Sex in RPGs needs to be handled with care. Take a look at Grim’s articles in the Postmortem magazine Autopsy Issue 1 if you are in any way unsure about how to
proceed.
Depictions of Drugs and Violence are much more common and accepted in Roleplaying Games but handling them for a mature audience can also be tricky.
Autopsy issues 2 and 3 are well worth a look
Many of London’s Doxies were buried in Crossbones Pauper’s Graveyard which urgently needs your help. For more information visit http://www.crossbones.org.uk/

Doxy
Doxy is a Roleplaying Game based on
history. One of the History Farce
Series that includes Tough Justice
and Courtesans it delves into the vicious Georgian Underworld from the perspective from a group of tough and filthy streetwalkers.
If you’re the sort of person who likes playing heroes this isn’t the game for you. Even the scandalous madams of
Courtesans are more heroic than
these vile and base common strumpets. This is a game of a
positively Darwinian fight for survival in a gritty and unforgiving world.
Doxy is not for the faint hearted.

This game is a work of history inspired fiction created solely for the purposes of entertainment. I am touching on serious issues yes and if you want to know what I really think check out the Afterword and the Blog. My personal opinions are however nothing to do with the enjoyment of the game.
It contains foul language, violence, brutal crime and punishment and of
course sex. If you are under 18 or have a problem with any of these this isn’t your game sorry.
The tone of the text is intended to be a parody of 18th Century Pimps and Bawds so may come across as a little sexist but it is mockingly so.
Darlingk!
You new girl in Town yes? Let’s take a look at you... mmm.... such a pretty girl. Just how I like zem... Me? I’m Griselda... Griselda Spoon but everyvon calls me Greasy. You in need of a Bawd darlingk? My rates are quite reasonable... though I do like privileges... especially vith such a pretty girl... Oh you got a Bawd? Oh vell! Postmortem Studios is the personal imprint of controversial RPG writer James “Grim” Desborough who maintains that he is “too awesome for RPGnet” (please buy the T-shirt if you think likewise.) He is still best known for The Munchkin’s Guide to PowerGaming though recently his Spy-Fi
FATE game Agents of SWING well and truly kicked the sales chart’s arse! As well as SWING he has published a much needed 2nd Edition of classic modern horror Blood! Several useful system-less story seed books known as the 100 Series and the subversive and mocking attack on a Certain RPG Company Bloodsucker: The Angst. This was developed into a whole series by his dogsbody the author of this book (see below.) Postmortem continues to provide work for Writers and Artists of all cultures and belief systems and is not afraid to go places others dare not if it makes a good game that makes you think.

You are most probably thinking that a game like this can only be written by a
fat, greasy, socially inept middle aged pervert living in his parent’s
basement. Well you’ve got him on greasy, possibly on pervert and definitely on socially inept but he has a poky little room on the top floor of his parent’s house and is (at time of writing) only 25!
Anyway the important fact is that he’s always had two great passions: History and writing. After 4 years of barely passable academia at the University of Kent Canterbury he naturally felt actual serious writing was a load of horseshit. Fortunately Grim had already set him up making fun of that Certain RPG Company in the Shadow World series and was kind enough to let him sidetrack into History Gaming despite the fact it would probably make bugger all. The first History Farce game Tough
Justice hit the shelves in May 2011
followed shortly by its naughty sister
Courtesans. Supplementary material
and a fiction line under his new imprint Kittiwake Classics has been released sporadically since.
Doxy is the third History Farce game
and will hopefully, for the sake of the author’s sanity, be the last.
Also it should hopefully shift a few more copies so he doesn’t completely bankrupt himself before his inevitable early death from exhaustion!

System
System
System
Beer and Crisps has long been an in joke term amongst Roleplayers that certain games are intended for play so light hearted that you can just grab the book with some booze and snacks and have a cheap laugh for the evening. Grim took this a step further in that he used said in joke as a name of the system that ran his one off comedy game Urban Faerie in 2005. 3 years later Urban Faerie was joined by Invaderz a game featuring the incompetent Jerkian Empire’s secret war with Earth.
Invaderz got a revised Pocket Edition in early 2011 but Beer and Crisps was in for a new development.
Ian Warner decided to use it for his
History Farce games Tough Justice
and Courtesans.
Of course he never uses a system as is and throughout both books he made innovations and refinements that have created a unique take on the system that really works for rules light historical roleplaying. Well according to him anyway!
Doxy is a further step forward for the
system which makes it more of a “proper Roleplaying game” complete with Combat system. Doubtless the
Random Insane Side Projects that
follow will innovate even further and make the whole thing a bit less contrived. Or more contrived as the case may be!

