Elmhurst Community Prep

Every school in California is required by st at e law t o publish a School Account abilit y Report Card (SARC), by February 1 of each year. T he SARC cont ains informat ion about t he condit ion and performance of each California public school. Under t he Local Cont rol Funding Formula (LCFF) all local educat ional agencies (LEAs) are required t o prepare a Local Cont rol Account abilit y Plan (LCAP), w hich describes how t hey int end t o meet annual school-specific goals for all pupils, w it h specific act ivit ies t o address st at e and local priorit ies. Elmhurst Communit y Prep w as founded in 2006 as part of Oakland Unified’s small aut onomous schools movement . Locat ed on 98t h Avenue in Deep East Oakland, ECP serves 380; 58% Lat ino, 32% African America, and 5%Pacific Islander st udent s in grades 6 t hrough 8. W e believe a qualit y school must support st udent s bot h emot ionally and academically and w e are commit t ed t o do bot h at high levels. W e seek t o engage st udent s in rigorous academics and high-qualit y enrichment act ivit ies t hat prepare st udent s for college and career.

ECP’s Family Resource Cent er, locat ed in Room 27, helps families connect w it h t he school around t he academic support and achievement of our children. At t he beginning of t he year, every parent is invit ed t o a pot luck w it h t heir child’s advisor so t hat advisors can connect w it h families. In addit ion, w e ask every parent t o come in t hree t imes a year for St udent Led Conferences, a chance for each st udent t o show of t heir w ork and learning. W e also host regular family event s, such as Family Reading Night or Family Science Night . Parent s are also invit ed t o join our mont hly SSC commit t ee meet ings.

T he school review ed, revised and submit t ed t o t he Board in 2013-14 an updat ed Safet y Plan t hat included: school sit e safet y programs, procedures for complying w it h school safet y law s, and Disast er/Emergency/Crisis Response procedures. W e have regular and ongoing fire drills and disast er drills t o ensure t hat all st udent s and st aff are w ell prepared in case of emergency. W e have also opened an Opport unit y Class and int roduced a T ruancy Program t o make cert ain t hat all st udent s are on campus and safe. As a result , at t endance has increased and suspensions decreased.

T his sect ion provides informat ion on t he annual number of school days dedicat ed t o st aff development for t he most recent t hree-year period. ECP has w orked t o develop a t rue Professional Learning Communit y. Our w eekly professional development focuses on implement ing and maint aining rigorous, grade-level t eaching and learning. W e do t his by w orking t hrough cycles of inquiry w here t eachers ident ify a st andards-based focus, creat e an assessment t hat measures t hat focus, brainst orm w it h colleagues how t o best t each t hat focus, and t hen analyze t he result s of t he assessment . W e are also focusing t his year on t hree research-based pract ices t o improve t eaching and learning: t he development of academic vocabulary, st udent w rit ing, and st udent engagement t echniques. In addit ion t o st aff professional development ret reat s before school in August , mid-year, and end of year, t here w eekly st aff development meet ings and t hree full school days during t he school year.
