A M ESSAGE FROM O UR P ASTOR

Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,

Happy Memorial Day weekend. Congratulations to all of our graduates!

We have a lot of movement going on these days.

On June 16, Father Andrew will move to St. Thomas the Apostle in Crystal Lake and we will have Father Ariel Valencia move in here. I decided about 6 months ago that we need a priest that can take primary responsibil- ity of our Spanish-speaking community. I love Father Andrew and appreciate what he has done for us to keep us from falling off the bridge, but we really need a Spanish-speaker to handle sickness and be present for the struggles of life. Father Ariel is a Filipino who has done Spanish-speaking ministry in Carpentersville and was asking to get more into that ministry. We are grate- ful for his interest and he is excited to come here.

Father Andrew has told him how good life is here.

Tomorrow Seminarian Bailey Peterson will spend June and July with us. Bailey is from St. Bridget in Loves Park and has completed three years of college seminary at St. Paul, Minnesota. Aaron has given him all the 411 on Holy Apostles and living with this old man. Welcome Bailey!

A week ago, Deacon Mark Kinnare scooted out the door on us to move to Golden, Colorado, where his and Lauren’s two sons and grandson live. We want to thank Mark for all he did for us. I know the residents of The Fountains will especially miss him. I wish we had more warning, so we could have a proper sendoff, but I think he wanted to avoid that.

Next weekend Deacon Aaron Downing will become Father Aaron Downing. His Mass of Thanksgiving will be here Sunday, June 6, at 2 PM. All are welcome and we will livestream the Mass. He is very excited and this will be Holy Apostles parish’s first Mass of Thanks- giving for a newly ordained priest, one of Fr. Sherry’s dreams. He will be here to join us in celebration.

Have a Blessed Week! Father Paul P.S. I will be leading a long-delayed trip to Europe, the highlight of which is attending the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany. The dates of the trip are September 20

How to Register for Mass

1. On our parish website tcoha.org, click on Mass & Events and select your desired mass. A confirmation of your registration will be sent to you.

2. Download the Church Center app. Set up a log-in and then register every member of your family. Then click on Events and select the mass you want to attend. You will receive a confirmation of your registration.

3. Call the Parish Office at 815-385-5673.

If capacity has not yet been reached, you may register for mass or cancel your registration up to an hour before mass.

Offer Prayers through Mass Intentions

Pray for the soul of a deceased loved one, for the healing of one who is ill or other need by making them the intention of one of our Masses each week by calling the Parish Office at 815-385-5673 or on tcoha.org (click on Virtual Office, then Mass Intention). The customary donation is $10 per Mass intention. To ensure a special date for a mass, please make requests well in advance. Mass intentions made for a date in the coming week will not appear in the bulletin.

Your Gifts Help Those Who Struggle

A local single woman fell behind on her ComEd bill after being laid off from her job last fall. After months of being unable to pay her bill, she received a shut-off notice. In a conversation with Vincentians, she shared that she rarely has enough food each week. The St.

Vincent de Paul Society paid the overdue amount to ComEd, delivered bags of food and shared local resources that may assist her with meals. This month, SVdPS appreciates donations of soap or body wash.

"Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor." Proverbs 22:9

We Help Feed Our Neighbors in Need

Food will continue to be distributed every Wednesday from 5 to 6 PM at Holy Apostles outside Sherry Center, on a first-come, first-served basis until all food is dis- tributed. This is a drive-up event to offer safe distanc- ing and food is pre-packed in boxes and placed in cars by volunteers. Anyone who is struggling to keep food on the table is welcome to come and receive food.

Mission “Trip” Sign-Up Deadline

Everyone is invited to join this year’s Mission “Trip”

serving our own community from June 21 through 25.

Youth Ministry is offering an opportunity for our entire church family to love and serve our community together.

Adult volunteers are also needed to make this an incredi- ble experience for our youth!

Our goal is to provide worthwhile projects to help people and organizations in the McHenry area while giving our youth an experience very much like it would be if you were away on a mission trip (but using your own personal showers and sleeping in your bed each night). This will include daily mass, meals and programs (which is a combination of music, fun and faith) on Monday through Thursday of that week. A fun event is planned for Friday for the team to bond and enjoy each others company.

Youth should be prepared to immerse themselves into the experience by being present each day for each event.

We will meet in the morning at 7 AM, attend 7:30 AM Mass and be done after dinner Monday through Friday.

Registration will be open through May 31 at tcoha.org under Mass & Events.

“En el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo”...

Con mucha frecuencia, nuestras ideas sobre la Santísima Trinidad tienden a centrarse en la pregunta de la lógica:

¿Cómo puede ser posible que haya un Dios en tres Personas?

La analogía que hizo san Patri- cio del trébol con sus tres hojas puede ayudarte a comprender.

Aunque ninguna ilustración puede explicar la complejidad, la profundidad y la belleza de nuestro Dios.

Más que un misterio matemático por resolver, la Trinidad es un misterio espiritual de fe. Es Dios revelán- dose a sí mismo a nosotros y convenciéndonos de su amor y cuidado por nosotros.

Padre. Al revelarse como nuestro Padre celestial, Dios probó que él no es un Dios distante, caprichoso o rencor- oso. Más bien es un Dios cuya familia lo es todo. Al igual que un padre, él quiere estar cerca de ti. El Señor te promete cuidarte y protegerte y solo quiere el bien para ti.

¡Ha llegado tan lejos como para nombrarte su heredero!

Hijo. Cuando Dios vino a la tierra, no lo hizo en poder y majestad. Más bien, “renunció a lo que era suyo” y se hizo uno de nosotros (Filipenses 2, 7). Muchos esperaban un Mesías que llevaría a Israel a la victoria militar y a la independencia política. Pero Jesús vino como un hermano y amigo y estableció su Reino no por la fuerza, sino por medio del amor de sacrificio. Su mensaje de misericor- dia tiene el objetivo de transformar nuestro corazón, no de generarnos ningún temor.

Espíritu Santo. Dios no desapareció cuando Jesús as- cendió al cielo, al contrario, se acercó todavía más. ¡Dios habita en tu corazón! El Espíritu Santo siempre está conti- go, siempre listo a derramar su amor y hacer que te ase- mejes más a él. El Espíritu siempre está con la Iglesia, alimentándonos con la Palabra y los sacramentos. Siem- pre está en el mundo, conformándonos en una sola famil- ia en Cristo. Este es el verdadero misterio de la Trinidad:

que nuestro Dios Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo nos ama profundamente y nos trata con gran ternura y misericor- dia. “Dios Santo, ¡alabo tu nombre! ¡Señor de todo, me postro delante de ti!”.
