CONCLUSIONS, IMPLICATIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter presents conclusion of the research, implication and suggestions. This part can be categorized as the last chapter.

A. Conclusion

According to needs analysis data, learners need to know more about how writing a good recount and narrative text, vocabulary, word pronunciation, grammar and others cultures. Also, based on results of evaluation toward writing production, it can be concluded that the writing learning materials could cover the learners’ needs and their learning styles. In evaluation result, the writing learning materials are appropriate for class X Science 5. Also, it shows that the materials can help learners to write a recount and narrative text. The details of explanation above are presented in below:

1. Target Need

It was found that the purpose of learning English of grade ten science 5 at SMA Negeri 1 Nganjuk was to support their future career and education. They wanted to use their English skill to get scholarship, studying abroad or as a communication between their business colleagues. The learners also believed that they were weak in writing and speaking skill. They wanted to be able to write a properly or communicate fluently using English. The findings also show that they

143 wanted to enrich the vocabulary items which are able to be used in daily activities.

2. Learning Need

The learners needed the topics for learning English related to recount and narrative text. The activity for listening session was to complete the song lyric. For speaking session, the activity was discussion in certain topic and listing of new vocabulary with the meanings and phonetic transcription with the group. The activity for reading session was to put a word in right order of sentences and understand a text by group discussion. For writing session, the activity was arranging jumbled sentences into a good paragraph and collecting the main ideas by main mapping. Also, the learners wanted to carry out the tasks/activity by both individual work and group discussions.

3. Learning Materials

A good learning material should consider the appropriate of content, language, and material presentation. The conclusion of the learning materials was presented in below:

a) The content in learning materials

1) The learning materials are made based on learner’s core competency curriculum K-13 and learner’s interest.

144 3) The learning materials provide tasks which persuaded the learners’ interaction and participation in teaching learning process in individual work or group work.

4) The learning material assists the learners to distinguish their success and failure after the learning process.

b) The language in learning materials

1) The learning materials encourage the learners to use target language (English) by pronounce the words correctly.

2) The learning materials language is presented simple and understandable by the learners.

3) The learning materials have clear instruction to help the learners to fulfill all of the tasks.

4) The learning materials contains grammar exercise and vocabulary corner at an exact level of high school learners.

c) The material presentation

1) The learning materials parts are divided into 7 section i.e Introduction of Unit, Brainstorming, Building context, Lead in, Main Activities, Exercise, Assignment, and Reflection.

2) There are 3 learning activities to accommodate learners learning style for each parts of learning materials.

3) The learning materials are included interesting videos, audio the songs, and colorful pictures to attract the learner attention to learn English.

145 B. Implication

Based on the results, the materials are appropriate for Grade X Science 5 SMA Negeri 1 Nganjuk. According to the result, the materials can help the learners to write recount and narrative text better. The results show that the principles of writing process and the approach in teaching writing which are used in this research were successful in outcome by using the principles of writing process was suggested by Harmer (2007). The learners can write the text by using their different perceptive and using mind-mapping in connecting what they read into their writing.

The approaches in teaching writing which are used in this research were proposed by Firkins, Forey, and Sengupta (2007). The modeling text approaches were used as brainstorming, introduction of topic and establishing background knowledge for the learners by deconstructing the text, learn the vocabulary usage and grammatical structural patterns. The joint construction approaches were used in the learners personal experience discussion, analyzes, and constructs the text for learners by using guided writing. Independent construction approaches were used in drafting, review, and editing the text that the learners produced by using controlled writing. Also, the results show that the design of the writing learning materials which are used in this research were successful in outcome by using the design of activities in the learning materials was a process-oriented offered by Hyland (2003). This design helped the learners to adapt their different proficiency level through group work and cooperation among

146 learners. According to Hyland (2003) purposes that the aim of process-oriented is able to be adapted on learner different proficiency levels.

C. Suggestion 1. For the teacher

English teachers should take a try to develop English their own learning materials according learners needs and their learning style. They are also suggested to develop learning materials which have the appropriate material presentation design as presented in the research finding.

2. For the other Researcher

This research only focuses on developing the English learning materials for the grade ten learners of Science program at SMA Negeri 1 Nganjuk. Other researchers are expected to be able to develop English learning materials for other study program which have the problems with the availability of appropriate English learning materials based on the learners learning styles. They are also expected to find the other characteristics of appropriate learning materials based on the needs of the learners.