Ah Roleplaying...
Ah Roleplaying...
Ah Roleplaying...
Ah Roleplaying...
I never tire of these introductions... Well actually I’m sick and tired of these introductions and I have been since I started work on the Shadow
World.
There is a reason for this beyond my laziness.
You see Roleplaying is not something you can easily explain to people in a book or even a conversation. Oh you can try... you can wax lyrical with hundreds of tired old clichés about
Cops and Robbers with dice, board
game allegories and worst of all name dropping the Granddaddy of All Roleplaying Games: Dungeons and
Dragons.
In my experience none of this gets you anywhere and the best way to get someone to dig Roleplaying is to invite them to an existing group and let them give it a shot.
Still I am contractually obligated not to talk complete incomprehensible bollocks so here is the brief and simple description.
Roleplaying Games are games with 3 or more Players that involve, funnily enough, playing the roles of
Characters in a Story World of some description (in this case the 18th Century Underworld.)
Most Players play just one Character called a Player Character.
One Player however makes the supreme sacrifice of, in effect, playing the Story World. The name for this player varies between games the most common, and boring, being Games Master but in this game she is called the Bawd.
Roleplaying essentially means acting so you in a way act out your roles using the rules presented here to resolve conflicts either with the world, a Non Player Character controlled by the Bawd or the environment in general.
Your Character’s Statistics, Good Ats, Merits and Flaws have their effect but they can only increase your chances. There is always the risk of failure and the need to determine exactly how successful your Character is.
The default way of representing this in Roleplaying Games is through rolling dice on a table top. Many other games utilise strange and arcane polygons of stupid numbers of sides but Doxy just uses your regular 6 sided dice or d6 to us gamers.
This is because I believe that a good game should not be postponed by lack of stupid polyhedrons and that in a pinch you should be able to pilfer the nearest board game.
9
Furthermore I’ve gone off this whole d6 convention. I use the following.
Dice= A 6 sided dice (I know that is
technically a die but, fuck it, I’ve always been crap at grammar!)
X Dice= X being a number of 6 sided
dice.
½ Dice= Roll a 6 sided dice. 1-2=1,
3-4=2, 5-6=3
Almost every roll in Doxy involves you rolling a dice, adding a Statistic and then comparing it against your target’s dice+ Statistic/Modifier. That simple!
Of course you may like your
Roleplaying all active, dressing up and running about which leaves little room for dice rolls. If this is the case then I provide a diceless LARP (Live Action Roleplay) system in Appendix Two. Whether you are new to Roleplaying or a veteran of a thousand dungeon crawls who never goes anywhere without a collapsible 10 foot pole I hope you enjoy the Doxy experience.
What You Need
What You Need
What You Need
What You Need
For a good old romping game of Doxy you need....
• A copy of this book (err check!)
• A handful of 6 sided dice (2 per player optimum)
• A bawdy sense of humour • An appreciation of the time
period
• A mean streak a mile wide or the ability to portray such
• A complete lack of moral scruples or the ability to portray such
Overlap?
No, no, no you silly girl. Doxies aren’t anyfink like zose hoity toighty Courtesans you’ve heard about. Ve don’t pretend to be anyfink ve’re not and ve have a lot more freedom in vhat ve can do. Problem is vithout zere so called class ve don’t have zere protection either. Do be careful my darlingk.

