Client Instructions: Getting Started with Banner INB (Internet Native Banner) Primary Knowledge

Area:

General Banner

Prerequisites:

Windows XP and Internet Explorer software; Authorized Banner access; screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher.

Overview:

INB replaces the client/server method for connecting to Banner with a web-based delivery called INB, Internet Native Banner. INB has the advantage of making Banner available from any computer on campus with an internet connection and the Internet Explorer web browser. Functionality remains the same as in the client/server version of Banner.

Note: To access Banner or INB from off-campus requires CITRIX/Remote Access account setup.

A) Setting Screen Resolution to 1024 x 768

INB requires a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher. To change the screen resolution:

1. Right-click on the Windows Desktop. A pop-up menu will appear (Figure 1). Click Properties on the pop-up menu.

2. In the Display Properties window, click the Settings tab.

3. Under Screen Resolution, click-hold-and drag the slider to the right (towards More) until the resolutions setting of 1024 x 768 pixels appears (Figure 2). 4. Click OK to save changes.

B) Logging On To INB (Internet Native Banner)

There are multiple methods of accessing INB:

Method 1: Accessing INB using the my mcc Web Portal Method 2: Accessing INB using the Desktop Icon

Method 3: Accessing INB using the Start Menu

Method 1: Logging On to INB Using the my mcc Web Portal:

1. Open Internet Explorer and log on to the my mcc web portal at

http://mymcc.middlesex.mass.edu.

2. Click on the link for Banner listed in the My Links area of the my mcc web portal (Figure 3)

A forms initiator window will appear. After a moment, a third window will open and display the Banner logon form (Figure 4).

3. Enter your Banner Username, Password, and Database name (PROD). 4. Click the Connect Button

Method 2: Logging On to INB Using the Desktop Icon:

1. Double-click the BANNER icon located on the Windows desktop (Figure 5).

After opening my mcc in Internet Explorer, you should consider making my mcc your home page.

Method 3: Logging On to INB Using the Start Menu:

1. Click the Start Menu > All Programs > Banner Databases > BANNER (Figure 7).

2. A forms initiator window will appear. After a moment, a third window will open and display the Banner logon form (Figure 8).

C) Your Internet Native Banner Session

After logging on to Internet Native Banner, two buttons will appear in the system tray associated with your INB computing session (Figure 9):

The window associated with this button MUST REMAIN OPEN while you are running INB on a second window. Closing this window will terminate the INB session.

D) Opening a Second Session of INB

After logging on to Internet Native Banner, two buttons will appear in the system tray associated with your INB computing session ( see Figure 9). These windows, as well as the current window session of the my mcc web portal window, cannot be used to open a second session of INB. Instead, a new instance of Internet Explorer must be started to initiate a second session of INB. Note: Not all Banner users are authorized to open more than one session of INB.

To open a second session of INB:

1. Select a desired method of accessing a second session of INB:

a. Double-click the BANNER icon located on the Windows desktop, or b. Click the Start Menu > All Programs > Banner Databases > BANNER, or

c. Open another instance of Internet Explorer by clicking Start > All Programs > Internet Explorer (or use an existing desktop shortcut for Internet Explorer) and Logon to the my mcc web portal at http://mymcc.middlesex.mass.edu.

2. Enter your Banner Username, Password, and Database name (PROD).and click the connect button.

NOTE: If an attempt is made to open another session of INB from the first session window of the my mcc web portal, this error message will appear (Figure 10):

Click OK on the error message window and close new the web session window. Your first session of INB will remain connected. If a second session of INB is desired, then follow the steps listed in the section above entitled Opening a Second Session of INB.

E) Closing INB

1. Click the Exit icon in the horizontal toolbar on the Banner General Menu (GUAGMNU). A confirmation dialog box appears (Figure 11):

2. Click the Yes button to exit from Banner.

F) Accessing Banner Reports

Banner Reports are accessed through the My Links area of the my mcc web portal.

Note:The Banner Reports link will only appear on the portal if you have been assigned system privileges to run reports.

1. Click the Banner Reports link on the my mcc portal (Figure 12).

2. An alert message regarding an “Active X” control may appear. Click the “Yes” button to proceed to the Banner Reports Menu. (Figure 13)

3. A separate program window will

open containing the Banner Reports Menu. (Figure 14)

4. Click the button on the Main Menu entitled “Reports Menu” (Figure 14)
