STL FLY: The St. Louis Cardinals continue a six-game road trip to Atlanta (June 17-20) and Detroit (June 22-23) with an open date in the Motor City on Monday.

The club is currently 3-1 on a stretch of 20 consecutive games against oppo- nents with sub-.500 records (June 14-July 4)...St. Louis enters today in 4th place in the National League Central, 4.0 games behind Chicago. St. Louis last won a road game at Dodger Stadium on June 1, a 3-2 last at-bat win.

HURLING HEROES: Since last Sunday, the Cardinals pitching staff has post- ed the second-lowest ERA in Major League Baseball at 1.88, trailing only the Washington Nationals (1.80). The bullpen has only allowed one run, coming last night, over their last five games and 12.1 innings pitched. Their 0.77 ERA (0.77) is second only to the New York Yankees (0.69) relievers, while earning all three wins this week.

ZEREOED IN: The Cardinals pitching staff has fired eight shutouts this season, 2nd in Major League Baseball only to the San Francisco Giants. The eight shut- outs in their first 69 games is the 9th-most in club history and most since the 2014 club had 14 shutouts in their first 69 games, the most in club history.

NO WADE-ING AROUND: Yesterday, the Cardinals signed LHP Wade LeBlanc and immediately pressed the 36-year old southpaw into action. LeBlanc, who was making his first Major League appearance since April 24, 2021, at Oakland while with Baltimore, recorded one out, retiring Ozzie Albies on a foul out after surrendering a double to Freddie Freeman.

“BENCH”-MARK: With his next hit, Yadier Molina (2,047) will tie Johnny Bench for 8th place in career hits by a catcher with 2,048. Gary Carter sits in 7th place on the list with 2,092.

WE’RE KIND OF A BIG DEAL: Tonight starts a series of three games televised nationally between the Cardinals and Braves. Bally Sports Midwest will televise tonight with MLB Network’s Showcase Game, FOX Saturday Baseball will tele- vise tomorrow night and ESPN Sunday Night Baseball will conclude the weekend series. The Sunday Night Game of the Week is the Cardinals 4th of the season and 2nd time on consecutive weeks (May 16 at SD & May 23 vs. CHI - June 13 at CHI & June 20 at ATL).

HIT ME: Dylan Carlson and Matt Carpenter were hit by pitch last night, marking the 9th time this season the Cardinals have had multiple batters hit by pitch.

Only the Dodgers (12), Reds (11, 3x by St. Louis) and Brewers (10, 4x by Chi- cago) have had more games in which they had batters hit by pitch multiple times. However, the Cardinals have yet to have any batter hit twice in a game this season.

GET AHEAD, STAY AHEAD: Tonight’s starting pitcher Carlos Martínez has not allowed a home run on a two-strike count this season and is one of five pitchers who have recorded 100 at-bats or more (117) without allowing a two-strike home run along with Kevin Guasman (SF, 176), Ian Anderson (ATL, 150), Jack Flaherty (STL, 135), and Jon Gray (COL, 109). Martínez has only allowed two two-strike home runs since the start of 2018, the only pitcher who has pitched all four seasons and started a game with that few two-strike home runs (min.

of 300 batters).

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS: The Cardinals are 9-6 (.600) in one-run games this sea- son, the 2nd-best winning percentage in the nail biters in the National League, trailing only the Cincinnati Reds (11-6, .647). St. Louis was the last team in MLB to play a one-run game, coming in game No. 17 at Washington.

BACK HOME IN OMAHA: With the College World Series starting tomorrow, the St. Louis Cardinals have a lot of interested parties in their alma maters playing in the series: North Carolina State (Andrew Knizner), Stanford (Tommy Edman), Mississippi State (Dakota Hudson, Injured List), Arizona (President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak) and Virginia (Cardinals broadcaster and former pitcher Ricky Horton).