The History of the Doxy
The History of the Doxy
The History of the Doxy
The History of the Doxy
In Courtesans I gave you something of a historical overview of the Courtesan archetype throughout history. The Doxy archetype covers a lot of the same ground but without the “class” or “breeding” of the Courtesan (read accident of birth or sheer dumb luck) there’s is a grittier baser world with a lot less honour and a lot less
pretention.
These ARE the plump mucky tarts in the low cut dresses sucking off Punters behind the tavern. However they are, in addition, businesswomen, artists and in some cases criminal masterminds.
Just because they never rose to the lofty heights of Catherine Walters or Sophia Baddeley is no reason to despise them and neither is their existence outside of the law. When you criminalise vices you put the criminals in control of them and the poor women (and in some cases men) involved have to do what they can to survive.
Prostitution is called the oldest profession for a reason. Sex is a human need, slap a price tag on a need and you tend to make a fortune. Of course when the market is saturated with so called “high quality
products” you have to lower your prices and operate on a somewhat smaller scale.
Doesn’t just apply to prostitution either: Take a look at any market from groceries to computers: Hell, as you’re reading one, take a look at
Roleplaying Games. I guarantee you’ll find a better product from a group of randoms on the internet than you would from one of the industry “big boys!” Ahem!
Anyway back to hookers... Though they are a symptom of the human condition that will always be there few societies have ever let them get away with it.
Thus the common strumpet has always been associated with petty... and sometimes not so petty... crime: Purely as a means of survival. Things are slowly getting better in the Western World with legalisation and regulation slowly creeping in but there is still a way to go before we finally disguise this ridiculous notion that a sex worker is automatically a criminal.
The Georgian Underworld
The Georgian Underworld
The Georgian Underworld
The Georgian Underworld
Though Tough Justice can be used to play late Stuarts and early Victorians and Courtesans can be used to play any year between the Restoration and the early 20th Century in Doxy I’m12
narrowing the focus to the Georgian underworld.
Doesn’t take much tweaking to adapt this to other time periods (See
Appendix Two: Alternative Play) but I like the Georgian era so ner!
Anyway the Georgian era ran from George I’s ascension in 1714 to the death of William IV (yes I know he’s not called George but it is English historical convention roll with it) in 1837.
No other period of English history has been nearly as famous for its double standards. I kind of covered the legal double standards in Tough Justice but there were social and moral double standards too.
A lot of this was exposed by the work of an increasingly free press
particularly cartoonists like the legendary Hogarth. This was an age where “immoral harlots” were cursed by the same men who prowled the Town in the evening and made no effort to change the sorry state of affairs where 1 in 3 women were prostitutes.
Yes I am well aware the Stuart or Victorian eras were no different on street level. It’s just that the Stuart era still had press censorship and the Victorians liked to delude themselves they were as prim, proper and uptight
as their iconic Queen who was herself notoriously randy in private!
However, in the way it was so openly two faced, the Georgian era was makes the more evocative setting for
Doxy.
There are my reasons what of the setting itself?
Well the Underworld in which common prostitution was forced into was pretty mucky, grimy and gritty as you might expect. There is no point in romanticising it at all this was a Darwinist nightmare of epic
proportions: Honour amongst thieves? You’re having a laugh!
It is important to emphasise that not all common Doxies were involved in crime and those that were tended to be petty rather than serious (by today’s standards at least, remember this is Bloody Code England and you can hang for pickpocketing a shilling!) There were many semi and fully legitimate sidelines as well from disreputable Hag Fighting and acting to shop keeping.
Yes shop keeping! Many of the moral alarmists of the period noted that milliners in particular used prostitution as a means of keeping their struggling businesses afloat.
13
They may have been exaggerating (well, the gent who said all women who live together are either harlots or homosexuals or both definitely was!) But that key statistic was not a lie. 1 in 3 women, my dears... just think on that!
Currency
Currency
Currency
Currency
Throughout the Georgian era the old British currency system of pounds, shillings and pence was in use. The game itself uses the abstract Asset called Rhino but it helps to be able to talk in Story World terms about how much your Doxy is charging for her Services.
Basics
There are 3 denominations, in
descending order: Pounds (£) Shillings (s) and Pence (d). There are 12
Pennies in a Shilling and 20 Shillings in a Pound.
Coinage
Some examples of coins at the time are as follows.
Farthings: The smallest type of coin
available. Two Farthings make a Half Penny.
Half Pennies: Half Pennies are just
that half a Penny. It was sometimes pronounced Hapney particularly by the lower orders.
Pennies: No more pissing about with
halves and quarters this is a full Penny worth 1d.
Thrupence: Worth 3d: Thrupence
were awkward, odd shaped little coins.
Sixpence: Worth 6d or 1/2s: Also
known as a Tanner.
Bob: Worth 12d or 1s. This was the
lowest value one could be executed for stealing.
Florin: Worth 2s.
Half Crown: Worth 2s and 6d. As can
be seen from the Slang section there were a lot of other names for this.
Crown: Worth 5s. As can be seen
from the Slang section there were a lot of other names for this.
Hang On! Titles?
Not in zis game darlingk! Doxies don’t bother with all ze manners and pretention of ladies and Courtesans. Ve’re more
14
Sovereign: Worth £1. Very few of thelower classes ever saw these. The average wages amounted to about £6 a year. Still a Sovereign was considered vulgar compared with the more “Gentlemanly” Guinea.
Guinea: The highest valued coin in
Britain. A Guinea was worth £1 1s. The only people who ever saw guineas
were Gentlemen and those with enough wealth to have pretentions of gentry.
Remember that the average wage for a “respectable” working class
occupation at the time was around £3 a year and a Common Doxy, though comparatively wealthy, wouldn’t be making THAT much more!

