In an effort to grow the community of younger musicians in the pipe organ field,

the American Guild of Organists has declared this year the

“Year of the Young Organist”.

Through the sharing of performances by young musicians and the publication of

resources, we hope to bring more visibility to the new generation of musicians.

Additionally, 1 year of free Guild membership is now available

for all current, lapsed, and new members under the age of 30.

July 2021

Summer greetings! Happy 4th of July! I hope that you are getting some time to enjoy the blessings of warm weather, family and friends, dinner on the deck, and whatever helps you relax and recharge! As said before, this past year has really zapped our routine and called us to be creative and innovative in our response.

I hope that you have been enjoying the AGO OrganFest 2021. It is appropriate that the theme “beauty endures” is used to remind us that through it all this idea keeps us grounded and connected to our musical aspirations. Even if you have missed some of the recitals or presentations, the online format allows going back and revisiting. I look forward to the chance to attend an in person convention once again. It is a beautiful opportunity to be present to each other and there is no way to replace the energy in a space full of invigorated individuals! The online format, however, does allow for everyone to bring the experience directly into the home and to give a quiet space for reflection and enjoyment! Do take advantage!

This coming year July 1, 2021-June 30, 2022 is the “Year of the Young Organist”. Any individual under the age of 30 will receive full membership benefits, including The American Organist. New and renewing young organists can take advantage of this offer by visiting AGOhq.org/free-membership. Please make a special effort to invite young organists to engage with our chapter. We should be taking the opportunity to share the reasons the guild means so much to us and offering this gift to our emerging professionals.

If you haven’t yet, mark your calendars! Fall will be upon us quickly! Jan Kraybill will be in recital Friday, October 8th, at Immanuel Presbyterian Church. Sunday, November 7th, will be the AGO/OHS

combined recital at St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Sunday, November 14th, will be the dedication recital of the new Juget-Sinclair organ at Christ King in Wauwatosa with Isabelle Demers performing. Robin Cote, voicer for Juget-Sinclair, will be giving a presentation during the week before highlighting the installation. We are excited about these events and highly encourage you to join us and to bring along a friend,

colleague, emerging young organist, spouse/partner to enjoy these programs and to gather with the wonderful members of our organization. We are proud of our local organization!

We continue to work on the archive digitization project with the goal of making the archive available online by the fall. Liz Walloch is excited to bring ideas through her articles to allow members to interact with the archive.

Thank you for your membership and for your contributions, both in service and monetarily! We cannot do it without you! Please feel free to share your thoughts and concerns; we must work together to continue the vitality and significance of the AGO!

Blessings!

Audrey Rhinehart

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming fall events; remember to mark your calendar now!

Blessings! Audrey Rhinehart

Choral Music Giveaway

Dear AGO Friends,

The church where I was formerly the music director (Sherman Park Lutheran) has been sold. The new owner is a school. The Lutheran congregation (about 30 people attending, with no choir anymore) has a two-year lease to continue using the nave on Sundays, but all the other property of the Lutheran

congregation must be removed from the building.

They are therefore giving away all the music in the choir library for free. There are a good number of anthems, books, and other cantatas and service music items, with multiple copies.

I am helping them with the giving-away and distribution of the music library.

We are planning to have an “open house” on Saturday, August 7, 2021, from 1 pm to 3 pm…for any AGO member to come to the church and collect any music copies anyone would like.

Parking is available on Sherman Boulevard (the church is located at 2703 N. Sherman Boulevard at the intersection of Center Street…. west side of the Sherman Blvd.). Enter the building at the double doors at the south end of the school building where the school joins the church building (there is a large brass sculpture of Jesus and the Disciples in a boat above these doors).

For information, please call Scott Riedel at (cell) 414-429-8967.
