Focus Analyzer Data Views

The heart of data presentation are the various Views that Focus Analyzer provides.

This article describes these Views, how they are used and appear in the application, and the key benefits.

Views Provide Windows into the Data

Views are the data presentation options provided in the application. Building and accessing these presentations is facilitated by toolbar buttons, right click context menus, and drag-n-drop functionality. Customization allows engineers to create the layout of views they require, save the views for reloading and applying to multiple datasets, save configuration settings, and share settings with teams.

Views are shown for both statistical information as well as time-sequence presentations. While viewing multiple time-sequence views, the views can be synchronized so that clicking on a message will cause the other views to focus on that same time frame. Legends and colors can be set as desired. Options are provided to save views as image files, for example to use in a report or other external document. Focus Analyzer provides a rich set of views and options to analyze network data and deep dive into the data for troubleshooting issues and determining root cause of network events and anomalies.

Let us consider how to open map and a table views. A couple options are provided for building this layout. Right click on a specific measure provides a context menu to choose the map and table views and send the data directly to that view.

Alternatively, use the tool bar buttons to open the Map and Table view windows. Drag-n-drop the measures that you want to see in that view.

The layout of the views can be shown as an overlapped tab view, horizontal and vertical tab groups, dragged to the position you desire, or even be undocked and floating above other windows. The layout can be saved as a View Profile to be applied later. Some common views profiles are provided by default with the application.

The example at the left shows multiple views in different docked windows.

The remainder of this article lists the spectrum of views that are available in the Focus Analyzer application.

Time-Sequence Views

Map View: Show one or many maps. Multiple measures within one map will show the data slightly offset for easy viewing. Data view can be based on drive route or the data can be binned into geographic areas.

Common mapping options are provided such as Google Maps, Bing Maps, Open Street, and ArcGIS maps.

Message View: View messages within all the frames in the data. Messages are fully decoded to show content. Many options are provided for filtering, searching, marking, and coloring messages and frames to aid in analysis of data.

Time Series Chart: Data shown over time, with many options for the types of charts such as column, area, line, and points.

Point Detail: Provides a view of the data point that is selected. For example, click on a data point on a map or in a table view, and the Point Details shows additional data about that data point, including which file/device is represented, metric parameters, and so on.

Table View: View measures in a table view. As with other views such as maps and time series, multiple measures can be shown in the same table.

Instant Chart: A quick and convenient view for creating simple charts while clicking on data points in a time- sequence view. Choose an Instant Chart metric, and then view results of metric for any point of data in the views.

Indoor Map with blueprint Map Rectifier: Use the map rectifier to take any blueprint or building images and associated them with locations on a map via simple drag-n-drop of pins. Once rectified, the images will appear in your list of GIS elements to be added to a map view.

For the time-sequence views, the tool bar buttons for Playback and Synchronize Views are available to allow replaying of data and synching views to same time, respectively.

Statistical Views

File/Device Explorer: List of files by device and file, customizable to organize by any attribute, while displaying events and statistics for the listed device within the dataset.

Cell Coverage: View statistics and measures based on selection of specific cells in list. Data is shown for the selected cells, to focus on specific sites and statistics.

Aggregation Chart: Combine data together into one chart, with a long list of types of charts such as bar, radar lines, funnels, and donuts. Calculate trends based on historical data.

Pivot View: Slice-n-dice data freely with multiple dimensions and measures. Load data from pre-processed OLAP cubes or on-the-fly processing. Drill down into the data.

Focus View: Allows you to create report templates which can be applied to a dataset and display in a side window within the application, and hyperlinks to jump to View Profiles. Think of it as a custom view that you can create with any elements you need to focus on the analysis of data.

Correlation View with Heat Map: With this view, select two measures and then the data will be correlated to show relationships of the data, i.e. how values of one measure compare to values of the other measure across time.

Report View: The Report view is the window that is used to generate and display reports within Focus Analyzer. Reports are built in the Report Builder, and are fully customizable to include tables, maps, text, logos, statistics, and many other components of data. Output may be in Excel, PDF, or HTML.

Dashboard: An enterprise ready BI solution, allowing you to create fully interactive dashboards for viewing in the Focus Windows application, Focus web, or mobile device. Extensive data presentation with pivot tables, grids, gauges, pie charts, filter elements, and other controls.