Opium.
Story World: A phrase I picked up
18
world in which a Story (novel, film, comic or any other media) is played out. Regardless of any claims of “realism” even a historical Story World is still essentially an alternate world for the author (or in the case of Roleplaying the Players) to have fun with.

To play Doxy you need a Character to join with the others in the Gaming Group to make a Mob of Doxies under the Bawd Character (details on creating her in Chapter Eight: The Bawd.) Do make sure that you set the ground rules for your group as to...• Narrative detail, particularly with regard to sex acts • Separating In Character and
Out of Character • Foul language • Enthusiastic reactions The first two are ESSENTIAL but the latter two, seeing as you are by default running this game for a “mature” gaming group only really need to be watched if your Venue is public or if disapproving people are likely to barge in unannounced. Seriously I don’t want any more letters from Vicars!
Anyway once everyone is comfortable you may begin to create your
Characters.
Bawds do make sure that everyone is on the same page as to what year this is. It can affect Character
Backgrounds.
Example: Sarah decides to treat her friends to a game of Doxy they arrange to meet in a nice little pub. Do I have to play a
Doxy?
Vell vhy wouldn’t you vant to? You have just bought a Roleplaying Game called Doxy haven’t you?
Ze Core Rules assume you are playing a Mob of Doxies lead by a Bawd Character. Ze Alternative Play options in Appendix Two allow you to adapt ze game to play Independent Doxies, Gigolos and if you really vant generic criminal gangs.
Note that Doxies are not defined by their Prostitution unless you vant zem to be. You can easily make a criminal or working woman with other skills besides fucking.
21
Naturally as the venue is public they will need to behave themselves when it comes to enthusiasm but this isn’t the sort of pub that objects to the odd F Bomb.
They’re a very open minded group and all good friends so they agree to be as saucy and backstabbing as possible in their narrative and choice of actions.
If anyone has a problem in play they can just call on Sarah to call for a halt and discuss it in private if necessary. They decide their Mob is named, rather generically, the East Street Mob and that the start year is 1777. No particular reason it just sounds cool.

Everyone has something to call themselves by even dirty Doxies like you Miss!
A name can be your Doxy’s proper name she was baptised with or a Work Name which tend to be more
inventive.
A name consists of 3 parts:
Miss: Regardless of your Doxy’s
marital status (some were widows and some had absent or very
understanding husbands!) She is
referred to as Miss “professionally” as she doesn’t yet have Bawd Status.
First Name: You can pick a classy
First Name but most Doxies will have very common First Names or, if they go by a Work Name, random nouns like Crystal, Beauty, Sugar or Spice.
Surname: Again Surnames Tend to
be rather common and again the average Work Name will be rather random and usually comical in combination with the First Name.
Example: Bernadette is one of Sarah’s East Street Mob. We shall focus on her Character for the duration of the Character Creation Process.
Bernadette loves the Work Name idea and is particularly fond of Sugar for a first name. With her usual sense of humour she picks Plum for a Surname. Her Profile now looks like this...

A critical building block of any Character is the basic Concept. Unlike
Courtesans or, to a lesser extent, Tough Justice there are no archetype
thingmys with actual game effects to consider. An archetype either literary or historical may be a good place to start though: Especially if you are familiar with Courtesans and its 6 Origins.
22
To fill in your Concept just come up with a basic two or three word description of what your character is like.
Example: Bernadette loves the idea of playing a new girl on the Town. She decides that she will describe this as “Naive Noob.”

