Responsible for:

The Serviceperson is responsible for developing and implementing programs that will achieve the corporate objectives in the functional areas assigned the region and meet the region and system standards.

Key Accountabilities & Duties:

Broad Scope

 Provides the specialized technical skills necessary for the construction, operations and maintenance of a reliable electric system for the benefit of the consumer-member. (The position of Serviceperson must have actual training through Journeyman Lineman classification).

 Render prompt, courteous, adequate, and diplomatic electric service to all member-consumers at the lowest possible cost consistent with sound business principles.

 Encourage a high degree of understanding and appreciation of the cooperative way of doing business among employees, members, and general public.

 Promote an effective member and public relations program through community participation and involvement.

 Fulfills emergency service restoration duties that will require after-hours availability or extended work hours over several days.

 Promote employee dedication and loyalty by participation in company-sponsored functions.  Give open, positive support to all management decisions and actions taken.

Position Description

 Make recommendations for changes needed to improve the operations of assigned department as it relates to the position of Serviceperson.

Specific Focus

 Responsible for prompt restoration of service following any interruption:

 As a qualified Journeyman Lineman is subject to on-call work required for restoration of service to member-owners.

 Is primarily responsible for restoration of service during regular working hours.

 Uses judgment in deciding when and what additional personnel and equipment are needed to restore power.

 Connects and disconnects electric service.

 Investigates and settles, when possible, member inquires and complaints.

 Explains to member’s services provided by EnergyUnited, which may include fees, operating policies, rates, and service rules and regulations.

 Reads single and three phase meters as required.

 Handles members' delinquent accounts in accordance with EnergyUnited policies and procedures.

 Collects engineering data as assigned including quarterly inspections of line regulators and yearly inspections of capacitors.

 Assist Construction Crews as needed and performs maintenance of the system as assigned or needed.

 Follows and enforces safety rules and regulations of the cooperative.  Presents and participates in a scheduled safety meeting as assigned.

 Thoroughly and accurately maintains and completes all necessary records including time sheets, staking sheets, material accounting, vehicle mileage, service orders, meter readings, outage records, and other reports as required.

 Learn to use, install, maintain, and monitor our recording equipment and meters for investigating service complaints and to help maintain load balance.

Reports to: Region Line Manager and is accountable to him/her for results achieved.

Direct Reports: All linemen classifications as assigned or called out by him/her for specific outages.

Internal Relationships: Shall maintain internal relationships necessary to achieve purpose of position and desired results.

External Contacts: Shall maintain necessary job related external contacts to assure satisfactory results. Shall use tact and professional business practices when communicating with members.

Position Description

Position Specifications for:

Serviceperson

EDUCATION: Must be a high school graduate or equivalent in order to effectively perform documentation requirements of this position.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one years experience as a Journeyman Lineman is required.

KNOWLEDGE: Must be highly knowledgeable with current electric power line construction practices, both overhead and underground, distribution and transmission. Knowledge of RUS construction specifications, electric metering, NESC, and electronics a plus. Must have a North Carolina Commercial Drivers License – Class A with good driving record.

ATTITUDE: Must have the commitment to achieve departmental, Cooperative and individual goals and objectives. Must be a self-starter. Must be neat, orderly and accurate toward job. Must possess attentive attitude toward safety on the job.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must have good personal habits and be neatly groomed and dressed. Must display tolerance and tact in dealing with people. Must have characteristics of honesty, diligence and thoroughness.

ABILITY AND SKILLS: Must possess the ability to communicate a desirable image of self and the Cooperative to members and the general public. Should be accurate in recording and transcribing information. Must have the ability to plan work, make sound decisions from observations and carry out instructions.

WORKING CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily outside. Position requires outdoor work, climbing, and regularly lifting weights of approximately 40 pounds. Requires walking in all types of terrain, sitting, standing, and driving/riding in vehicle. Some overtime work will be required. Will be expected to pull on-call duty after becoming familiar with the Region. Must be available for work during adverse weather conditions. Must reside within the 20 miles of the Operations Center of the job applying for, or be willing to relocate. Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Class A CDL driver’s license and have a safe driving record. Must be available for work during adverse weather conditions.

SAFETY - Performs all assignments safely assuring compliance with all Safety related rules, regulations and policies.

EXEMPT STATUS – This position is non-exempt as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act as amended.
