Meritor IGroup/SharePoint Migration
VisionIT was selected to support the Web Services and
infrastructure setup for the Meritor SharePoint implementation. The SharePoint implementation involved configuring and building the environment as well as converting the existing internal and external web sites and document repository for all departments over to SharePoint. As the initial implementation of SharePoint for Meritor extensive mapping of data, business rules and
documentation validation will be performed on approximately 400 GB data. The pilot site for the implementation includes
approximately 4500 users and requires migrating approximately 200 GB of data that VisionIT mapped and transformed into the new SharePoint internal instance. The migration for the entire internal and external site is scheduled to complete 1st quarter 2013. When complete, over 4500 users will be supported on Meritor’s
SharePoint application.

military/government. Meritor has a global presence & approximately 5000 employees.
VisionIT’s Managed Service supports its Customer in Web Infrastructure andwith the Microsoft SharePoint
application.
This team supports approximately 40 Microsoft Windows 2003/2008(R2) servers running various IIS Applications and
SharePoint.
The Managed Service team handles the following Incident & Change Management
Continuous improvement
o cleanup of old infrastructure & outdated content
o automating processes to manage daily operations more efficiently
Supporting end users with problems faced in legacy applications
Interact with other departments for: o Improving processes
o Problem resolution
4. Describe the Issue / Driving purpose for the project
Customer’s Web Infrastructure Team began to shrink due to
personnel changes, advancements, and attrition. Customer
was in need of a team to backfill these positions, as well as take the lead role for the rollout of a new collaborationand document management tool (SharePoint)
Customer was at a point where their current technology was beginning to fall behind, and with the push forward, it was apparent several collaboration and
document management tools were in need of upgrading. VisionIT was brought on to spearhead this initiative within the organization. Providing expert resources, the VisionIT group is designing and deploying these new technologies within the customer’s specifications.

This team was asked to join the ranks of the IS department and provide help defining, methods and policies, and also giving insight into the current state of Web Infrastructure
VisionIT has:
Taken ownership of the Web Infrastructure management
Hardware Architecture and deployment of the new SharePoint environment
Develop Information Architecture and User Interface design of new solution to handle new web based collaboration on SharePoint Platform to replace legacy application
Assisting in developing programs within the following spaces surrounding new platform
o Governance o Training o Security
o Backup & Disaster Recovery o Compliance

We are just in the infancy of this endeavor, not enough to gauge yet.
VisionIt resources will be architecting, designing and
deploying a SharePoint platform based on criteria defined by
Customer, & migrating users from legacy collaboration tools into a new, more robust solution. Many subsequent projects on the horizon to be rolled into the new SharePoint platform and VisionIt will be leading the way.
