Through http://lms.uis.no you may log on to it’s:learning and the StudentWeb. These are the two main applications for communication between you as a student and the University of Stavanger.

it’s:learning

is the University’s net-based learning system that may be accessed via the Internet independent of time and place. The system is simple and flexible, and is a valuable tool for both traditional class-room teaching and remote teaching.

You will need to use it’s:learning from the beginning of the semester, as this is where you will obtain information regarding your studies. Here you will find all relevant information from the University and the student

organizations. You will find your subjects and you have a channel for communicating with your teachers as well as with fellow students.

it’s:learning is the most covenient way for us to reach YOU with the information you need.

You will also have access to e-mail, online courses, calendar function, the StudentWeb and much more. Through it’s:learning you will also be able to access personal documents that you have stored at the University, for instance from your home computer.

it’s:learning gives your teachera fast and easy overview of your submitted assignments, participation and activity in the subject. Through it’s:learning the teacher can follow you up more closely and give you continuous response on your progress – as required by the Quality Reform.

Logging on to it’s:learning

1. Start Internet Explorer

2. In the address field, type: http://lms.uis.no 3. Press Enter on the keyboard.

4. Read the information in the window that appears. 5. Enter username and password on the left hand side.

6. The first time you log on, the window Welcome to the University ofStavanger will appear. Read and follow the instruction carefully.

7. Place a check mark in the box I hereby accept… and click Accept to continue

Main page

When you have logged on to it’s:learning you will get to the main page of the University. In the top part of the screen you will find the main menu which is always the same. Here you will find, among other things, the option Help/About which is also the online documentation for it’s:learning. Use the help function frequently, following this procedure:

1. Click the desired menu/item.

2. Then click Help/About. You will now have information about the item that is currently displayed on the screen.

Important information from the university and your faculty

Under News you will find messages that are relevant to all students and/or employees at the

university, as well as information from your faculty. Make sure to ALWAYS stay up to date on this information.

In the hierarchy to the left you will find the name of the faculty you belong to. Information from your faculty can be accessed here. Any messages will remain on the site until removed by the faculty.

1. Click on your faculty in the hierarchy to the left. The hierarchy will expand. 2. Single-click the icon for the information that you want to read.

3. The text will appear in the pane on the right hand side of the screen. Messages from student organisations

You can subscribe to messages from student organisations. Typically, these are brief messages that are relevant for a short period of time. We strongly recommend that you subscribe to these messages to make sure that you don’t miss out on offers and events. The messages that you subscribe to will appear under the My subscriptions heading to the right on the Main Page.

How to register a subscription

1. Click Subscribe to the right of the My subscriptions heading.

2. In the list that appears, you select the organisations that you wish enter a subscription for. 3. Messages from these organisations will appear under My subscriptions.

How to terminate at subscription

1. Click Subscribe to the right of the My subscriptions heading. 2. Click OK-button to terminate all subscriptions.

Courses

The Courses site is customised to the individual student. Here you will find a list of the courses you will attend at the university. You will also find links to the online courses that you can access, under Search course catalogue. Single-click the name of the course that you want to access.

Course site

The course site is the window that appears when you access a course. Here you will find information about course assignments, for example papers to be submitted, course activities, a list of news and changes since you last visited the site and messages from the subject teacher, under the heading Bulletin board. In the hierarchy to the left you will find the contents of the course. When you click on the relevant item in the hierarchy, the contents will be displayed in the main window.

E-mail

You can send and receive e-mails through the electronic mailbox that you will get access to while you are studying at the University of Stavanger. You may also access your e-mail inbox via it’s:learning by clicking the E-mail button on themenu. You can set up as many pop-mail accounts as you want.

To access this mailbox outside it’s:learning, follow this procedure: 1. Start Internet Explorer

2. In the address field, type: http://post.stud.uis.no

3. In the box that appears, enter the same user name and password that you used to log on to the web and it’s:learning.

4. This will open your iNotes Web Access Inbox.

5. When you want to exit iNotes Web Access, it is very important that you use the Logout feature on the top right hand side of your screen.

You may also access your mailbox directly from your web browser at http://post.stud.uis.no.

Some of the menus under the main menu

ePortfolio: An ePortfolio is a collection of digital folders that can be published as a hole on the Internet, nearly as a homepage. You can publish different digital folders, e. g as assorted folders and private folders. Assorted folders are folders from the subjects you’re participating in, while private folders are folders you can put in your ePortfolio.

My settings: Under the menu My settings you will find Change details whichis a page containing information about yourself. Some information about you will be entered automatically, such as your e-mail address at the University. Some information you may enter yourself, for instance a photo of yourself. For the teacher it is handy to be able to link a face to each name, and your fellow students may see who they are studying with.

Customise it’s learning allows you to customise it’s learning to suit your needs. Here you can select between different languages, editor type and different other selections that influences your it’s learning profile.

Alers allows you to manage your alerts (SMS. E-mail), which allow you to be notified about changes in it’s learning.

Account Information

Your username and password are used to log on to the network, it’s:learning and e-mail: User name: Your student number

eg.: 123456

Password: Consists of a minimum of 8 characters – both lower case letters, numbers and signs.

PLEASE remember to keep your student number and password separate. eg.: nnn77aa%e

E-mail: You can find your e-mail address by selecting the My settings menu and Change details in it’s:learning. Your e-mail address consists of your

StudentWeb: Log on to the StudentWeb by entering your national identity number and a PIN code.

The PIN code can be found on the My settings menu and Change details in it’s:learning.

National identity
