Saturday, July 13 (9am - 3pm) in the parish center Becoming a More Intentional Disciple

The retreat will be presented by Fr. Kevin on the topic of Intentional Discipleship and what that means for each of us, both as individuals and as ministers in service to others.

A focus for individuals will be on interiorizing our personal decision to follow Christ. A focus for the collective group will be to examine discipleship within our daily lives, with time to meet in small groups to discuss our response to discipleship.

This retreat will be similar to Fr. Kevin's previous discipleship retreats; however, it will also incorporate some new discussions and reflections. All parishioners are invited to attend.

Lunch will be provided; please RSVP to Cathy at the church office by Monday, July 8 (247-0044 ext. 10).

St. Columba Book Club is meeting on Monday, June 17 (5pm in the parish center). The book being discussed is Educated by Tara Westover.

"Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, she prepared for the end of the world by stockpiling home- canned peaches and sleeping with her "head-for-the-hills bag." The family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara's older brothers became violent. As a way out, Tara began to educate herself, learning enough mathematics and

grammar to be admitted to Brigham Young University. Her quest for knowledge would transform her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to

Cambridge. Only then would she wonder if she'd traveled too far, if there was still a way home. With the acute insight that distinguishes all great writers, Tara Westover has crafted a universal coming-of-age story that gets to the heart of what an education offers.”—an excerpt from a Random House Publishers review

The jail ministry is being expanded from Wednesday afternoons to add Sundays from 12:30 to 3pm, starting in June. We are looking for an additional 8-10 volunteers to staff this Sunday Word and Communion service.

Each week two volunteers share Bible readings and Communion with inmates. Men and women volunteers are needed, time commitment is usually once a month.
