This song is a ballad - the lyrics tell a story. At the beginning of the song, the singer is depressed by the melancholy 'blue' moon. But wh en he meets his love, he sees the moon's true golden colour for the first time.

Rhapsody in Blue was Gershwin's 'jazz concerto' as the newspapers of the time

dubbed it. At its first performance the composer himself played the piano. It was an

instant success, and remains one of the best-known pieces of American music.
