Food Truck Success!

The BBQ food truck event went very well. Over 100 meals were served. Siesta Village received $105 for hosting the event.

Congratulations to Phil Howell and Nancy Klenshe for winning the 50/25/25, with $67.00 going to the Village. Thank you to Kay and Bob Rodrigue for organizing this first (but hopefully not last) time event.

Don’t Forget Your Meatloaf Dinner!

The drive-up meatloaf dinner is this Thursday, February 4. Meals had to be ordered last week. Meals will be available from 4:30 to 5:30 pm at the back door of the Village Hall.

Thank you to Jim and Jane Husnik and their crew for making this event possible!

Activity Approval Process The Social Club Board is happy that we have volunteers stepping up to lead activities in a safe and responsible way.

If you are interested in organizing a one-time or recurring activity, you need to go to the SRV office and pick up two forms: one for Hidalgo County and one for the SRV Social Club Board.

Once completed, return these forms to the SRV office. A member of the Board will contact you to let you know if the activity is approved.

Please note that forms need to be submitted at least 15 days prior to the activity.

News/Updates

SRV Cookbook

It has been almost 20 years since the last SRV Cookbook was published. So let’s do another one! The goal was to get it done this winter season, but with all that is going in our lives this season, it was decided to wait until next fall to finish it.

Let’s all dig out our tried and true recipes and share them with our Siesta friends and families.

You can email them to [email protected], bring me a written version (3015 San Jacinto) or mail them to my Siesta address (Unit 236)

My goal is to get 150 to 200 recipes, so don’t be afraid to send more than one or two. Send as many as you like.

This will be a fundraiser for the park and will be professionally printed.

Thank you! Jurene Gardner, Chairperson Siesta Fiesta: Breakfast Burrito To Go! Mark your calendar for our next SRV breakfast to go on Saturday, February 20.

You will get a large burrito filled with sausage, eggs, potatoes, green peppers, onions, and cheese. Sour cream, jalapeños and salsa will be on the side. You will also get a bowl of charro beans.

Tickets are only $5.00 per meal and are available pre-sale only on Monday, Feb. 8 and Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 10 AM until noon by the mailboxes Bueno Comida!!!

SIESTA RETIREMENT VILLAGE SOCIAL CLUB EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

January 18, 2021

President Rose Berns

1st Vice President Danny Silvers

2nd Vice President Kay Rodrigue - Absent Treasurer Bill Ackley

Secretary Linda Johnson

President Emeritus Kathy Moyna

Guests: Gayle Mead and Linda Boddy

Rose Berns called the meeting to order at 02:05 am on January 18th, 2021. Linda Johnson read the minutes from the January 7, 2021 meeting. Bill Ackley reported the results of the “Traveling Ice Cream” event chaired by the Keppys. The total was $159 (including tips) with a profit of $83.04. The board recognized Bob and Maureen for the great job they did with this event. Another Traveling Ice Cream event will be held again on the 13th of

February.

Gayle Mead requested a clarification of “Entertainment”, specifically asking if dances are included within the definition of the word Entertainment. Bill Ackley responded, “Yes, dancing is considered a form of entertainment.” Gayle also shared her concern regarding non compliance she and others have witnessed at some of our (SRV) outdoor entertainment activities. She informed the Board of lack of Social Distancing and not wearing masks by many of those who were present at these outdoor events. Kathy Moyna suggested the Board approach the chairpersons of any outdoor events, asking them to make an announcement before they start the entertainment reminding people attending to practice the Hildalgo County Pandemic Guidelines. This includes social

distancing, masks, handwashing, etc.

Gayle also encouraged the Board to prepare the 2021-2022 Social Calendar so she can start working on the entertainment scheduling. The Board reminded Gayle of the ever-changing Pandemic status making this an issue with the calendar during this difficult time. The board will be in contact with Gayle regarding the Calendar’s progress.

Linda Boddy volunteered to chair a Burrito Breakfast. Watch for more information in the Window Box Display at the mail box building & The Villager. This breakfast will be using the same format as the one we just had, pre-sales and time slots for drive up pick up.

Linda Boddy also presented an idea for a cash progressive card game to be played by residents of SRV. She passed out sheets describing the format of the game. The board asked a few questions regarding this activity and Linda said she would do some research and come back to the Board with more information so we know how to make a better decision whether this activity is something that we can pursue.

