Course synopsis (max. 10 lines) ____________________________________

The course covers all aspects of modern refractive surgery. In addition to an introduction to

essential basic concepts such as topography and corneal biomechanics, preoperative

examination methods and a survey of the devices and instruments used in refractive surgery,

all approved surgical procedures are presented in detail (including videos). The intra-and

postoperative complications of the various procedures are reviewed, the visual and refractive

results are presented via a survey of peer-reviewed literature, new and evolving methods such

as presbyopia correction and custom ablations are introduced, and the evaluation of the

post-operative quality of vision is presented.

Aim(s) of the course (max. 10 lines) _________________________________

The course functions as both a basic (first half) and an advanced (second half) introduction to

modern corneal and IOL-based refractive surgery for the trained ophthalmologist planning to

enter this subspecialty. However, because the curriculum is updated annually, the course also

provides the practicing refractive surgeon access to the most up-to-date information in the field.
