Select one of the following three types of connections:

Antenna + DVD Recorder-VCR + TV : No Cable Box

DVD Recorder-VCR

Connect the signal source to the DVD Recorder-VCR

Use an antenna cable to connect the signal source com- ing from the antenna or wall to the VHF/UHF RF-IN jack on the DVD Recorder-VCR.

Connect the DVD Recorder-VCR to the TV

Use the supplied RF cable to connect RF-OUT on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the ANT jack on the TV. Then use the Video/Audio Cable to connect ANALOG AUDIO OUT(R/L)/VIDEO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the Audio & Video jacks on the TV.

● If your TV has an S-Video jack, you can use S-Video cable instead of the yellow video connector on the Video/Audio cable.

● If your TV has Component video jacks, you can use component cables instead of the yellow video con- nector on the Video/Audio cable. Press the Progressive out button on the front of your DVD Recorder-VCR to 480p/480i video output mode. If your TV supports progressive scan, select 480p.

If you have an AV amplifier

Connect either audio cables from the ANALOG AUDIO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the LINE IN jacks on your AV amplifier, or a digital cable from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (COAXIAL or OPTICAL) jack on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the DIGITAL AUDIO IN jack on your AV amplifier.

The Recorder will only record on

DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM discs.

Connect the signal source to the STB

Use an antenna cable to connect the signal source coming from the antenna or wall to the VHF/UHF RF IN jack on the STB.

Connect the STB to the DVD Recorder-VCR

Use the Video/Audio Cable to connect the LINE Out jacks on the STB to the AUDIO/VIDEO LINE 1 IN jacks on the DVD Recorder- VCR.

● For better picture quality, if your STB has an S-Video jack, you can use S-Video cable instead of the yellow video jack on the Video/Audio cable.

Connect the DVD Recorder-VCR to the TV

Use the Video/Audio Cable to connect the ANALOG AUDIO OUT(R/L)/VIDEO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the Audio & Video jacks on the TV.

● For better picture quality, if your TV has an S-Video jack, you can use S-Video cable instead of the yellow video connector on the Video/ Audio cable.

Connect the signal source to the Cable Box

Use an antenna cable to connect the signal source coming from the wall to the RF IN jack on your Cable Box.

Connect your Cable Box to the DVD Recorder

Use an antenna cable to connect the RF OUT jack on your Cable Box to the RF-IN jack on your DVD Recorder-VCR.

Connect the DVD Recorder-VCR to the TV

Use the supplied RF cable to connect RF-OUT on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the ANT jack on the TV. Then use the Video/

Audio Cable to connect the ANALOG AUDIO OUT(R/L)/VIDEO OUT jacks on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the Audio & Video jacks on the TV.

● For better picture quality, if your TV has an S-Video jack, you can use S-Video cable instead of the yellow video connector on the Video/Audio cable.

(COAXIAL or OPTICAL) jack on the DVD Recorder-VCR to the

DIGITAL AUDIO IN jack on your AV amplifier.

Wait! Make sure you complete Step before proceeding with Step .

After all connections are complete, plug the power cord in the wall outlet. The word “AUTO” will flicker in the front panel display. It means that the current time is being set automatically (Auto Program) through the antenna under connection. The setup may take several minutes. When it normally operates, the current time is automatically set and displayed in the front panel display.

If “- - - -“ appears, however, it means that auto time setting has failed. In that case, set the current time through the manual initial setup.

For ease of use, we recommend that you complete the following set- tings before using the DVD Recorder-VCR.

Turn on your TV and your DVD Recorder-VCR Clock Set

Turn on your TV and your DVD Recorder-VCR

After turning power on, it will take a few seconds until the DVD operates.

Clock Set

If your clock is set to the wrong time zone or daylight saving, you can adjust these settings.

If your clock cannot be set automatically, set the clock manually.

With the unit in Stop or play mode, press the MENU button.

Select Setup using the …/†buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select Clock Set using the …/†but- tons, then press the

√ or ENTER but- ton.

Select Manual Clock using the

…/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

● The Clock Set will change as shown.

Set the Clock Use the œ/√ but- tons to select each of the following options, then use the …/†

buttons to set each option:

● Month -Set the month.

● Day - Set the day.

● Year - Set the year.

● Hour - Set the hour.

● Minute - Set the minute.

● AM/PM - Set the AM/PM.

Channel Set

With the unit in Stop mode, press the MENU button.

Select Setup using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select Channel Set using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select Signal Source (Antenna/Cable TV) using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select Antenna or Cable TV using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select Auto Channel Memory using the

…/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Auto Channel Memory will be displayed and channels will be saved into memory.

