UPCOMING 2ND COLLECTION
June 19/20– Diocesan Priest Retirement Fund
Like most organizations, the Diocese has a retirement fund for the Priests of our diocese. Currently there are 22 retired diocesan priests who combine for over 800 years of service. Each year, all diocesan parishes are billed a percentage of their offertory to support this fund. Our bill this year is $28,560.00 This is the final of four collections to cover this bill. To date we have collected $8,872.51. What is not collected through these special 2nd collections is taken from our operating budget. Your generous donations help us to meet our commitment to honor those who faithfully served our families here in our communities. Thank you for your support!
Capital Expense Fund:
$4,278.96 (cumulative number) Capital Expenses
As our buildings continue to age, repairs and replacement of equipment are inevita- ble. In 2020, we replaced doors in the par- ish hall, the HVAC in the church, and had repairs made to the parking lot (totaling
$75,382.00). This summer, we have to
replace the gas lines that feed the parish
hall ($18,400). While we are blessed to have
money in savings to offset these costs, we
ask that you consider donating to the
Capital Expense Fund so that we may work
to build our savings back up for future
expenses. Donate online, use the special
envelope in your packet, or drop in offerto-
ry basket (please make clear that it is for
the Capital Expense Fund. THANK YOU!

June 14
Always walk in the presence of God, because His shade is healthier than the rays of the sun. There is nothing wrong in trembling before the face of Him whose very presence makes the angels tremble as they contem- plate the Supreme Majesty. This is on the condition, however, that love predominates in all your actions as the principle and goal of your motivation.
June 15
The virtue of fortitude and moral strength is never ac- quired in time of peace, when we are not tested by the contrary temptation. Some people are very meek when they do not have to suffer any contradiction, but when they are tested they quickly change. This shows quite clearly that their meekness was not a true and solid vir- tue. There is a big difference between the absence of a vice and the presence of a virtue. Many people seem to be virtuous but do not actually possess a virtue be- cause they have not had to fight to acquire it. It often happens that our passions are dormant or are stifled, and if throughout those times, we do not build a good supply of fortitude to combat them, we will collapse when we are attacked.
June 16
When man shall have finished, says Scripture, then he will begin. All that we have done so far is good, but what we are about to begin is better. And when we have fin- ished that, we will begin something else which will be better still, and then the next thing will seem even more fruitful...right up until the time we leave this life to begin another that will never end; and we will not be able to commence anything better than that.
June 17
Among all the precepts that God has given us, nothing can be emphasized more than the practice of the love of one's neighbor. This is not because it takes prece- dence over the love of God, but because our nature finds the love of neighbor difficult and so we are in need of particular encouragement. Therefore, we ought to love one another with all the affection of our hearts in order to please the Heavenly Father; but let us love one another in an orderly way, remembering that reason teaches us to love the soul more than the body.
June 18
The heavenly food of the Eucharist is a spiritual food that diffuses and communicates itself to all parts of the soul and the body in such a way that we have Jesus Christ in our mind, our hearts, our breasts, our eyes, on our tongues, in our ears, hands, feet... and the sweet Savior redresses, purifies and enlivens all our being. He lives in our heart, understands in our mind, strengthens us in our breasts, helps us to see with our eyes, speaks with our tongue, and so for all the rest. In summary, He does everything in our whole being. And so it is no long- er we who live, but Jesus Christ lives in us.
June 19
When the soul is completely restored to health by that balm of charity which the Holy Spirit places in its heart, then it can go forward and stand on its own feet, alt- hough this is still by virtue of its new health and the sa- cred medicine of holy love. For this reason, although it can walk by itself, it must still render all the credit to God, who has... given it such vigorous and sturdy health.
In fact, whether the Holy Spirit strengthens us by move-
ments that He impresses on our hearts or supports us
by the charity He infuses into them; whether He saves
us by lifting us up and carrying us forward or strength-
ens our hearts with His invigorating and entwining love,
it is always in Him and by Him that we live, move and
work.

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
God of hope, you are the source and force of all that gives life to the world. You have allowed our church to assist you in bringing life, justice and peace to our brothers and sisters. Please send more ministers to continue the mission of your Son. I pray that their hearts be open to your
invitation to serve our church in need of strong and gentle ministers of the Gospel. May they grow in their understand- ing of how you are calling them forth for the needs of others and the stirrings of their own hearts. Touch their imagina- tions so they may dream of the possibilities of this commit- ment to Christ, especially as Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, pillars of gentle strength.

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time (June 13, 2021)
Today’s readings help us to keep things in perspective. Make no mistake – we are called to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. While we are charged with a tremendous duty - advancing the kingdom of God - the most effective means to accomplishing this great calling is to pay attention to detail – that is, buy doing little things with great love.
In his Introduction to the Devout Life, Francis de Sales made the following exhortation:
“Put your hand to strong things, by training yourself in prayer and meditation, receiving the sacraments, bringing souls to love God, infusing good inspirations into their hearts and, in fine, by performing big, important works according to your vocation. But never forget…those little, humble virtues that grow like flowers at the foot of the cross: helping the poor, visiting the sick, taking care of your family, with all the responsibilities that accompany such things and with all the useful diligence which prompts you to not stand idle.”
“Great opportunities to serve God rarely present themselves, but little ones are frequent…you will profit greatly in God’s sight by doing all these things because God wishes you to do the.” (III, 35, pp. 214 – 215)
God gives us a rich abundance of means proper for our salvation. By a wondrous infusion of God’s grace into our minds, hearts, attitudes and actions the Spirit makes our works become God’s work. Our good works - like planting miniscule mustard seeds here or like scattering small seeds there - have vigor and virtue enough to produce a great good because they proceed from the Spirit of Jesus.
As it turns out, little things do really mean a lot in the eyes of God. In fact, they mean everything!
