Raúl Castañón is a senior analyst on 451 Research’s Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with

the integration of Yankee Group. Castañón focuses on analyzing opportunities around mobile applications and their impact in the mobile ecosystem.

Before joining Yankee Group, Castañón was Product Manager at EMOSpeech, developing market analysis in the field of emotion recognition technology to identify strategic opportunities for product development. Prior to EMOSpeech, Castañón worked at Novell, developing product and partner strategy for endpoint management, collaboration and cloud-based enterprise software applications. At Comverse Network Systems, he gained significant experience in product marketing, working side by side with Tier 1 mobile operators to define strategy, pricing and business models for voice and data products.

Castañón holds a B.S. degree in marketing and business administration from ITESO University in Guadalajara, Mexico, and an M.B.A. degree from Duke University.

Chris Hazelton

Bio

Chris runs the Mobile and Wireless research practice, which covers hardware, software, and services for both enterprise and consumer mobility markets. Chris’ research focuses on enterprise mobility management supporting smartphones and tablets in business. He is primarily interested in the shift in enterprise

computing from desktop to mobile.

Prior to joining 451 Research, Chris covered worldwide smartphone trends for IDC. He focused on the convergence of mobile air interface technologies and advances in device component technologies which impacted the designs and capabilities of smartphones in both consumer and enterprise markets.

Chris has been quoted on mobile technology issues by publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, CBS, ComputerWorld, Fox Business, InformationWeek, Investors Business Daily, MacWorld, TheStreet, Reuters and Wired. He sits on the Editorial Advisory Board for Mobile Enterprise Magazine. Chris has presented and moderated panels at numerous events such as CES, CTIA, venture capital tech days, as well as serving as director for 451’s Client Conference.

Chris earned his MBA and MS in Information Systems from Boston University. During his graduate course work, Chris conducted market research for Lucent Technologies, leading a team in the development of a demand creation strategy for 3G data services. Chris also received a BS in business from University of Richmond with a concentration in finance.

Carl Howe is Vice President of Data Sciences for the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with the integration of Yankee Group. He also contributes to its research into mobile devices. In his Data Sciences role, Howe oversees all of the 451 Research Mobility team’s mobile technology monitoring, survey and forecasting products and has led its work in interactive data analysis and visualization.

In his research role, Howe examines and measures how mobile devices, networks and content transform the ways consumers live. His contributions include reports such as “Batteries: The Power of Mobility,” “Analyzing The Tablet Landscape,” “The Four Horsemen of the Mobility Revolution,” “The Forgotten Smartphone Apps” and “The Next Tipping Point: The Connected Experience.” Howe’s current research agenda includes research on the landscape and future of tablets, e-readers and smartphones as well as the evolution of ecosystems around these devices.

Before joining Yankee Group, Howe and Joe Butt co-founded Blackfriars Communications to advise companies in complex industries on how to distill, communicate and deliver their value. Blackfriars developed syndicated marketing research about marketing budgets, attitudes and spending as well as the Blackfriars Marketing Index, a publicly recognized gauge of marketing spending. While at Blackfriars, Howe also wrote the widely read blog Blackfriars Marketing and published financial research reports on Apple Inc. Prior to Blackfriars, Howe directed Forrester’s research in networking, computing and infrastructure, and was also a principal analyst. His research predicted the next wave of internet innovation in “The X Internet,” forecasted the impact of open source software in “Open Source Cracks The Code” and predicted the 2000 recession in the PC industry in his 1998 report, “PC Industry Roller Coaster.” Prior to Forrester, Howe spent 18 years at BBN Corporation, where he helped develop operating systems for some of the largest parallel processors in the world and researched wearable computers, desktop video conferencing and distributed systems. In addition, he helped firms including MasterCard, Wang and National Westminster Bank deploy early internets.

Howe has commented on technology in television venues ranging from Bloomberg Television to The Today Show to The CBS Evening News, and he has spoken at events in the U.S., Europe and Asia. He is also a regular commentator on trends in technology for Marketplace, All Things Considered and the San Francisco Chronicle, as well as for numerous other international and national publications. Howe was also named one of the top 20 most influential U.S. industry analysts in 2002 by Technology Marketing magazine.

Howe holds a S.B. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has served on the faculty of MIT and Wellesley College.

Before joining Yankee Group, Karpinski was editor-in-chief of Connected Planet (formerly Telephony), where he led a staff in covering the service provider market. He has spent a career covering high-tech markets – both telecom and enterprise IT – for publications including Interactive Age, Communications Week, Information Week and Network Computing, while also spending time on the “other side of the fence” working in marketing for supply chain software provider E2open and as an analyst for Net Market Makers. Karpinski holds a B.A. from the University of Illinois and an M.S. from Syracuse University.

She also assists vendors with custom research projects, messaging and positioning, as well as product road map evaluations. Kingstone researches and writes on the top trends in mobile marketing and commerce along with cross-channel customer experience technologies.

