This process will be described on the basis of Mozilla Firefox browser and Ubuntu, one of the most popular Linux distributions, but it can be applied to other browsers and distributions with small variations.
1) INSTALLING JAVA
1.1 Downloading Java Virtual Machine
The first step consists of enabling the browser to tackle downloads and installations from Internet, for which it is necessary to install Java Virtual Machine from the software website (Picture 1). From there, we must select the self-extracting version (Picture 2).
TO BEAR IN MIND: There are Ubuntu distributions that include a GNU Java version that will not be valid
to run Malted. It is necessary to installa Sun Java Virtual Machine, as it is described here.

Now it is time to run the file (right click on the file – Picture 5) from a console terminal (Picture 6).

Next, we start the process of installing Malted, so we open the folder called installer, included in the self-running Malted DVD (Picture 9).

We must choose the file called malted-installer.jar and choose to open it with another application (Pictures 10 and 11).

The application to be chosen is the executable Java file, placed in the bin folder in the directory where we had installed Java (Picture 12). We must add –jar to the execution command (Picture 13).

From now onwards, the guided Malted installer starts working. It follows average steps through all the software installations. These steps are illustrated in the sequence of pictures 14 to 23.

3) How to install Malted units independently
In case of deciding to install new didactic units after the system first installation, it is not necessary or convenient to run Malted installer again. The unit installer, malted-installUnidades.jar, can be run directly; it is placed in the DVD installer directory. The steps to follow are the same as those described in 2).
4) Running Malted
The only step left is to click on the Malted Browser icon in our Desktop so as to open its initial window, which will allow us to choose teaching units in a particular language and for a specific Secondary or Primary educational level.
