Admissions

In order to enroll for any UNK course, you must be actively admit-ted to UNK. Applications for Admission (both undergraduate and graduate) are available online at unk.edu/admissions.

First-time students of UNK who enroll for classes will pay a non-refundable application fee of $45 prior to registration for any UNK class.

Undergraduate: (UG) students who have not enrolled at UNK for two years (since Spring 2014) must complete an application for readmission. Th ere is no readmission fee. For an online application, go to www.unk.edu/admissions/apply.php or call 1-800-532-7639 or 308-865-8526.

Graduate: (G) students who have not enrolled within the last two years, as well as those seeking admission to a second degree program, will need to reapply for admission and pay a readmission fee of $45. To apply, go to www.unk.edu/admissions/apply.php or call

1-800-717-7881 or 308-865-8500. Application deadlines for graduate degree seeking students are as follows unless stated diff erently by the department:

• June 15 for Fall admission; • October 15 for Spring admission; • March 15 for Summer admission.

Application deadlines for graduate non-degree seeking students is one week prior to term beginning.

International: For F-1 students enrolled in classes for credit or class-room hours, no more than the equivalent of one class or three credits per session, term, semester, trimester, or quarter may be counted toward the full course of study requirement if the class is taken online or through distance education and does not require the student’s physical attendance for classes, examination or other purposes inte-gral to completion of the class. An online or distance education course is a course that is off ered principally through the use of television, audio, or computer transmission including open broadcast, closed circuit, cable, microwave, or satellite, audio conferencing, or computer conferencing. If the F-1 student’s course of study is in a language study program, no online or distance education classes may be considered to count toward a student’s full course of study requirement. Non-U.S. citizens outside the U.S. are not held to this regulation and can enroll in more than 3 credit hours of online classes.

All undergraduate students are required to contact their academic advisors every semester prior to Early Registration. MyBLUE will NOT allow students to register for classes until they visit with their undergraduate advisor. Th e advisor will release an advising fl ag on MyBLUE once the advising session is complete. All undergraduate students, regardless of classifi cation, should contact an academic advisor to discuss course prerequisites, course off erings and their specifi c degree requirements prior to registration. If you do not contact your advisor, you will not be able to register during Early Registration.

Spring 2016 Early Registration Begins October 26

If you have been admitted to UNK, and know your NUID & password, follow the directions below:

Step 1: Use one of the supported browsers: Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 18.0.2+ or Safari 4.0.

Step 2: For registration times, go to http://myblue.unk.edu and choose Registration Appt Times.

Step 3: To access MyBLUE go to https://myblue.unk.edu, or go to the UNK home page at www.unk.edu and choose the “MyBLUE” link at the bottom of the page.

Step 4: Login with your NUID number and password. (You created these two identifi ers when you fi lled out your online admission form.)

Step 5: Once on your Student Center MyBLUE page: a) Find the Enrollment Section and select “Enroll”

b) Th e student will read a statement regarding their responsi- bility to pay for tuition & fees for the class they are about to register. Unless they follow proper procedures to drop or withdraw from the course, the student is obligated to pay their bill.

c) Click the continue button

d) Select a term (Spring 2016) then click continue e) Enter the class number (can be 4 or 5 digits) click enter f) Click the fi nishing enrollment button - look for a green check mark which will indicate successful enrollment.

Other options available on MyBLUE include grades, account balance, fi nancial aid, address information, degree audit, and transcripts. It is important to register early as classes fi ll up quickly. Students must be admitted to UNK before they can register. Students may register for any UNK class that has been offi cially added to the schedule and has a class number. A late fee of $15 will be assessed for any student who registers after the fi rst meeting day of the class in the summer or after the fi rst meeting week in the fall or spring.

Students will receive an email in their Lopermail Student Email Account notifying them when a bill is available. Th is email will direct you to log into MyBLUE to access your bill. Under Student Accounts choose “Billing Statements” and you will see all current and past billing statements.

due date, failure to receive a billing email notifi cation will

NOT be an acceptable excuse for missing the payment

dead-line. Also, students failing to attend class meetings does not

constitute withdrawal from the class and does NOT

elimi-nate the obligation to pay all tuition and related fees.

Important Credit Card Information

Th e ONLY means of paying student account charges (tuition, room & board, or other fees) with a credit card is online through MyBLUE. UNK will no longer accept credit card payments for student account charges in person, by mail, or by fax. Also, students choosing the credit card option of payment will be charged a 2.75% non-refund-able convenience fee based on the payment amount. MasterCard, Discover, American Express and VISA credit cards are acceptable for credit card payment.

