- TOGETHER IN FAITH -

This past week was teacher appreciation week and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank

the St. Joseph’s School Teachers for all the hard work they put in this past year

which was full of many challenges and changes.

We merged our schools, our students, our teachers, and our parents.

We welcomed our new pastor and new principal on the first day of school. Our students continued to receive an excellent education amidst the ongoing challenges of COVID restrictions because our dedicated teachers taught both in class and virtually to accommodate all families. We were able to open our church for students, because our teachers offered to sanitize the church after weekday Masses.

When you see one of our teachers please be sure to

thank them for all the work they put in this year!

- 6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER -

Vocation Corner

Mothers’ Day – what a wonderful commemoration of one of the greatest vocations there is. We are inspired by the example of Mary, the Mother of God, to live by the words from the Cana feast

“Do whatever He tells you”. We pray for all our Mothers today and for the families they form, nurture and love. We also ponder our own “FIAT” – our surrendering to God’s plan for us.

6th Sunday of Easter

Love, Love, Love. “Love” or “loved” is spoken seventeen times in the Bible readings today. Not a mushy Hallmark movie kind of love. But the love God has for us. The love we have for God and Christ. The love, therefore, we must have for everyone

else. Strong, bold, lasting.

How do I know I am loved? Let me count the persons and ways?

How will I love those who are near?

How will I love everyone else?

Gibault Catholic

Prayer Garden Project

Gibault Sophomore Jacob Durrer (Sts. Peter & Paul Parish) is working on his Eagle Scout project, a Prayer Garden on the Gibault grounds. You can be part of this project by purchasing an engraved brick that will be placed in the cross-shaped patio he is constructing. ers. You will find live call-in shows, question and answer programs about Catholic teaching, music, as well as faith- nourishing pro- grams on Scripture, saints, and Church history. You can listen on the radio, the Covenant Network app on your phone or on our web- site OurCatholicRadio.org. Tune in on AM 1080 or 92.7 FM and find out how Catholic radio will change your life

Respect Life

“Get up, I myself am also a human being.” In the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Chapter 10) Peter meets Cornelius at his house and Cornelius immediately falls to his feet to honor Peter, but he is told to literally ‘get up, I am no different than you,’

Then Peter delivers the big news, that Jesus shows no partiality in salvation and that all of us can be saved! This astounded the crowd , especially as Peter began to baptize them into new life in the name of Jesus Christ.

Stewardship Gardens

by Gene Racho

As this is written (May 3rd) weather will determine when plants get into the ground. Rain is forecast throughout the week and the plants are ready to go. You gardeners and farmers know the story.

A total of 909 plants have to be planted: 183 peppers, 222 toma- toes, 54 eggplants, 22 Zucchini and 450 mixed greens. Next, seeds for beans, cucumbers, okra, carrots and a few other misc.

veggies. With the expanded garden the team can also use a few more hands to help out. Interested? Perhaps you know someone who might be. Let us know. Questions or comments? Email:

[email protected] or call the parish office and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Another question for the Confirmation Team. Actually, a multi-part question: a. If someone sees you and does not know you, who would they say you are? b. Who do your friends say you are? c.

Who do you say you are. Not a trick question. Another one: did you pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy alone or with your family?

When you meet our Lord, how would you feel meeting the souls that are there because of you? How would you respond to a soul telling you that they would not be in Heaven if it wasn't for you.

What is great is that you can start now. How about praying togeth- er with your team; maybe at a certain time. Gathering in one spot not required, start praying at the same time. Ask if you don't have a Chaplet guide. Another thought. Read last weeks Gospel (Jn15:1- 8) It speaks of Christ being the vine and we are its branches and that to continue to bear good fruit we must be pruned. What is

“pruned”? Those things that keep us from being attached to the true vine, Jesus. What are you attached to? Material things, activi- ties, wealth, being acclaimed?. How about thoughts, words, deeds that keep you from being in Christ? Our sins. Something not initial- ly obvious: how do we handle suffering? Complain, blame, anger or do we ask our Lord how to use this suffering as a blessing to help us grow and to help others. Pruning is difficult as it separates us from something we may like or forces us to face something we don't want to. Have a blessed week. Recall what we have been taught: Put GOD first; be Catholic. Reflect the light of our Lord to all those you encounter. We pray God bless you and prosper all you do in His name.

Catholic Communications Campaign

Next week our special collection supports the Catholic Communi- cation Campaign. This campaign connects people with Christ and builds Catholic communities in the United States and developing countries using the internet, television, radio, and print media. Half of the money collected remains here in our Belleville Diocese to fund local communications efforts. Your support helps spread the Gospel message! To learn more, visit www.usccb.org/ccc.

Learn, Act, Connect, and Pray

Through our faith, we know that we can never repay what we owe to our Father, but the seeds we plant today through our good works in love and obedience will bear fruit tomorrow. Our efforts are never wasted. May we too fall to our knees in gratitude of Christ who came for all mankind. As Bishop Kenneth Untener reminds us, “We are prophets of a future that is not our own.”

Bible Study

The 1st (Acts10:25-26' 34-35,44-48), and 2nd ((1Jn4:7-10) readings are wonderfully linked by the Psalm (Ps98:1-4) All link the love of God towards all nations through the Jewish peo- ple. The Jews felt that by being God's “chosen people” they alone were special to God.

They did not remember that God promised Abraham, in addition to being the father of na- tions, all the nations (Gen17:4-6) would be blessed through him (Gen12:2-3). At the time, a Jewish person entering a gentile home would become unclean so Peter's entering Cor- nelius' home was unexpected. It was at the direction of the Holy Spirit he went. This ex- plained the dream he received (Acts 10:15) During the gathering the Holy Spirit came upon Cornelius and his family. This astounded the Jewish followers of Christ; that Gentiles could also be baptized and receive the blessings as they did. The Psalm says it all in the re- sponse: The Lord has revealed to the nations His saving power. Thus His promise to Abra- ham was fulfilled. The 2nd reading explains the why this happened: because God loves all His creation and so sent His only Son so that all might have eternal life through Him. Note the use of the word “might”. Some may choose to “opt out” of that gift. It is our choice. God bless, open your eyes and heart, and keep you safe.
