Faith Statements Confirmands
Rite of Confirmation Presentation
Dan Swan, Joan Snyder and Jonathan Maier: We present Linda Adibonou, Max Borgmeier,
Liam Dustan, Gabe Halvorson, Nora LeBlanc, Louisa Lungershausen and Madison Reed,
who desire to make public affirmation of their baptism.
Pr. Beth: Let us pray. Merciful God, we thank you for these siblings, whom you have made your own by water and the Word in baptism. You have called them to yourself, enlightened them with the gifts of your Spirit, and nourished them in the community of faith. Uphold your servants in the gifts and promises of baptism and unite the hearts of all whom you have brought to new birth. We ask this in the name of Christ. Amen.
Profession of Faith
Pr. Patti: I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church.
• Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God? Confirmands: I renounce them.
• Do you renounce the powers of this world that rebel against God? Confirmands: I renounce them.
• Do you renounce the ways of sin that draw you from God? Confirmands: I renounce them.
Pr. Patti: Do you believe in God the Father?
All: I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
Pr. Patti: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
All: I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Pr. Patti: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
All: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Affirmation in the Presence of the Assembly
Pr. Beth: You have made public profession of your faith. Do you intend to continue in the relationship God established with you in holy baptism:
• To live among God’s faithful people
• To hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
• To proclaim the good news of God in Christ through your words and actions, • To serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
• And to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?
Each confirmand individually: I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.
Pr. Beth: People of God, do you promise to support these siblings and pray for them in their life in Christ?
All: We do, and we ask God to help and guide us.
Pr. Patti: Let us pray. We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you give us new birth, cleanse us from sin, and raise us to eternal life.

Keep us steadfast in this faith, defend us in all adversity, and bring us at last into your presence, where you live in endless joy and love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
The Word
Gathering Hymn: “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!” Red Book no. 413
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee. Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert and art, and evermore shalt be.
First Reading: Isaiah 6:1-8 Barbara Roady, reader
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. 2 Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with
two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. 3 And
one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.”
4 The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with
smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people
of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”
6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with
a pair of tongs. 7 The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: “Now that this has touched your
lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out.” 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”
Second Reading: Romans 8:12-17 Alice Mills, reader
12 So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh — 13for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 For you
did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are
children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ—if, in fact,
we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.
Word of God, Word of Life. Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation: Tom Lynham, Jim and Deb Steele “There is a Redeemer” by Melody Green-Sievright
“Thank you, O our Father for giving us Your Son, and leaving Your Spirit
till the work on earth is done.”
Gospel: John 3:1-17 Pastor Beth Brashear
Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. 2 He came to Jesus by night
and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Very truly, I
to him, “How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the
kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. 6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and
what is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be astonished that I said to you, ‘You must be born from
above.’ 8 The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know
where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9 Nicodemus
said to him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you a teacher of Israel, and
yet you do not understand these things?
11 “Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do
not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how
can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except the
one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. 14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in
the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have
eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him
may not perish but may have eternal life.
17 “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the
world might be saved through him.
The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ!
Homily Pastor Beth Brashear
Anthem: “One Voice” by Ruth Moody Modern Worship Team Kendall Cunningham-Parmeter, Tom and Lisa Lynham, Jim and Deb Steele, Lee Welch, Molly Wheeler
“This is the sound of one voice. One spirit, one voice. The sound of one who makes a choice. This is the sound of one voice. This is the sound of voices two. The sound of me singing with you.
Helping each other to make it through. This is the sound of voices two.
This is the sound of voices three. Singing together in harmony. Surrendering to the mystery. This is the sound of voices three. This is the sound of all of us singing with love and the will to trust.
Leave the rest behind, it’ll turn to dust. This is the sound of all of us.
This is the sound of one voice. One people, one voice. A song for every one of us. This is the sound of one voice.”
Prayers of the Church Prayer Leader: Dan Swan
Holy Communion
Great Thanksgiving The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
Reveal yourself to us in the breaking of the bread. Raise us up as the body of Christ for the world.
Breathe new life into us. Send us forth, burning with justice, peace, and love.
Come, Holy Spirit.
Lord’s Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive
those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
Invitation to Communion
Musical Reflection: “Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness” Red Book no. 396
“Spirit, Spirit of gentleness, blow through the wilderness calling and free; Spirit, spirit of restlessness, stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea.
You moved on the waters, you called to the deep, then you coaxed up the mountains from the valleys of sleep; and over the eons you called to each thing: ‘Awake from your slumbers and rise on your wings. (Chorus)
You swept through the desert, you stung with the sand, and you goaded your people with a law and a land; and when they were blinded with idols and lies, then you spoke through your prophets to open their eyes. (Chorus)
You sang in a stable, you cried from a hill, then you whispered in silence when the whole world was still; and down in the city you called once again, when you blew through your people on the rush of the wind. (Chorus)
You call from tomorrow, you break ancient schemes. From the bondage of sorrow all the captives dream dreams; our women see visions, our men clear their eyes. With bold new decisions your people arise. (Chorus)
Post Communion Prayer
Let us pray. Life-giving God, in the mystery of Christ’s resurrection you send light to conquer darkness, water to give new life, and the bread of life to nourish your people. Send us forth as witnesses to your Son’s resurrection, that we may show your glory to all the world, through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord. Amen.

Sending Song: “Come Join the Dance of Trinity” Red Book no. 412
Come, join the dance of Trinity, before all worlds begun the interweaving of the Three, the Father, Spirit, Son. The universe of space and time did not arise by chance, but as the Three, in
love and hope, made room within their dance.
Come, see the face of Trinity, newborn in Bethlehem; then bloodied by a crown of thorns outside Jerusalem. The dance of Trinity is meant for human flesh and bone; when fear confines the
dance in death, God rolls away the stone.
Come, speak aloud the Trinity, as wind and tongues of flame set people free at Pentecost to tell the Savior’s name. We know the yoke of sin and death; our necks have worn it smooth; go tell
the world of weight and woe that we are free to move!
Within the dance of Trinity, before all worlds begun, we sing the praises of the Three, the Father, Spirit, Son. Let voices rise and interweave, by love and hope set free, to shape in song this joy,
this life: the dance of Trinity.