If you wish to pay by credit card, follow the steps below: 1) sign-in on MyBLUE

2) enter your NUID Number 3) enter your Password

4) on the left menu under Student Accounts click on “Make a Payment”

UNK still off ers several easy payment options with no additional cost to you: An electronic check/ACH (automatic check handling) payment option through MyBLUE. Th is is an online request to debit your checking account or savings account.

By check or money order mailed to the University of Nebraska Kearney, Finance Offi ce/FDHL/Student Accounts, 2504 9th Avenue, Kearney, NE 68849.

New students attempting to enroll for courses may discover they are not able to register if the Pre-Enrollment Health Requirement form and documentation of immunizations have not been completed. However, if you are planning to take only online courses from UNK, this requirement is not necessary. Instead, please contact the UNK

Student ID Cards for Distance Students

As a Distance Education student, you can request a non-picture UNK Distance ID Card through eCampus. A $10 fee will be assessed per card. Th is card may be used as a second form of identifi cation. Distance students are not required to get a Distance ID card. If you are interested in getting the ID card, please contact Heather by email at [email protected] to have a form mailed to you. Include your mailing address and Student NUID number when requesting a form.

Business Administration

Th e Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) Online Degree Completion Program is ideal for working adults interested in skill and knowledge development as well as degree completion. Th is degree in business administration provides students with a solid foun-dation of the various aspects of businesses and an appreciation of how the integration of those functional areas impact organizational perfor-mance. Graduates of the BSBA Online Degree Completion Program earn a four-year degree in Business Administration from UNK. Gradu-ates of this program often fi nd positions in management, marketing, accounting, fi nance, economics, human resource management, information technology, and supply chain management. Th e UNK business programs are accredited by AACSB International, the highest standard of achievement of business schools worldwide. Th e BSBA program requires a total of 35 credit hours for the major plus comple-tion of a minor. Th e accounting minor (21 hrs.) and marketing/man-agement minor (24 hrs.) can be completed totally online. Core courses are off ered each semester, with minor courses off ered concurrently on a rotating basis. Refer to page 8 for a list of UNK online minors.

Prerequisite: Students need to complete 45 hours of general studies courses and 21 hours of 200-level business courses (macroeconomics, microeconomics, business communications, statistics, account ing I, accounting II and applied calculus) necessary for a Bachelor’s degreee independently. Criminal Justice

Th e online Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice is a degree com-pletion program designed for students who may already have earned an associate’s degree or who have completed the majority of their general education courses. Th is online program combines courses from the Kearney, Omaha, and Lincoln campuses, providing you with the best academic experience possible. Courses refl ect current trends in justice, and faculty have both practitioner and research expertise. A highlight of the degree program is the intensive internship that will provide hands-on experience in the fi eld. Th e internship is com-pleted at a location convenient to the student. Driver Education Endorsement (Blended)

Th e Driver Education Endorsement may be an addition to your Nebraska Teaching Certifi cate. Th is endorsement also provides the courses necessary for non-certifi ed teachers to be approved by the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. Students pursuing this certifi cation in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certifi cation requirements. Th e undergraduate course-work may be completed online while the lab component must be completed at the Nebraska Safety Center Driving Range in Kearney, Nebraska. Early Childhood and Family Advocacy

Th e Family Studies and the Early Childhood Education Programs at UNK have created a new undergraduate degree completion program, a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Family Advocacy. Th is program is designed to address the emerging needs in Nebraska and nationwide for professionals trained to work with children and fami-lies in non-teaching positions within formal public agency programs, private childcare centers, and early childhood education centers. While Early Childhood Education programs are plentiful and degrees are adequate to prepare preschool teachers, there are few programs that prepare Early Childhood Family Advocates - those within educational settings working with families and children in non-teach-ing positions. Family Advocates provide comprehensive educational and case management services to children and their families in their homes.

Th e Early Childhood Inclusive program is designed for in-service teachers, assistants in preschools, staff in HeadStart programs, and other non-traditional students who are unable to attend regular face-to-face classes at a university. Students pursuing certifi cation in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certifi cation requirements.

ECI BA degree - Students with an ECI BA degree will have the oppor-tunity to complete their Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Inclusive Teaching Endorsement (Birth through 3rd grade) while working in early childhood-related places of employment. Th is early childhood

degree prepares graduates to teach children ages 0-5 in special education settings and ages 0-8 in regular education settings. Th is is a degree completion program, which assumes that students will complete most of their general studies courses at a community college prior to transferring to UNK.

