What is a code free solution?

• My definition; any solution without compiled code

• Corresponds to Composites/Developer section of Wheel (sic) • Education and Governance needed (on-going support needs) • These End User Solutions are not for everyone!

(7)

Governance

• Any type of solution needs Governance

– Stability of Platform – Future Upgrades – Supportability

• End User Solutions are often not allowed

– Default Governance stance = Not Allowed – Considered “Easier and safer” not to do it

• Cost/Benefit Analysis is usually not done

– Benefit vs Support Costs

– Justification for extra support resources?

– These technologies are designed to empower end users – These features are already paid for!

(8)

• Free Tool – Download from Microsoft website

• Formerly the most powerful tool for creating no-code solutions on top of SharePoint but ‘no-code’ is being stretched

• Administration • Workflow

(13)

SharePoint Designer 2013

• Dataview Web part – no longer possible in no-code • Many organizations don’t allow its use

– Loss of preview pane now justifies this!

• Some features of this tool are deprecated due to the changes in SP 2013

(14)

Access Services

• Publish an Access Database to SharePoint

– Data and Forms become Lists, SharePoint Forms, Pages – Some limitations but utilises tables, queries, forms,

macros, and reports

– Performance much improved over 2010 – Very Powerful and potentially quick results – Users do not need to have MS Access

(15)

Excel Services

• Publish an Excel Workbook to SharePoint

– Users do not need to have Excel to view data – Data becomes Read Only – no online editing

– Displays excel data without revealing formula involved – Some limitations

– Performance needs to be assessed

(16)

Visio Services