Kingstone is a well-known industry analyst in the CRM market, with more than 20 passionate years’ experience devoted to helping businesses eliminate customer frustration across sales, service and

marketing. She has extensive speaking experience at conferences and seminars, is quoted in many business and industry journals and provides notable consulting experience with Fortune 1000 companies. Before joining Yankee Group, she consulted with a number of enterprise software companies in the areas of B2B e-commerce, CRM, e-services and internet infrastructure on company and product positioning, acquisitions and IPO strategies for Blanc & Otus. Prior to this, she worked at DataMirror and Praxis International, launching new products in the enterprise data replication, transformation and database software market. As a recognized thought leader in the CRM space, Kingstone was awarded the 2006 CRM Influential Leaders Award and was also the first female to be inducted in the CRM Hall of Fame. Based in Dublin, Declan Lonergan is a vice president in charge of the Mobile Telecom channel for the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with the integration of Yankee Group. Lonergan produces and manages research that improves service providers’ and technology vendors’ business results. He helps clients make critical decisions regarding the deployment and marketing of innovative mobile services. Lonergan has almost 25 years of experience in the communications industry. He spent several years with BT, where he held management positions in radio systems procurement and access network planning. Lonergan is a respected influencer in the communications industry. He has produced several authoritative studies and managed high-profile consulting engagements on behalf of the world’s leading service providers and technology vendors. Lonergan is a regular speaker at the industry’s leading international conferences. Before joining Yankee Group, Lonergan was director of wireless research and consulting at Strategy Analytics. He has a BEng degree in electronic engineering, majoring in telecommunications, from the University of Limerick in Ireland, and an M.Sc. degree in strategic information systems management from Sheffield Business School in the U.K.

Chris Marsh is a principal analyst researching enterprise mobility. As part of the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with the integration of Yankee Group, Marsh focuses on analyzing the impact of mobile, social and cloud technologies on enterprise and service provider business models. Marsh is on the editorial advisory board and is a regular contributor to Mobile Enterprise Magazine, and is on the advisory board of the IQPC Enterprise Mobility Exchange conference events and of Enterprise Apps World. He has presented at numerous conferences in these capacities.

Before joining Yankee Group, Marsh was a research manager in Nokia’s Global Consumer Analytics and Insights function, analyzing changes in the mobility landscape with a focus on identifying early indicators of changes in consumer behavior. These insights fed into front-end strategy by outlining strategic opportunities for brand and product developments.

Marsh holds an M.A. in International Relations from St. Andrews University and an MRes (Masters in Research) from King’s College London.

Associate Analyst Ryan Martin’s research for the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with the integration of Yankee Group, focuses on machine-to-machine (M2M) and emerging technologies including connected cars, wearable devices, usage-based insurance (UBI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Prior to joining Yankee Group, Martin served as a consultant at Mobile Future Institute, a U.S.-based think tank focused on business strategies and marketing tactics for the mobile ecosystem. Before Mobile Future Institute, he held advisory, consultative and managerial positions at a number of early- to late-stage startups.

Martin holds degrees in Economics and Political Science from the University of Vermont and an M.B.A. from the University of New Hampshire.

Jordan McKee

In addition, he has spoken at several leading payments industry events, including The Mobile Payments Conference, First Data Leadership Summit and The Financial Mobility Summit. Before Yankee Group, McKee served as a market research analyst at OnProcess Technology, performing statistical analysis and process improvement for leading technology and communications companies in the areas of reverse logistics, service supply chain optimization and customer experience management. McKee holds a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in marketing from Bryant University.

Boris Metodiev

Boris Metodiev is a senior analyst on the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014

with the integration of Yankee Group, responsible for mobile and connected devices. His areas of expertise include mobile devices, smartphones, handsets, e-readers, tablets and connected consumer electronics. Metodiev focuses primarily on mobile vendor strategies, mobile OS and ecosystems, and device patents licensing and litigation.

Prior to joining the research team, Metodiev served as a product development manager of Yankee Group’s Forecasts and Monitors. He built Yankee Group’s quantitative database structure and Excel tools for its data products. He also led and developed many of the publication processes used to publish Yankee Group’s 3.2 million data points each quarter, which provide consistent product creation, streamlined editorial process and fast go-to-market capability.

Metodiev joined Yankee Group in September 2003 doing data research for the Telecommunication Strategies Europe and Broadband & Media Europe Decision Services. Before joining Yankee Group, he worked as an intern at Merrill Lynch London.

Metodiev holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in economics and finance from Huron University USA in London.

As a researcher he leads the team’s M2M/IoT research while contributing to a number of additional topics in the telecom and enterprise mobility domains.

Prior to joining Yankee Group, Partridge held various senior-level marketing and sales roles at leading technology vendors such as ReefEdge Networks, 3Com, Enterasys Networks and Cabletron Systems.

