About the Last One: Bowie jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first when Adley Rutschman homered off rehabbing starter Luis Severino. Somerset carried a 3-2 lead into the seventh, when Zach Watson hit his third home run with Bowie to put the Baysox in front 4-3. However, the Patriots responded with five unanswered runs and win the series opener 8-4.

Starting in Somerset: This series marks the first time Bowie will play the Somerset Patriots, the newest team in the Double-A Northeast League. Somerset replaced the Trenton Thunder this year as the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees. The Baysox play six games in Somerset this week, and the Patriots travel to Bowie for six games between the end of August and beginning of September. Currently, Somerset is in first place in the league.

Brnovich on the Bump: Right-hander Kyle Brnovich will be making his seventh appearance and sixth start with Bowie on Wednesday night. He began his year with High-A Aberdeen and made eight starts there before being promoted to Double-A. Two starts ago against Hartford was his best with the Baysox, as he threw five innings and did not allow a run or a walk, while striking out 10 batters. This is his first professional season. For more information on Brnovich, see page two.

In the Other Corner: Somerset will be starting right-hander Hayden Wesneski in game two against Bowie. Drafted in the sixth round in 2019 out of Sam Houston State, Wesneski began 2021 with High-A Hudson Valley before being promoted to Double-A. This will be his eighth start with the Patriots, and he has a .312 batting average against with a 1.62 WHIP.

This Day in Baysox History: Manny Machado hit for the cycle on August 4th, 2012 in an 8-7 win over Trenton, coincidentally the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees at the time. He finished 4-4 with three RBI.
