Highlights

The 2013 event marks METALCON’s 23rd year and showcases the latest this industry

has to offer from the best products and ideas to a highly rated education program and a variety of live demonstrations of field techniques. Trends in the industry are covered in every aspect. The use of metal in building projects is increasing, particularly for retrofit, insulated metal panels and cold-formed steel framing. Specialists will present education sessions on these topics and in demos held in the new Metal in Action arena inside the exhibit hall.

The value of metal in sustainable design and green building continues to increase. This is highlighted in Green Island, an area of the exhibits dedicated to metal products used in building energy-saving structures, and in Solar Bay, a special pavilion that showcases the benefits of integrating solar technology with metal roof and wall systems. Products and activities in Solar Bay show how compatible metal and solar technology really are. Using full-scale mock-ups, it showcases the newest solar integration technologies for the building envelope, including rooftop-mounted solar power systems, solar heat recovery systems for roofs and walls, and solar-thermal water heating technologies.

Exhibitors

METALCON has enjoyed very high exhibitor satisfaction rates with more than 90 percent of companies returning each year. At the same time the show consistently attracts new exhibitors who bring their innovative products, ideas and industry experts to METALCON. This year the event welcomes 47 new companies and exhibitors who are returning after a short absence. A list of these exhibitors is included at the end of this kit.

Education - Blending Tradition and Innovation

The 2013 conference program retains its successful 3-hour format tailored to specific disciplines and creating more in-depth opportunities to delve into important

techniques and issues from the field. For each full session, attendees can earn 3 hours of AIA Learning Units, 3 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) and Health Safety and Welfare (HSWs). Topics are designed to meet the needs of residential roofing

contractors; commercial roofing contractors; cold-formed steel design professionals; architects and engineers; building owners, developers, facility managers; and metal

product manufacturers.

Metal in Action –

NEW DEMO AREA

Industry specialists present the latest applications and field techniques in live demonstrations in the exhibit hall. This learning experience is highlighted in a new interactive demo arena called Metal in Action. It combines the best of Solar Bay Live, the Metal Construction Association’s Residential and Commercial Roofing Demos, and Tool Day. With plenty of seating, tables and bleachers, it serves as a touchdown for attendees to learn in a comfortable setting.

The Solar Bay Live portion offers a different keynote presentation each day that focuses on details of specific techniques used to install solar and metal

combinations. It is an extension of Solar Bay, an area of the exhibit hall that features products and education about the growing use of metal and solar technology. It shows the perfect combination of metal roofing with solar applications and is another method of highlighting metal’s role in the green building movement.

The popular MCA demos provide insight on roofing and tool technologies, with discussions and demonstrations of the latest techniques and trends. Attendees can ask questions, work with tools, and have one-on-one discussions with experts.

The tools feature of Metal in Action expands from a single day to a three-day bonus where participants can test the latest tools every show day during exhibit hours. Tools available in the tool demo area are also incorporated into the general demos so attendees can see the tools in action on roof and wall installations and then personally try them in the tool demo area. This year’s tools include drills, power tools, portable hand and electric seamers, and portable sheers.

retrofit applications to show how existing flat roofs can be converted into sloped metal roof systems and how existing aged metal roof systems can be retrofitted with a new metal roof without removing the existing roof.
