LIFE QUOTE FOR THIS WEEK

“The boundaries He establishes serve not to forbid any of sexuality’s blessings but to gather its goodness into a single setting so that nothing deprives the marriage bed of its rightful delight.” Pastor Michael

Salemink, Executive Director of Mission and Ministry, Lutherans For Life – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • lutheransforlife.org

OUR CHRISTIAN CALLING

Mark 3:35 – “Whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.” Doing the will of God starts with trusting in His Son

Jesus Christ. Once we have faith in Him and have been reborn as new creatures through Holy Baptism, we strive to grow in this faith and in a life that agrees with our faith. We should strive to grow in generosity, in kindness, and in love across our callings, which include the home, church, and society while growing in the family of God. For all who do His will are his brothers, and sisters, and mothers.

LIFE THOUGHT

“Our outer self is wasting away … in this [earthly] tent we groan” (2 Corinthians 4:16-5:2). The Scriptures understand the difficulties of a terminal diagnosis. And it holds life precious all the way through the bitter end: “Our inner self is being renewed day by day … preparing for us an eternal weight of glory.” Physician-assisted suicide cannot even compare!

PAINTING AT THE PARSONAGE

We are going to paint the rooms in the parsonage to make it more presentable to sell. If you would like to help, we will be painting all the rooms starting on June 7. If you have any questions or would like to help, please contact Joel Chapman by calling or texting him at 309-948-4652.

GOLF TICKETS FOR TPC DEERE RUN

Would you like free round of golf at TPC Deere Run?

In 2019, the Milan Christian Assistance Fund (MCAF) accepted an opportunity from the John Deere Classic Golf Tournament. In exchange for supplying people to man one of the parking lots at the tourney, the MCAF received $1835. We have accepted the same offer for the 2021 JDC. Each volunteer will get a pass to play one round of

golf at TPC Deere Run. That's a pretty good deal for you golfers out

there! There is a total of 39 shifts to cover between the four churches that support the MCAF. St. Matthew has been asked to supply people for 12 shifts. Anyone can volunteer for more than one shift if they desire. The volunteers will be needed from Wednesday, July 7th through Sunday, July 11th. Each shift of work lasts 3.5 hours (7:00 to 10:30; 10:30 to 2:00, 2:00 to 5:00). Please read the document at this URL to get the details of what is involved for the volunteers (the document is slightly outdated, but essentially accurate)

https://stmatthewmilan.files.wordpress.com/2019/06/jdc-handicapped-lot-details.pdf.

If you have more questions, or want to volunteer, please contact Mary Donegan (309-781-2632) or Al Nordstrom (309-203-1046). There is also a sign-up sheet in the hallway.

As a reminder, the Milan Christian Assistance Fund is a collaboration of St. Matthew Lutheran, Trinity United Methodist, St. Ambrose Catholic and St. Patrick’s Catholic. We all contribute to this fund. It is managed by the Blackhawk Township office for the purpose of providing

financial assistance to residents of Blackhawk Township that need help with utilities, medical, rent, etc. See https://

www.stmatthewmilan.org/milan-christian-assistance-fund/ for further details.

KITCHEN COORDINATOR—INTERESTED?

St. Matthew is looking for someone to oversee our kitchen area. The “Kitchen Coordinator” keeps an eye on supplies, cleanliness of the kitchen, would arrange for food donations, and would call for helpers (when we are again allowed to host events). A list of willing helpers and donators is already available, but we are looking for a willing gent and/ or lady to oversee this area. Please consider and call the church office at 309-787-4295.

CAMPING?

An interest has been expressed for a congregational camp out. If you are interested please contact Erin Schroeder 563-210-4313, or Greg Mueller, DCE at 309-236-8826, or sign up on the sheet on bulletin board C. We are still checking out dates and locations. Watch the bulletin for details.

THE MEN’S NETWORK

Hey guys, mark your calendars for our next “Bible Study and Breakfast” on Saturday, June 12 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. We will be doing a Study on Noah. If you have any questions, contact Pastor Larson at 309-787-4295 or cell—563-505-2342 or [email protected].

READY TO ADOPT A NEW FLOWER SPOT?

17 spots have been prepared along the front of the church building for planting. Individuals, families, or groups can select a spot to plant flowers. Please see the sign-up sheet on the welcome desk as you enter the church building to claim your spot. If you want the same spot next year, perennials are an option. Otherwise, annuals are

recommended. Please do not plant a bush of any kind. Any remaining spots unclaimed after June 19th will be planted by the church. You will be responsible for taking care of your spot throughout the season. Please note: Spots 1 and 4 have air conditioner vents behind them, so low-lying plants are recommended in order to not block the vents. All spots are roughly the same size.
