This course covers the main content of a general mediation training and at the same time focuses on the fi eld of peace-building and development cooperation. It fulfi ls the require-ments of the German Federal Association for Mediation (Bun-desverband Mediation) in a way that it can easily be topped up for an accreditation.

Insight into the practical experience of trainers in multiple forms of mediation and related approaches in various contexts High diversity of teaching methods: exercises with sample cases from the participants’ personal experiences, real-life simulations with cases from the trainers’ practical experiences, individual feedback, analogue forms of learning
Intensive practice (maximum 18 participants)
Co-training: Groups larger than 10 participants will benefi t from the expertise of two trainers in each module also providing learning support, experiences, and serving as role models of co-mediation/co-facilitation

Depending on the level of societal concern, cultural diversity, and complexity of a confl ict, different actors (often called “tracks”) may have various approaches. This course embraces the complementarities of multiple tracks and promotes media-tive efforts which work within the diversity of approaches to create added value to the overall confl ict resolution process. The course will look at the various tracks and the linkages among them to support sustainable peace.
The course addresses individuals that presently or in the future work in the areas of development cooperation, humanitarian aid, civilian confl ict resolution and peace-building or peace studies as well as those who want to expand their knowledge and skills in confl ict transformation.
For others who wish to acquire a new and self-contained career perspective as mediator, this course fulfi ls the require-ments of the fi rst component of the 200 hour certifi cation of the German Federal Association of Mediation.

Berghof FoundationThe Berghof Foundation is an independent, non-governmental and non-profi t organisation dedicated to supporting confl ict stakeholders and actors in their efforts to achieve sustainable peace through peace-building and confl ict transformation. It offers knowledge, expertise and services in confl ict research, peace support and peace education. CSSP – Berlin Center for Integrative Mediation is a registered, non-profi t association in Berlin/Germany, founded in 2005 to draw lessons from the ten years work of the International Mediator in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Prof. Dr. Christian Schwarz-Schilling (1995 – 2004).
CSSP is operating on different tracks with politicians, commu-nity leaders and civil society mainly focusing on inter-commu-nity dialogue facilitation and mediation support. CSSP works in the Western Balkans, the MENA Region, Nepal, South Caucasus and Ukraine. CSSP has expertise in mediation, political confl ict analysis, intercultural communication, capacity-building, negotiation, strategic planning and advocacy.

Dr. Norbert Ropers (Berghof Foundation)
Founding director of the Berghof Research Center for Confl ict Studies 1993, from 2004 to 2011 co-director of the Berghof Foundation for Peace Support, since 2012 Program Director at the Berghof Foundation. Political scientist and sociologist, mediator, facilitator and trainer. During the 1970’s and 1980’s he was active in peace and confl ict studies with special interest on international exchange and intercultural learning. During the 1990’s his focus lay on action research regarding ethno-political confl icts and their transformation. 2001-2008 director of a peace building network in Sri Lanka. Since 2009 support of insider-mediators in South and Southeast Asia based in Bangkok.
Ljubjana Wuestehube (inmedio berlin)
Mediation trainer with more than 15 years of mediation experience, certifi ed by the German and Austrian federal associations of mediators. She has been co-directing 200-hour-mediation-courses in cooperation with the Swiss Development Cooperation as well as the University of Applied Sciences of North-Western Switzerland for many years. In 1998, Ljubjana co-founded inmedio, institute for mediation, consulting, development. During the 1980’s, she organized German-Soviet youth exchanges and developed a concept that combines peer-mediation with trauma-counselling for war refugees from the Balkans in the 1990’s. Since then she gathered experience in Kosovo, Palestine/Israel, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Nepal among others. Dirk Splinter (inmedio berlin)
Certifi ed mediator and mediation trainer (BM, BMWA) with more than ten years of experience in the fi eld. He has been co-directing inmedio berlin, institute for mediation, consulting, development for more than 10 years. Dirk mediates in various contexts (community, business, INGOs and relief agencies) but also designs and implements confl ict-management-systems for bigger organizations. Furthermore, he provides mediation trainings for post-graduate programs of different universities in Germany and Switzerland since 2002. He was/is involved in
Trainers
Christoph Lüttmann (CSSP)
is a peace mediator, trainer and facilitator specialised on inter-community and political processes in transitional and confl ict-affected regions. With a background in Political Science and Public Law he previously worked for the United Nations, the “Research Center 700 - Governance in Limited Statehood” and the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) in Berlin. Christoph realised various mediation related processes in the regions of the Western Balkan, South Asia and Eastern Europe, for example “direct” facilitation of dialogue and mediation processes with groups in confl ict, mediation support for insider mediators and international organisations, mediation in the context of acces to justice and reduction of case-backloads in courts, support to state actors on regional dialogue as well as legal frameworks for mediation.
Julia von Dobeneck (CSSP)
is a peace mediator and holds a diploma in media consultancy. Julia has many years of experience in political consultancy and negotiation as she used to work as scientifi c advisor for members of the German Bundestag for eight years. She always focused on political participation and dialogue instruments in the on- and offl ine world. In 2012, she joined the CSSP team as Integrative Mediator on Kosovo. She conducted several stakeholder meetings, political consultations and round tables on different tracks in different regions in Kosovo and works together with the Kosovo team and CSSPs cooperation part-ners on implementing a mediation system in Mitrovica/Kosovo on both sides of Ibar river.
