Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in week eight of what has proven to be a successful start to the school year. It has been good to get back to some of our regular

activities and events. We were very happy to see families at our assemblies and our family Centre offering a range of programmes and activities including

playgroups, English Classes, Read Together family workshops and sewing.

We are committed to delivering high quality education and care to each student.

Working together with our families will give us the best chance of supporting our students and resolving any problems or issues that may arise.

If you have any concerns regarding your child’s learning or classroom routines, make a time to speak with your child’s teacher.

Parent/Teacher Interviews are a great opportunity to check on progress and set goals for the rest of the year. We will be holding interviews from the 29th of March to the 8th of April. Interview notes will be sent home with students over the next 2 weeks. Please contact your child’s teacher if you require a longer or different time to those offered.

If you are not satisfied after speaking with the teacher or your concerns are in regard to school processes, policies and procedures or about a particular member of staff you may choose to follow-up the complaint with me or another member of the leadership team. To do this, you can either write to us or phone the office to make a time to meet. The leadership team aims to respond to your concerns within two days and resolve your concern within 15 working days.

If you have a complaint about another student or family, contact a member of the leadership team. Please do not approach families and students.

If you believe your complaint or issue has still not been resolved then you may choose to contact the Customer Feedback Unit on 1800677435 for further information or advice.

NAPLAN

The NAPLAN tests are scheduled from Tuesday 11/5 until Friday 21/5. The NAPLAN tests are administered simultaneously to all years 3, 5 and 7 students across Australia.

Students are assessed in all areas of literacy and numeracy. The tests are another way of finding out what students can and cannot do, so that support can be provided. The NAPLAN student reports are expected to be ready for distribution to parents during term two.

If you are concerned about your child taking the tests please contact Leah Draper or myself.

Regards Carol Scerri Principal

In our class we have been learning how to write descriptions. Ms. Newband bought Gilda the flamingo into our class to help us with our writing.

We wrote sentences describing Gilda’s colour, size, shape, texture, doing and number. Here are some

examples of our work and illustrations of Gilda

3B started our year talking about how mathematics is all around us. We created our artwork to show

numbers that are important in our lives.

Please enjoy “Our lives in numbers”.

This term, 4/5s have been focussing on narrative writing. As part of our sentence writing, we looked at action and reaction sequences. We noticed that the picture book, “The Bear’s Lunch”, uses these sentences. We created

our own picture books and read them to our buddy class 1/2KH.

Friday morning is Kaleidoscope Playgroup in the Hub. We love to get outside and explore nature, as well as make craft, enjoy sensory

activities, and sing and read stories together. Recently we had a session all about bugs. The kids had a great time searching for bugs in

the garden, and looking at them closely through magnifying glasses.

It is wonderful to see children and parents from lots of different cultural backgrounds playing together and getting to know each other. We have

also started a new activity called Bi-Lingual Story Time. A parent reads a story in English and their first language, and we all get to share in the

richness of each other's cultures. All families with children 0-5 are

welcome to attend. We hope to see you soon!
