yellow block, which helps keep it as an accent and not a primary color.

TEMPLATES

partner communications. It is important
to use these according to the guidelines
to maintain visual unity.

6 | TEMPLATES
How to use
It is important to the VCE brand that all partner collateral materials look consistent. Word templates have been created to help maintain this identity. The Microsoft Word files are ready to use and includes color swatches and all necessary style sheets. Adhere to the style sheets and colors provided. Do not modify the template or create a new one—always start any new document with one of the templates.
Font usage
Font colors, sizes, and usage are outlined in the style sheets. Only use the font Arial Regular and Arial Bold, as specified in the style sheets. Do not change the color, size, or style of the fonts. Do not use other fonts.
Header/footer images
Background images have been placed in the document’s header/footer area. The different designs are used to identify each type of document (technical paper, case study, etc.). The first or cover page header image is always different than the subsequent page images. Do not change the order of the pages, or modify the background images in any way.
Boilerplate
Use the “About VCE” boilerplate at the end of each document. It may be placed at the bottom of the page, before the partner copyright, or it may be placed in the side column, depending on the type of document. Do not place it anywhere else.
Partner copyright
Partner copyright information should be placed on the last page of the document, below the three gray squares. Keep the squares above to separate it from the boilerplate information.
