- TOGETHER IN FAITH -
From Fr. Von’s Desk
In our second reading at Mass today, we continue to hear from the Letter to the Hebrews about Jesus as our high priest. A priest is one who offers sacri- fice to God. Jesus, our Priest, offered himself as a Victim to God the Father to reconcile us to God. Jesus made this one sacrifice on the cross. This one sacri- fice is made present in the Mass. Here is what we read in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
1364 … When the Church celebrates the Eucharist, she commemorates Christ's Passover, and it is made present: the sacrifice Christ offered once for all on the cross remains ever present. "As often as the sacrifice of the Cross by which 'Christ our Pasch has been sacrificed' is celebrated on the altar, the work of our redemption is carried out." (Vatican-2, 1964)
1365 Because it is the memorial of Christ's Passover, the Eucharist is also a sac- rifice. The sacrificial character of the Eucharist is manifested in the very words of institution: "This is my body which is given for you" and "This cup which is poured out for you is the New Covenant in my blood." (Luke 22:19-20) In the Eucharist Christ gives us the very body which he gave up for us on the cross, the very blood which he "poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." (Matthew 26:28)
1366 The Eucharist is thus a sacrifice because it re-presents (makes present) the sacrifice of the cross, because it is its memorial and because it applies its fruit:
“[Christ], our Lord and God, was once and for all to offer himself to God the Fa- ther by his death on the altar of the cross, to accomplish there an everlasting re- demption. But because his priesthood was not to end with his death, at the Last Supper "on the night when he was betrayed," [he wanted] to leave to his beloved spouse the Church a visible sacrifice (as the nature of man demands) by which the bloody sacrifice which he was to accomplish once for all on the cross would be re-presented, its memory perpetuated until the end of the world, and its salu- tary power be applied to the forgiveness of the sins we daily commit.” (Catechism of the Council of Trent, 1566)
We thank our Lord Jesus for sacrificing his life for us and making that one sacrifice present to us and to God the Father in each Mass.
—Fr. Von Deeke

Stewardship Gardens
by Gene RachoSeason coming to close. Total output for last two harvest days only 102 pounds. Only 31 pounds of tomatoes vs more than 100 pounds only a few weeks ago. Beans down to 14 pounds. Some turnips and greens remain. Bean vines are loaded with blooms.
Don't think there will be enough warm days left for beans to ma- ture. Same for peppers as well. Made last delivery to families/
individuals. Expect next harvest day will be the last to the food banks. Clean up has begun, even before the frost. Most of the tomato vines pulled up. Still planning for expansion next year. We trust our LORD will provide the help needed to make it bear good fruit. If you would like to volunteer, have questions or to contact us for any reason, garden or otherwise: Email: [email protected] or call the parish office and we will get back to you.
Tomorrow at the 7 PM Mass, the consecration of individuals to St.
Joseph will be held. During the 30 days leading up to this event, much was learned about St Joseph that we as Catholics didn't know, especially about how he is a true model for stewardship for fathers. If you weren't able to attend and would like to learn more, perhaps a repeat of the sessions can be arranged. Recall what we have been taught: put GOD first; be Catholic; reflect the light of our Lord to all those you encounter. We pray that God bless you and prosper all you do in His name.
Vocation Corner
“National Vocation Awareness Week, celebrated November 7-13, 2021 is an annual week-long celebration of the Catholic Church in the United States dedicated to promote vocations to the priest- hood, diaconate and consecrated life through prayer and educa- tion, and to renew our prayers and support for those who are con- sidering one of these particular vocations.”
United States Council of Catholic Bishops website
Bible Study
Today the group is holding the wrap up session of the 33 day study in preparation for consecration to St Joseph tomorrow (Monday) evening at the 7 PM Mass. The session will include a quick review of material covered, a discussion period, and thoughts for what to do moving forward. So much was learned about him that has direct application to our lives today. Those at- tending the weekly sessions with Fr Von and those interested in learning more about St Joseph are invited to attend. If there is enough interest, perhaps a repeat of the sessions can be ar- ranged. Coffee and goodies will be available. You can find the group after the 8:00 AM Mass in room 10 (2nd floor) of the school.
GOD bless, open your eyes and heart to HIS word and keep you safe.
Thirty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
What Matters the Most to God? The answer is simple: love God and love your neighbor as yourself. The practice is harder. Recall the Good Samaritan who cares for the beaten man on the roadside (Luke 10:29-37). A neighbor is not just a friend or relative or part of the tribe. A neighbor is anyone. We are to love everyone. That kind of loving keeps us near the Kingdom of God.
• What of my actions show that I am loving God?
• What of my actions show that I am loving myself?
• What of my actions show that I am loving my neighbor, that is, everyone?

Call to Action
The Illinois General Assembly is going to vote this week on an attempt to repeal the Parental Notice of Abortion Act. Please con- tact your legislator and ask them to oppose House Bill 370 Senate Amendment 1.
It should be noted that the existing law does not call for parental consent and offers exemptions, including when a girl states in writ- ing that she is a victim of sexual abuse, neglect or physical abuse by an adult family member.

From the Principal’s Desk
This past week was filled with lots of exciting days. Our students cele- brated Red Ribbon Week by saying "no to drugs" with a different themed dress day throughout the week. On Wednesday our lower grades celebrated our 50th day of school with a 50's themed day. We wrapped up the week with our Fall Festival and early dismissal on Thursday. The Fall Festival was filled with games, good eats, and
games. We would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Braeutigam's Orchards and Eckerts for providing pumpkins, apples, and apple cider. We would also like to THANK the many parents who volunteered to help make this event a fun time for all!
