NEW ZEALAND

TERTIARY COLLEGE

www.nztertiarycollege.ac.nz

SCHOOL SUMMARY:

NZTC is a private education establishment specialising in early childhood teacher education with campuses in Auckland and Christchurch.

The college was founded in 1982 by Kindercare Learning Centres, a high quality New Zealand early childhood and education provider, to meet the need for high quality teacher education programs to support the teachers working in their centres. Government regulations now require a high proportion of staff employed in ECE centres to have a degree, and be Registered Teachers, and there is a continuing shortage of such teachers. For International students, that includes having IELTS 7.0. NZTC delivers courses in two streams: the Teaching Stream for those stronger in English and who will meet Teacher Registration requirements, and an Education Stream for those not quite so strong in English. Graduates of this stream may still work in ECE centres, but not as registered teachers.
