JUNE 2020 Hi SPC,
We have been sending out from the church office over the last few months individual
scriptures of reassurance during this anxious and uncertain time. We hope they have helped in some way to get us all through this very challenging time.
I have decided to use this space to bring together in one place and time some of those scriptures. My hope is that the accumulated impact of reading those scriptures all at once will be an even greater spiritual strengthening for you than reading them individually at different times.
“I am with you always, even to the close of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
“In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer; I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33)
“Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
“
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
“Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
“My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but
joy, 3
because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; 4and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.” (James 1:2-3)
“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.2
He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;3
he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.4
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff— they comfort me.” (Psalm 23:1-4)
“
I will both lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O LORD, make me lie down in safety.” (Psalm 4:8)
“
I love you, O LORD, my strength.2
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:1-2)
“
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
“I believe that I shall see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.14Wait for the LORD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” (Psalm 27:13-14)
“1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.2
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;3
though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult…The Lord of hosts is with us…Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:1-3,7,10)
NEWS FROM THE CHURCH EDUCATOR
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.
In these very different times that we are experiencing, I find this scripture to be a comfort. I know that we will not always find it easy or simple to trust God completely, but we are commanded to lean not on our own understanding. We are told that if we acknowledge him, he will make straight our paths.
We have no clear idea of when things will be back to “normal” or what we have known as normal will even look like. I feel we will certainly have to adapt to doing some things differently from the way we have always done them.
I am so glad that I serve a powerful and loving God who keeps his promises. My prayer is that all of us will continue to trust God and lean on him and look for the straight paths that he will provide.

COLLEGE GRADUATES
We congratulate all young adults and wish them God’s blessings all through their lives.
Zachary Carpenter, grandson of Myra Carpenter graduated cum laude from Belmont Abbey College with a Bachelors Degree in Business.

NEWS FROM RAINBOW CONNECTION
Rainbow Connection is still a very quiet place these days, but I have seen several parents as they dropped by to pick up their children's books. Our classes for the 2020/2021 school year are almost completely full, with only have a few spots left in the three and four year old classes. We are all very excited about the new year!
Your continued support and prayers mean so much to us. Thank you!

TO THE CONGREGATION
Hello to you All !
I hope you are safe and well! It is hard to believe we have not held our worship services in our church facility for almost three months. They say that you do not appreciate what you have until it is gone. Well, that is exactly how I feel. Shelby Presbyterian Church has been my Church Family since 1992. I am used to being amongst you, singing with you, praying with you, searching for Jesus with you and sometimes mourning with you in times of loss. It is the sameness and togetherness that I crave. I miss the feeling of comfort I have when I close my eyes to confess my sins to God asking Him to lead me forward on a better path knowing you are all with me.
In this time we have been very fortunate to have David Garnett leading us online through YouTube. His focus and insight into the written word have held me together through these tough times. It is difficult for me to express how much inspiration I have gleaned from his Sunday morning words.
I have had the time to ponder many things these last weeks. When I think about this Church, I am amazed by the commitment so many have, to make this community better through our programs and missions. There is so much love and talent in this church family that is shared freely and graciously.
I struggle daily with having to quarantine to prevent the spread of this terrible virus. So many of us are in the “high risk” category. I have thought long and hard about what my life has meant. I worry that I need to have made better preparation for the end of my life if it were to come sooner than later. I question all the things that have been important in my life which have driven me. Have they been the right things? Have they been beneficial or have they been a waste of time? I feel certain many of you have had the same feelings. All of this leads me to a resolve to be as sure as I possibly can be that I do not contribute to the spread of this illness. I will continue to try my best to distance myself from others. It is not yet time to relax. When the time is right our Session will bring us back to worship in the Sanctuary in a safe manner.
I have come to the conclusion that there is a lot to be learned from the situation we are in. We
can question this thing by saying “How can God allow this to happen to us? Why doesn’t he just make it go away?”. I know God is with us, but the greatest gift he has given us (after unconditional Love) is free will. It is sad that we as humans make so many bad decisions. But on the other hand it is wonderful that we can choose. Our challenge is to choose wisely. In these troubled times we have the choice of how we will conduct our lives. I hope we as a church family will do things in such a way as to keep everyone safe. We must pray for each other and the world.
I am thankful that in these weeks I have found a better relationship of cooperation, teamwork and caring with my wife. I have had a chance to reach out to friends and family just to catch up and appreciate that we have each other. In conclusion, I feel like we will exit this pandemic stronger and better. I truly look forward to seeing you all very soon. God be with us all!

JUNE is one of the four months with a length of 30 days. Just like the month of May, no other month begins on the same day as June. This is also the month with the longest daylight hours of the year.
June's birth stones are the Alexandrite (represents health and longevity), the Moonstone (represents change, new beginnings and the shifting tides of emotion), and the Pearl (symbolizes purity of heart and faith, as well as growth and transformation through difficult circumstances).
JUNE
"Far up in the deep blue sky, Great white clouds are floating by; All the world is dressed in green; Many happy birds are seen, Roses bright and sunshine clear Show that lovely June is here!"