Appearance
Naturally if you are selling sex or committing crime your physical appearance is quite important to your career!Exact physical descriptions tend to come off as really pretentious and boring and some people have trouble with them.
So to make things easy I have written 4 Descriptors with 4 Options. Choose one Option from each to create a vague picture of your Doxy’s Appearance.
The Descriptors are detailed below with their Options.
Eye Colour
Not many Punters look your Doxy in the eye but some have a preference for certain colourations.
Your Options are....
• Brown: Your Doxy’s Eyes are an average shade of Brown. There isn’t really a particular preference for this colour among a lot of Punters but Punters are, as you will find out, quite weird.
• Hazel: Your Doxy’s Eyes are a paler and thus more unusual shade of brown. Hazel eyes are quite popular though they are relatively common. • Blue: Your Doxy is a lucky
girl with sparkling Blue Eyes. Very popular with the Punters! Lucky, lucky, lucky! • Green: Your Doxy is a bit
unusual with Green Eyes. Some Punters go for them others find them creepy.
Hair Colour
Hair Colour is a bit more apparent even from a distance or in the gloom of the night streets. There are preferences among Punters that vary considerably.
Your Options are...
• Brunette: Your Doxy is a
23
Doesn’t really stand out from the crowd but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. • Blonde: Your Doxy is a
regular Goldilocks with shiny Blonde Hair. She can easily turn heads the lucky girl! • Raven Haired: Your Doxy is
a dark haired temptress. Not as popular as Blondes but almost there.
• Red Head: Your Doxy’s Hair is a fiery Red colour. Despite all the ginger prejudice Red Heads have something of a cult following amongst serious Punters.
Tits
Err yeah... In Courtesans I used a prim, proper and ladylike for err... those. That’s just not appropriate in a dirty vulgar game like Doxy. Therefore we use base and vulgar terms.
Your Options are...
• Titchy: Not exactly stacked are you my love? Your Doxy’s chest is somewhat smaller than average. • Average: Your Doxy is
about averagely built cleavage wise.
• Large: Your Doxy has quite a large French Shelf. • Ooohlala!: Your Doxy is
about as well stacked as it is
physically possible to be in the Georgian Underworld (pre cosmetic surgery remember?)
Arse
Again vulgar game, vulgar term: Arse refers to waist and hindquarters. Your Options are...
• Bony: Your Doxy is so skinny she has a Bony Arse. Not many Punters want her sat on their knee!
• Average: Your Doxy has enough “padding” for a good squeeze but she’s not in the big leagues.
• Large: Your Doxy has quite the rear end. Punters may well complement her on it. • Big and Beautiful: Your
Doxy is one large madam. Her Arse is the talk of the Town
All Shapes and Sizes In my time I’ve had so many pretty girls of so many shapes and sizes. No combination could possibly surprise me. So long as you’re pretty vich you are my darlingk!

Example: Bernadette so wants Sugar to be a Blonde but she goes for Green rather than typical Blue Eyes just to be difficult. Her body shape is nothing particularly special with Average ratings for both Tits and Arse. Her Profile now looks like this...

Statistics
All Roleplaying Games have a set of basic Statistics representing the key areas of competence (or
incompetence) of the Character. I’m lazy so I just call these Statistics. There are 6 Statistics....
• Bitching: Bitching is the ability of a Doxy to let out her anger and her hatred in scathing verbal attacks: It also covers her ability to act as the aggressor in aggressive S&M style Seductions and Sex Acts.
• Bonking: Bonking represents a Doxy’s physical resilience and sexual skill: This makes it possibly the most critical Statistic in the game!
• Charming: Charming is your Doxy’s ability to use both her force of personality and flagrant sex appeal to win people over.
• Cheating: Cheating is your
Doxy’s ability to steal, hide, perceive threats and evade capture: ‘Tis always the Sly ones that do the best! • Daring: Daring represents
your Doxy’s courage and self control. In such a wicked world it is not so much her being willing to say yes to things as her ability to say no to things!
• Fighting: Fighting represents
a Doxy’s physical strength and skill at... well Fighting. An oft neglected Statistic, it is more useful than you think. Unlike Tough Justice and
Courtesans this game has a
proper and potentially lethal Combat System!
You have 18 points to split between these 6 Statistics. Please don’t be boring and stick 3 in each! Yes this is a much grittier game than Tough
Justice or Courtesans and you’re less
likely to be able to get away with cartoonish Statistic extremes but that is no excuse to be dull!
Example: Bernadette decides Sugar is exceptionally aimiable and attractive with a Charming of 5. She also has a
25
wickedly sharp tongue for 4 Bitching. She’s moderately hardy and
amorously skilled for 3 Bonking and similarly average with regard to acts of strength, dexterity and violence with a Fighting of 3. What she lacks is courage and wariness with a Daring of 2 and a Cheating of 1!
Her Profile now looks like this

