About This Training Course

Effective management of assets is fundamental to the Power industry. Disruptive failure of assets can have significant implications for a company’s image, performance and in the worse scenario; result in its management team being liable to criminal and civil prosecution. Assets in the Energy business generally have a long life but poor investment decisions will have long-term

repercussions for the business and its performance. Application of good assessment principles will ensure that investment is clearly justified and focused at the right time and for the right equipment.

This course has been carefully designed to provide managers and practitioners in the asset management industry with an understanding of current thinking on modern principles, processes and techniques underpinned by case studies and the opportunity for discussion with other industry professionals.

The course also give a strong insight into legislative direction and the benefits of having a vehicle to support your program such as PAS 55 or the soon to be introduced ISO55000 series for Asset Management.

Dr. David Challis

David Challis has worked at Shell for 15 years in a variety of leadership and technical roles including Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager and Electrical Engineering Manager. He holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Engineering (UNSW) and a PhD in Engineering Management (University of Melbourne - 1996).

Since leaving Shell, David has worked for 15 years in a broad range of Safety Management, Asset Management and Change Agent assignments. He has conducted numerous assignments, in the USA, Asia and Europe in the development and

implementation of Best Practice Asset Management, Performance Management and Project Management Strategies. He regularly presents at Conferences and Forums (eg Maintenance Engineering Association of Australia – MESA on Asset Management and Organisational Best Practices and has delivered over 15 programs to global majors.

David is an experienced manager, facilitator and innovator with the ability to make things happen. Clients include Alcoa, Amcor, BHP, Caltex, Chevron, Conoco Philips, Electrical Operating Authority Of Australia, ERM, Huntsman hemicals, Hyundai, Mobil, Pertamina, Petronas, Qatar Gas, Rio Tinto, Shell, Thai Oil and Woodside Energy.

Mr. Alan Greaves

In a 30 year career with Shell International Pty Ltd, Alan has completed a large variety of leadership and technical roles in the Engineering, Construction and Maintenance areas. In this capacity his portfolio included responsibility for Major Cogeneration Assets (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) and Power Generation Assets (Gas Turbines and Alternators) including associated ancillary equipment and systems. In 2006 Alan left Shell to pursue management and engineering assignments within the Manufacturing, Power and Education sectors. Following a five-year stint in the United Kingdom as Engineering Manager at Shell Haven Refinery, Alan returned to Australia as Engineering Manager and also held a number of regional portfolios including Chairperson South East Asia Asset Reliability Forum. During his career Alan has completed over 25 assignments, in the USA, Canada, Asia, Europe and Australia advising businesses in all areas of Asset Management Excellence for the Energy, Petroleum and Gas sectors. Alan has been utilized as a change agent, coach and facilitator within large organizations developing and implementing Best Practice Asset Management Strategies. He was the foundation chair of the Australian Technical College Geelong and is a Director of several other companies associated with manufacturing in the region. Alan comes from a trade background and holds Tertiary qualifications in metallurgy, welding, and corrosion; he also has a diploma of Business Management and has vast experience in change and people management.
