Training Module Access

The Learning Management System (LMS) used by the State of Nevada for delivering online courses is Canvas at https://nvwic.instructure.com **Recommend using Chrome as it functions best, but will work with Explorer too.

Training Site Navigation: Canvas

All WIC Staff members are enrolled into courses based on the job title(s). This allows them access to exact courses they need to complete their required job training. On date of hire, each new employee will be registered into the required courses and the policy mandated completion time logged at state office. Each WIC staff member will only see the specific job course as well as any state provided annual training (i.e.) Civil Rights.

 Dashboard – This is the opening landing page that you will always come to after your first log-in and having accepted all assigned courses.

- Each employee from Director on down with see the Civil Rights Training Module for current Federal Fiscal Year (Oct 1st – Sept. 30th)

- The other courses each WIC Staff member will see will be based on their highest current job level/title (i.e.) someone who works as a CPA and a Peer Counselor will only see the CPA Training course as it’s inclusive of Peer Training modules. A staff member who is not a CPA will only see those specific to their job title(s).

- At bottom of each colored course box are some quick navigation tabs which may include: Announcements, Assignments, and Discussions.  Courses – This side navigation can help you easily switch between courses

when you’re inside one course and wish to move to another. Less steps/clicks this way.

 Calendar – This is a very helpful resource. After accepting all your assigned courses, you will then be able to see any assignments that have due dates in main your main calendar (calendar option with your name on right side

navigation).

- You can also switch between course specific calendars by selecting desired course in the right hand calendar navigation options. - You can also add your own events in calendar.

 Inbox – This is an option that can be utilized within each course with other enrolled staff, but highly recommend utilizing regular work email to

communicate as there is a memory limit within Canvas that we cannot exceed.  Account – This is where you can go to set up a profile, and edit your settings

and notifications. Files is where document or picture you upload to Canvas is stored. ePortfolios is a functionality of Canvas that’s kind of like Linkedin.  This is a multifunctional help button that covers the following:

- Ask Your Instructor a Question: Questions are submitted to your instructor

- Search the Canvas Guides: Find answers to common questions; both written and video online as well as downloadable PDF Manuals. - Report a Problem: If Canvas misbehaves, tell them about it.

- Submit a Feature Idea: Canvas is always looking to improve, so if you have an idea to improve Canvas, turn it in.

Individual Course Navigation

Each course will be a little bit different as to the sequence and availability of course navigation tabs. This will also be located to the left of your screen. The primary course navigation options will be on left, and if you look to right, you’ll see some informative calendar alters and course feedback. You can also use this to jump out to your course specific calendar.

Left Side Course Navigation

 Home – This is your landing page for course you selected. As you participate, the Recent Activity field (center) will start to populate.

 Announcements – Any posted course specific announcements will show up here. You can opt to have these pushed out to an alternative email or as texts.

 Assignments – This is a quick reference area for all required course specific assignments. These will also show up in calendar and syllabus section.  Modules – This is where you need to go to find the course materials. This

will include lessons, handouts, and links to quizzes.

- Lessons: Currently these are Power Points. They will load as an embedded document, but will not have full functionality. They will be readable and links should work, but animation features and videos will not work. In order to have full lesson functionality, please select options to download, and then open on PC, tablet, laptop, or mobile. As long as you have Microsoft Office loaded to your device, you should then be able to play videos, and participate in lesson activities.

- Handouts: You’ll have to manually open and/or print these for use with lesson. Cannot currently link to them from with the power point lesson. (this feature will come later)

- Quizzes: You will not be able to take quiz until the lesson has been completed and checklists opened and printed. Quizzes can be accessed through several means. You can link from following navigation locations:  Assignments  Modules  Quizzes  Syllabus  Calendar

- Each course lesson module has to be completed with a passing quiz grade before the next lesson can be accessed.

- All quizzes are open notes/ open book, so students can reference any of their course materials and notes. (Recommend printed because

once you’ve started the quiz, if you navigate exit out or navigate away from quiz, it’ll close and you’ll end up with loss of one

(11)

- Please remember that each quiz is an individual endeavor and for the integrity of each staff members training, you should not receive any outside (other staff member) help other than pre-test study group if more than one staff member is taking same course.

 Quizzes – This is where you can see and access all quizzes for your

assigned course. Remember that modules in each course are sequential, so for courses with more than one module, each previous module must be completed and quiz passed to unlock the next one.

 Syllabus – This is where all course assignments and quizzes can be located. For the MIECN course, the actual course PDF syllabus will be located in Modules section.

 Grades – This will show you all your completed graded assignments / quizzes for each course. Gradebooks can be printed (see print tab at top right of grade book) and given to supervisor as proof of completion.

 Chat – This is an open chat room for all those enrolled in course. Please be advised that all posts will be viewable to all staff as well as state office; so feel free to use, but remember to keep professional and respectful.
