PROJECT: BASIC COMPUTER LITERACY PROGRAM FOR TEACHERS (BCLPT) I. TITLE : BASIC COMPUTER LITERACY PROGRAM FOR

TEACHERS

II. DESCRIPTION :

Basic Computer Literacy Program for Teachers (BCLPT) is an approach to equip the teachers of Atisan Elementary School with the basic skills in data encoding , manipulatio n and application of computer programs and softwares in implementing computer-assisted instruction across all subjects (English, Mathematics, Science and Health, Filipino and MAKABAYAN).

LEAD IMPLEMENTER : Mr. MELVIN A. ALMARIO Elem ent ary School Principal I

III. RATIONALE:

The g uidelines for the effective implem entation of elementary curriculum in the Philip p ines clearly stated that the use of Information and Communication Technology in instructio n will help develop learners to be empowered in a rapid changing world (Dep Ed , 2009). This directive of the department mandated all the public elementary scho o ls in the country to use learning equipments and materials which includes computer p ro grams that are educational, interactive and experiential.

Stud ies showed that the use of computers and educational softwares in teaching has a sig nificant impact in pupils’ learning outcomes (Fritz, 2009). Pupils were highly mo tivated and focused in any lesson which involves manipulation of computers and teachers act as facilitators of learning rather than talking all throughout the lesson. THE SITUATION

Currently, 2 out of 7 teachers o f the Atisan Elementary School have background in basic data encoding and computer operation. Of the 4 intermediate teachers who hand le Grad es IV-VI classes, 2 do not have any background on computer operations.