Both Gayle and Linda left the meeting at 03:20 pm. The meeting continued with Linda Johnson making a motion to continue cancelation of all outside activities (Including the Luau) through March, 2021. Bill Ackley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Jim Husnik is considering hosting a Meat Loaf Dinner on February 4th. Presale tickets would be on sale

January 25th & 26th.

Kathy told the Board that Linda Beebe is meeting with Shirley Steinmetz to discuss hosting a Lasagna Dinner for Valentines Day. The board will be notified of more information from Linda Beebe after she meets with Shirley. Due to February’s schedule being pretty filled up, the Board decided to move the Scavenger Hunt to March 3rd.

Andrea O’Keefe requested via email, approval for poker activity to resume. A motion was made by Bill Ackley to allow this activity as described in the email submitted by Andrea, providing the Hildalgo Pandemic Protocol Guidelines are followed. Danny Silvers seconded this motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Kay Rodrigue submitted a request for Rick Fox (The Starz) to perform February 5th, hosted by Kay and Bob

Rodrigue. It would be held outside of the Village Hall as in the past. Bill Ackley made a motion to approve this request. Linda Johnson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Meeting adjourned at 03:55 am.

Architectural Requests

ANY change made to the exterior of your home

or property requires Architectural Approval and a Permit. Forms are located in the office. Once filled out, two members of the Architectural Committee and a member of the Board of Directors must sign off on the request BEFORE work can begin. When approval has been given, a Permit will be issued and should be placed in a visible front window of your home. Any request that would require a variance of the SRV 9th Amended Covenants and Conditions must be taken to the full Corporate Board of Directors for approval.

Per SRV Covenants Article V.03: No structures of any kind, including MOBILE HOMES, may be commenced, erected or maintained upon the PROPERTIES, nor shall any exterior addition to, or change, or alteration therein be made until plans and specifications showing the nature, kind, shape, height, materials, color and location of the same shall have been submitted and approved in writing as to harmony of external design and location in relation to surrounding structures and

topography by the Architectural Committee. Contractors In The Village

Reminder to all residents having work done by a contractor. All contractors are expected to register with the SRV office PRIOR to performing any work within the Village. Contractor vehicles should all have a RED SRV CONTRACTOR PERMIT in their front window. If you notice a vehicle without this form, pleaseeither send them to the office or report them to the office. NO contractor vehicles should be left on SRV streets overnight.

Rentals

The Office is keeping a list of people who would like to be renters in the Park and also a list of Owners who have rentals available (or that will be available). If you own a rental and would like to be on the list given to potential renters, please contact the Office with your information. As people call inquiring about available rentals, they will be given your contact number. And if you would like the list of people interested so that you can contact them, also contact the Office.

If you have a renter or no longer want

potential renters to contact you, please contact the Office to remove your name from the owners list.

General Reminders

Post Office Box Procedures

It is important that everyone receive their mail in a timely manner and in the correct post office box. In order to assist this happening, and ensure that mail is not returned or put in the incorrect box, please follow these procedures: Residents

Each street address should have one mail box assigned by the Office. The Office should be notified of the following: - Any resident change in name,

- Any resident change of address especially within the park,

-

Any visitor that may receive mail.

The SRV office must be notified when residents return in the fall, leave in the spring, or have new people living in their home. Inaccurate information may result in mail being returned to sender. PLEASE make sure your Unit number is included in your address. Improperly addressed mail may also be returned to the sender. If you are going on a trip and wish to have your mail held, please contact the Weslaco Post Office at (956) 968-7412.

Renters

Renters shouldn’t be given mail box keys by the property owners. If the Office and/or Post Office is not notified of the renter information we do not know who is using the box and mail may be returned or misdirected. (We also put names on the boxes inside the mail building to help the USPS, if we do not know the name we cannot label the box.)

Renters need to contact the office and get their own mailbox. They should pick up the key from the Office and return it to the Office when they leave. This assists in the accurate tracking of empty boxes for reassignment. (If a renter returns to the same house annually, they can keep the same box, but need to notify the office.)

Blocks

If using a block in the box, allow enough time for the mail to be forwarded before placing the block and, when you return, remove the block as soon as the forward is requested. If mail is delivered and there is a block in the box the mail will be returned. The Office will be happy to assist with placing or removing blocks.

Key Return

Any time a box will no longer be used by the current resident, the key must be returned to the office (e.g. sale of house, renter leaving for the season, etc.). The Post Office will not make duplicate keys (and they can not be made elsewhere) nor will they retool the box for a new key. USPS Packages

Packages that are delivered to the Office by USPS (either because they are too large for the key boxes or the key boxes are full) will be available for pick up during office hours.