Choose Strong Statistic
There is always one area that Doxy excels at. This is called her Strong Statistic. How exactly this works in Game Terms will be explained in Chapter 3: Core Mechanics. For now all you need to know is that a Strong Statistic is... well... strong funnily enough.Choose one of your Statistics and label it as Strong. Bear your Concept in mind whilst doing this.
Example: Bernadette decides that Sugar will be a sweet and pretty little thing and selects Charming as her Strong Statistic.
Her Profile now looks like this...

Just as a Doxy is really good in one area she is also really bad in another. Again how Weak Statistics work will be explained in Chapter 3: Core Mechanics.Choose one of you Statistics (that isn’t already Strong) and label it as Weak. Again remember your Concept.
Example: Bernadette has already scored Sugar’s Cheating very low so she decides to make it Weak as well.

A Doxy can never lose Pull from failing a Servicing action with a Regular.
Special: This Merit can be “ranked
up” each “level” representing a new Regular whilst occupying the same Merit Slot on the Character Sheet. Obviously if one Punter dies the Merit simply drops a level rather than vanishing completely.

Everyone has their weaknesses and in Doxy these are represented by Flaws. Flaws are, like Merits, Background elements with rules attached. However unlike Merits they don’t help you: In fact they are a right royal pain in your pretty arse!Flaws come in four Categories: Recovery Flaws, Asset Flaws, Tactical Flaws and Escalating Flaws.
Recovery, Asset and Tactical Flaws are laid out as follows

Escalating Flaws
Escalating Flaws
Escalating Flaws
Escalating Flaws
Escalating Flaws work slightly differently in that they err... well... escalate!
At the start of each Week the Doxy must make a Management Test to try and contain the Flaw’s effects. This is a Test of a set Statistic against the number of times the Flaw has been taken (known as the Escalation Level) as the Difficulty.
If the Test is failed the Margin of Failure has an effect appropriate to the Flaw.
They have a similar profile to the other two kinds of Flaw.
Name: The Name of the Flaw
Cancels: If a Doxy with a Merit thisFlaw cancels gains this Flaw in play she immediately loses said Merit. At Character Creation she may not take
the Flaw if she has the Merit the Flaw Cancels.
Description: Details of the Flaw’s

Escalation Type: The infection gets
worse.
Management Statistic: The Management Statistic for Consumptive is Bonking.
Test Failure: A Doxy who fails the
Management Test for Consumptive takes a number of Bonking Injuries equal to her Margin of Failure. These Injuries can be healed by any normal means.
Escalation Ceiling Escalation Levels can go as high as you like but it is not at all recommended to take zem above 8 as that will make zem more or less impossible to beat.
37
Nymphomania
Cancels: Iron Will, Bit of Class and
Dell.

addicted to sex and cannot focus her mind on much else for long.
Escalation Type: This is a mental
illness so it gets more and more severe the more the Flaw Escalates.

Management Test for this Flaw must make a number of Risky sexual actions during the week equal to her Margin of Failure.
Bedlamite

insane only just managing to keep out of the nut house! She seems normal most of the time but when you set her off she could very easily kill you for the tiniest perceived threat.
Escalation Type: Again it’s a mental
illness that slowly eats at the mind as the Flaw Escalates.
Management Statistic: The
Management Statistic for Bedlamite is Daring.
Test Failure: A Doxy who fails her
Management roll for this Flaw will attempt to Murder a number of Punters or Marks equal to her Margin of Failure. The Bawd selects which poor bugger gets the treatment!
Fire-Ship
Cancels: Dell, Bit of Class, Tireless Description: The Doxy is a
“Fire-Ship” in that she has contracted the dreaded pox! This horrific STD will doubtless eventually kill her and is highly contagious.