Partridge holds a B.S. degree in business administration from the University of New Hampshire and an M.B.A. degree from Plymouth State University.

Jennifer Pigg Clark is a vice president of research within the 451 Research Mobility team’s Mobile Telecom channel. Her area of expertise for the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with the integration of Yankee Group, is network carrier infrastructure, examining the challenges facing service providers in provisioning the edge and core network, and the solutions and technology that will meet the demands of cloud computing, Web 2.0 mobile data networking and LTE. Her areas of research include Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), network policy management, Diameter Routing, IPv6, DNS, mobile backhaul and the Evolved Packet Core.

Prior to joining Yankee Group, Pigg Clark was manager of network planning and strategy for Wang Laboratories’ corporate data network. She began her career at Wang with responsibility for the domestic and international rollout of Wang’s packet network, connecting more than 250 locations in 14 countries. Before joining Wang, she was a member of the IT research and development division of Commercial Union Insurance Companies.

Pigg Clark is a highly regarded speaker at industry seminars and conferences, and is frequently cited by the commercial and trade press. She has been a guest lecturer at the MIT Sloan School of Management. She is a member of the IEEE and holds a B.A. degree from Mount Holyoke College.

Ken Rehbehn is a principal analyst within the Mobile Telecom channel for the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with the integration of Yankee Group. As a mobile wireless infrastructure analyst, Rehbehn tracks radio access network (RAN) technology solutions operators deploy to deliver value to consumers, enterprises and government. With over 30 years of experience in the field, Rehbehn provides insight into mobile radio access network (RAN) and core network trends including HSPA, LTE, small cells, operator Wi-Fi and voice over LTE (VoLTE). In addition, with more than 40 years of experience in the fire and rescue service, Rehbehn is an expert in public safety mobile broadband communications requirements and solutions.

Before joining Yankee Group, Rehbehn served as a strategic marketing director for Alcatel-Lucent and as a wireless infrastructure analyst at Current Analysis. Prior to joining Current Analysis, Rehbehn served as director of product management at Megisto Systems, Inc., a startup equipment vendor producing next-generation data gateway solutions for GSM and UMTS networks. At Megisto, he led the product management staff to define the product and provide support for the sales staff in the field. Before that, Rehbehn worked at Visual Networks as an ATM product line manager as well as a member of the CTO’s staff. In addition to Visual Networks, his professional career has included software development and architectural design for X.25 packet switching, frame relay, and network management technologies while at GTE Telenet, Sprint and Netrix. Rehbehn has served as the editor of several Frame Relay Forum Implementation Agreements and IETF standards track RFCs, and he holds a patent for Frame Relay and ATM service management mechanisms. Beyond his work tracking an evolving mobile infrastructure market, Rehbehn serves as a volunteer fire fighter in Montgomery County, Maryland. He publishes in leading industry publications, serves as a judge for leading technology award programs (Mobile World Congress Awards, Small Cell Forum Awards, Wireless Broadband Alliance Awards) and frequently speaks at industry conferences as well as vendor and operator briefings. In addition to publishing opinions on trends and the competitive positions of vendors supplying solutions, Rehbehn provides consulting and training to operators, vendors and enterprises. Wally Swain is a senior vice president focusing on emerging markets. As part of the 451 Research Mobility team, which was established in July 2014 with the integration of Yankee Group, Swain contributes research and consulting deliverables related to both fixed and wireless telecommunications markets. Based in Bogotá, Colombia, he maintains continuous contact with the various global players to produce his analysis, demand modeling and forecasting and market reports. Swain’s expertise includes mobile telecommunications operations, M&A due diligence, strategic planning and organization design, alliance management, financial information for management and costing and statistics modeling. Beyond Latin America, Swain has worked on strategic consulting projects in Bangladesh, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Vietnam.

Prior to Yankee Group, Swain joined Focus Ltda. as a partner in January 2002, after ending his term as CEO of Comcel S.A., the dominant cellular provider in Colombia. During his tenure, Comcel increased yearly revenue by 35 percent, increased its subscriber base by 84 percent and decreased headcount by 20 percent. In addition, Swain oversaw the successful transition of company policies and procedures to reflect the business model of the new shareholder group, America Movil. Prior to his CEO position, he was COO of Comcel from August 1998 through November 2000. During this period, Swain managed operations through Colombia’s worst recession in 67 years, eventually delivering savings that pushed EBITDA margins to their highest level yet (from 26 percent in 1998 to 29 percent in 2000). Before joining Comcel, he worked for more than 20 years in several different positions within the Bell Canada organization. Swain’s previous work included positions in the office of the president, financial modeling, strategic and corporate planning, and gateways. He is the chairman of the board of the Colombia-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. He is also a mentor in Endeavor Colombia.

Swain holds an honors undergraduate degree and an M.A. degree in mathematics (statistics) from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. He speaks English and Spanish fluently, and comprehends French and Portuguese.
