Chocolate is Good for You! Culinary Youth Camp

Learn the secret to layer, ice and glaze a cake evenly and smoothly (like a pro) while practicing piping skills. Practice making yummy chocolate pastry cream, melt-in-your-mouth éclairs and cream puffs, truffles and more. Learn and practice important kitchen safety and sanitation rules, teamwork, timing and efficiency in the kitchen. Discover creative plating and presentation skills for the special buffet event for guests on the last day (11:30am-12:30). Your camp registration fees include a junior chef prep kit, chef hat, Cascade Culinary Institute chef coat and YouthCamp@COCC t-shirt. For students ages 10-14.

Pizza Party! Culinary Youth Camp

Who doesn't love pizza? It's even better made at home from scratch using fresh ingredients! Take a guided tour through each step of the pizza making process from the cheese to the toppings to the crust. Create

mouthwatering one-of-a-kind pizza that will be shared at a special luncheon presentation for guests on the last day (4:00pm-5:00). Kitchen skills including safety, time management, organization and more will be emphasized. App Attack! Make Your First Game App Youth Camp

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app & game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of app publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Minecraft Designers Youth Camp

If you love the game Minecraft, but always wanted to design your own characters and buildings for your games this class is for you! Learn the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design your very own objects, create skins for characters, and import them into your favorite Minecraft games. To access their project at home, students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. A parent email address is required to use 3D modeling software. Students will work in teams for most of the program. Your camp registration fees include a flash drive and YouthCamp@COCC t-shirt. Hang out with friends, have fun, and learn key S.T.E.M. skills in this one of a kind class! Candy Crush, Facebook, and Instagram were all built by people who understand the foundations of design and technology. In this class, learn the basic elements of 2D Game Design. Each day will have a tech challenge and a profile of the female stars of the tech world. Student games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers; Mac versions can be created after the program for a $15.00 conversion fee. Students will work in teams for most of the program. Make Your First Video Game Youth Camp

If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner Culinary Youth Camp

We have three opportunities each day to prepare a healthy and delicious meal, so that's three opportunities to step up and help out in the kitchen. The breakfast, lunch and dinner camp teaches advanced beginner to intermediate cooking techniques through demonstrations and hands-on activities. Prepare multiple menu items each day while practicing knife skills and safe food handling procedures. Create culinary delights that will be shared at a special celebration buffet for guests on the last day (11:30am-12:30). Aviation Exploration Youth Camp

Fascinated by airplanes or dream of becoming a pilot? Students will explore various aircraft and learn how they fly, understand how weather affects flying, and discover careers in aviation. Take a field trip to the airport which includes hands-on experience in helicopter and airplane simulators (Thursday, 9:00am-3:00). Video Game Animation Youth Camp

Take your game design to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in future games. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Student-created animations will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. I Like Pie! Baking & Pastry Culinary Youth Camp

Making a flaky pie crust, the foundation of a great pie, takes practice and guidance from a pro. Learn the secrets of creating a tender crust, as well as a sweet cookie shell for cream pies. Become a pastry artist, as you learn to roll out a pie shell and finish the edges in a decorative style. Find out how to finish your masterpieces with a lattice top and a crumble topping. But the best part of the pie is the filling. Apple, stone fruit, lemon and berry, as well as pastry cream whipped into chocolate or banana cream... many choices to try! Finally, discover the finest secret of all - meringue to top a lemon pie. Learn and practice important kitchen safety and sanitation rules, teamwork, timing and efficiency in the kitchen. 3D Video Game Design Youth Camp

Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! By popular demand, we redesigned our 3D game design class from beginning to end. This new class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Calling all future coders, programmers, & designers! Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS through a series of web projects and design challenges each day and be on your way to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or the high school student who just made $1 million dollars for programming in his bedroom, this course has the essentials you need to begin your journey. Projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mod! 3D Masters Youth Camp

Calling all boys and girls who want to be the designers of the future! In this class, if you can dream it you can make it. Create your first action figure, design custom jewelry, or make a new toy! Using a professional-level modeling software, kids will sculpt, texture, and render their own 3D creation. No prior experience is necessary and 3D designs will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. 3D prints are not included, but can be purchased separately through a 3rd party company.