Pre-Speech Language Pathology Coursework

Th e online Pre-Speech Language Pathology (Pre-SLP) courses are designed to allow rural and non-traditional students the

opportunity to complete prerequisite undergraduate defi ciencies necessary to pursue a graduate degree in Communication Disorders. Specifi cally, the series of courses are intended for students from another discipline to prepare for entry into a Masters degree program in Speech-Language Pathology or a Doctoral degree program in Audiology. Secondary Education Concentration in English

Supplementary Endorsement

Th e online English as a Second Language (ESL) Supplementary Endorsement provides teachers with current approaches to teaching ESL students. Th e program focuses on instructional methods, curriculum, and teaching materials that promote the mastery of English in order for students to achieve academically in all content areas. All coursework is presented online. Th is program is a 24-credit hour graduate supplemental endorsement which can be applied towards a Master of Curriculum and Instruction degree. Th e ESL Supplementary Endorsement is approved by the Nebraska State Department of Education. Students pursuing certifi cation in other states must check with their State Department of Education for certifi cation requirements.

History

Th e master’s degree in history at UNK is designed for a wide variety of persons interested in pursuing graduate education in historical study. Th e program off ers credits for those just beginning a graduate career, teachers and others desiring further professional development, and those seeking greater personal fulfi llment. Two options are avail-able: thesis and non-thesis (for those interested in a terminal degree). Coursework for either option is off ered both on campus and online. Students may choose to take all their courses online, or on campus, or they may choose to blend these delivery methods together in one program. A focused, yet eclectic professional program, the history

master’s degree can launch a potential career in a number of promis-ing directions.

Information Technology Endorsement

Th e information technology track is designed for individuals who are interested in the computer science aspect of instructional technol-ogy. Th e track focuses on information technology teaching meth-odologies, programming techniques, and system administration skills. Th is track will provide a strong foundation for individuals who are working in the information technology areas related to schools, multimedia, web design specialists, and for individuals interested in more of a technology focus area of instruction. It is also designed for business professionals who train or support end users. For certifi ed teachers, this track will lead to a supplemental endorsement in Infor-mation Technology, which allows recipients to teach programming and web design courses in K-12 schools. For non-teachers, this track does not lead to the initial teaching certifi cate but it does allow for fl exibility in course selection and inclusion of additional computer science and information technology courses.

All the classes taken for the Information Technology track apply towards the Master of Science in Education in Instructional Technol-ogy degree.

(2) Th e Leadership in Instructional Technology Concentration is for those who are interested in pursu-ing a management and/or trainpursu-ing position in business or education. (3) Th e School Librarian Concentration focuses on developing school librarians with technological expertise. Th is concentration may lead to a PK-12 School Librarian Endorsement. (4) Th e Information Technol-ogy Concentration is designed for K-12 teachers who teach IT courses or provide IT support to their school district.

Th e Leadership in Instructional Technology track leads to a supple-mental endorsement for the Nebraska Department of Education. It is designed to provide administrative and leadership skills in the use of technology in school settings. In addition to developing instructional technology skills, the candidate will develop technology administra-tion abilities, manage professional development resources, and will be able to provide instructional technology leadership for his or her school building or district. MBA (Blended)

Th e University of Nebraska at Kearney has restructured its AACSB ac-credited MBA program (Generalist Track) by blending online classes with face-to-face class meetings to deliver an engaging, real world educational experience. Students get the best of both worlds - the fl exibility of online courses combined with the personal

attention, interactivity, and experiential learning of in-person delivery. With nearly 85% of the instruction off ered online, students are only required to attend face-to-face classes about 15% of the time. Seven classes are off ered totally online while four classes are off ered in a blended format (mostly online with 6 or less on-campus meetings). A typical semester may consist of one fully online class and one blended class.

Music Education

Th e Department of Music & Performing Arts off ers its graduate music program to serve three main purposes: 1)Provide music courses for those teachers who seek a Master of Arts in Education-Music Education degree program; 2) Make available a variety of courses for those students who do not wish to pursue an advanced degree, and 3) Provide experi-ences for graduate students which will serve their cultural and profes-sional needs. At least one music course will be available each fall and spring semester with three to four music courses off ered each summer. Several non-music courses are available each fall, spring and summer. Physical Education Master Teacher

Th e MAE in Physical Education Master Teacher is a 36 credit hour program designed for those teachers who prefer a broader understand-ing of pedagogical practices and a greater skillfulness in delivery of instruction including the ability to gather and use data to assess student learning and revise or design curriculum. With two tracks available, teachers have the option of choosing either the 1) Pedagogy Emphasis or 2) Special Populations Emphasis. Th e Pedagogy Emphasis provides graduates with advanced knowledge and competence in the teaching of physical education in elementary to post-secondary school settings. Th e Special Population Emphasis provides graduates with advanced
