fire damper operation and maintenance instructions

Dampers do not typically require maintenance provided they are kept clean and dry. All moving parts are self-lubricating and additional lubrication is not required. If additional lubrication of multi-blade damper axle bearings, jackshaft bearings or jamb seals is desired, use a silicone or dry graphic lubricant.

Do not use petroleum-based lubricants or other lubricants that attract contaminants and collect dust.

Regular inspection and maintenance is essential to ensure that life-safety systems will perform as intended during emergencies. Dampers shall be cycled and tested in accordance with NFPA 90 recommendations and local codes.

Maintenance

Simulated Fire Closure

• Non-Spring Assisted Dampers

Operate the damper by removing the fusible link (or by ‘melting’ the fusible link with a heat source) and allowing the blades to drop or close naturally.

CAUTION - Avoid injury - keep clear of blade travel path. Lift the blade package to the top of the damper to reopen and replace the fusible link.

Take care not to rack, deform or damage the blades while reopening.

• Dynamic Rated OR Spring Assisted Dampers

Due to spring assisted closure force, removing the fusible link is NOT recommended as a means of closure testing. Instead, when testing is required,

‘melt’ the fusible link with an appropriate heat source and allow the blades to close automatically. CAUTION - Avoid injury - Keep clear of blade travel path. Lift the blade package to the top of the damper to reopen and replace the fusible link. Take care not to rack, deform or damage the blades when reopening.

Reopening Spring Assisted OR Dynamic Rated Fire Dampers may be very difficult and in some cases impossible. If the damper is deemed impossible or impractical to test or reopen, then a thorough examination of the blade travel path is required to insure that nothing will prevent the damper from closing. Common obstructions include: retaining angle installation screws, racked damper frames, construction debris and contaminants.

CAUTION - Testing Spring Assisted OR Dynamic Rated Fire Dampers under airflow conditions is not recommended and may severely damage or destroy duct work.

General information

In order to ensure a long and optimum distribution of air, it is necessary to keep the ducts free from dirt and dust. An effective maintenance ensures that the ducts supply the required quantity of air and it also ensures an optimum life for the FabricAir® Dispersion System.

Washing procedure

• Optimum result of laundering can be achieved by turning the ducts inside out before process. If ducts are made with All-in-One – remove the hoops before laundering.

• Pre-rinse: 20oC (70oF) approx. 3 minutes without any detergent.

• Pre-wash: 40oC (104oF) approx. 10 minutes. Quantities of deter- gent as recommended by the supplier.

• Wash: 40oC (104oF) approx. 20 minutes. Quantities of deter- gent as recommended by the supplier.

• Rinse thoroughly after each washing.

• Do not add any softener.

• If possible, ix the ducts immediately after washing and spin- drying them. If ducts are made with All-in-One – reinsert the hoops after laundering.

• Start the ventilation system in order to dry the ducts.

Tumbeling

Tumble at maximally 45oC (110oF) hot air.

Washing interval

We recommend that the ducts are washed 1-2 times per year when using an F85/EU7 ilter. When washing the ducts with this interval the white fabric may, however, take on a greyish colour.

Storing the ducts

Make sure that the ducts are completely dry before folding them up.

The ducts must be stored in a dry room.

Ten-Year Warranty

Products: FabricAir® Trevira CS 100, CS 150 and FabricAir® Combi 60, 65, 70, 80, 85, 90

FabricAir (hereafter referred to as The Company) will repair or replace any part or portion of a purchased FabricAir® Tre- vira CS 100, CS 150 or FabricAir® Combi 60, 65, 70, 80, 85, 90 System found to be defective in workmanship or material under normal use, service, and recommended installation procedures for a period of ten (10) years from date of shipment from the company’s factory. This Warranty covers replacement or repair of the equipment (at the Company’s option).

Five-Year Warranty

Products: FabricAir® Trevira Basic, FabricAir® Combi 20 and 30

FabricAir (hereafter referred to as The Company) will repair or replace any part or portion of a purchased FabricAir®

Trevira Basic, FabricAir® Combi 20 or 30 System found to be defective in workmanship or material under normal use, ser- vice, and recommended installation procedures for a period of ive (5) years from date of shipment from the company’s factory. This Warranty covers replacement or repair of the equipment (at the Company’s option).

Three-Year Warranty

Product: FabricAir® Lite 5, 10, 15 and 20

FabricAir (hereafter referred to as The Company) will repair or replace any part or portion of a purchased FabricAir® Lite 5, 10, 15 or 20 System found to be defective in workmanship or material under normal use, service, and recommended installation procedures for a period of three (3) year from date of shipment from the company’s factory. This Warranty coverage covers replacement or repair of the equipment (at the Company’s option).

One-Year Warranty

Product: FabricAir® Glass 220 & FabricAir® Poly

FabricAir (hereafter referred to as The Company) will repair or replace any part or portion of a purchased FabricAir®

Glass 220 or FabricAir® Poly System found to be defective in workmanship or material under normal use, service, and recommended installation procedures for a period of one (1) year from date of shipment from the company’s factory.

This Warranty coverage covers replacement or repair of the equipment (at the Company’s option).

Claim Procedures for Warranty

All defective items covered by any of the above warranty programs must be returned to the Company with transportation cost prepaid. Current instructions for return procedures, provided by the Company, must be followed to receive warranty.

Contact FabricAir prior to any shipment if in doubt.

General Provisions for Warranty

The FabricAir® warranty covers materials and production of the fabric portion of the FabricAir® System only. The warran- ty is not available in the form of a cash payment. Return transportation and inspection cost incurred by the Company will be charged to the purchaser/user if returned materials is not found to be defective. This warranty does not cover items such as labour, transportation, mileage, equipment rental, freight, product loss or parts incurred as a result of executing the warranty. The above will constitute the Company’s total responsibility. The above warranties will not apply in the event that fabrics are damaged from abuse or misuse; negligence; improper installation; alterations by other then Fab- ricAir® authorized personnel; damage by lood, ire, windstorm, lightning; abrasion, caustic chemicals, exposure to high temperature (over 85°C/180°F), shrinkage or fabric discoloration. Oral statements made by employees or representa- tives of the Company will not constitute warranties. The above warranties apply only to the original purchaser/end-user and original installation and are not transferable. The above warranties apply only if the FabricAir® System is designed, used and serviced according to the requirements in the published FabricAir® design manual, FabricAir® user manual and FabricAir® maintenance manual.