Audio Setup

(Refer to “Audio Setting” of the User’s manual for more information) Allows you to set up the audio device and sound setting depending on the your audio system.

With the unit in Stop mode, press the MENU button.

Select Setup using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select Audio using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select the sub menu (Digital Output, DTS or Dynamic compression) using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Allows you to set up the audio device and the sound.

Use the …/† buttons to select the desired item (PCM, Bitstream, DTS-Off, DTS-On, Dynamic Compression-On or Off), then press the √ or ENTER button.

Video Setup

(Refer to “Setting up the Display (Video) Options” on page 29 of the User’s manual for more information) This allows you to set up the TV screen settings.

With the unit in Stop mode, press the MENU button.

Select Setup using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select Video using the …/† buttons, then press the √ or ENTER button.

Select TV Aspect using the …/† buttons, then press the

√ or ENTER button.

Press the …/† buttons to select the desired item (4:3 Letter Box, 4:3 Pan-Scan or 16:9 Wide), then press the √ or ENTER button.

The following instructions will give you a quick overview about how to use the DVD Recorder-VCR.

Formatting a Disc

Formatting a Disc

When you insert a blank disc, you will be asked whether or not you want to format or initialize it. Since available functions differ depend- ing on the disc type, select a disc that best fits your preferences.

DVD-RAM : Must be formatted.

DVD-RW : When Yes is selected, the mode will be formatted in VR mode.

If you want to format in Video mode, refer to

“Formatting a Disc” on page 88 of the User’s manual for more informa- tion.

DVD-R : Formatting is unnecessary and only Video Mode Recording is supported.

Press the MENU button with the disc stopped.

Press the …/† buttons to select Disc Manager, and then press the

ENTER

or √ button.

Press the …/† buttons to select Disc Format, and then press the

ENTER

or √ button.

DVD-RAM(VR)

You will be prompted with the confirmation message 'Do you want to format disc?'.

Press the œ/√ buttons to select Yes, then press the ENTER button. The DVD- RAM disc is formatted.

DVD-RW

You will be prompted with the confirmation message

’Choose the recording for- mat for DVD-RW’.

Press the œ/√ buttons to select the desired format type, then press ENTER.

The DVD-RW Disc is for- matted.

Recording the current TV program you are watching

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button, and place a recordable disc on the disc tray or insert a VCR tape.

You can not change the recording speed or the channel while recording to DVD disc. But you can change the recording speed while recording to VCR tape.

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to close the disc tray.

Wait until “LOAD” disappears from the front panel display.

When using the VCR, “LOAD” doesn’t display.

● If a blank DVD-RAM or DVD-RW disc is used, you will be asked whether or not you want to format or initialize it .

● DVD-RAM/DVD-RW discs should be formatted in advance before starting to record.

● Most new discs are sold unformatted. Make sure that your unformatted discs are formatted before recording

● Recording will stop automatically if copy protected content is selected.

● If a tape doesn’t have safety tab, you can’t record on that tape.

Press the CH ( / ) or number (0~9) buttons to select the current channel you want to record.

Press the REC SPEED button repeatedly, to select the recording speed (quality).

Information concerning the channel being recorded is displayed on the screen and recording begins.

To stop recording

Press the STOP (■) button to stop or finish a recording in progress.

To pause recording

Press the REC PAUSE button to pause a recording in progress.

Press the REC PAUSE button again to resume recording.

You can switch channels by pressing the CH ( / ) buttons while recording is paused.

Making a Timer Recording

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button, and place a recordable disc on the disc tray or insert a VCR tape.

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button, to close the disc tray.

Press the MENU button in Stop mode.

Press the …/† buttons to select Timer Rec., and then press the ENTER or √ button.

Press the …/† but- tons to select Timer Record, and then press the ENTER button.

You can also set a timer recording via the TIMER REC button. The Timer Record Input items (Date/Time etc.) are displayed.

Fill in the items using the …/†/œ/√ buttons.

● TO : Select the media to record DVD or VCR

● SOURCE : The video input source (L1 or L2), or the broadcast- ing channel you want to make a timer recording for.

● Date : Set the recording day.

● Start/End Time : Start and end time of the timer recording.

● Type (Recording cycle) Once : Records once Weekly : Records at a set time once a week.

Daily : Record at a set time every day.

● Mode (Recording mode) Press the ENTER but- ton.

The ( ) icon and Timer Set will appear on the front panel display, indicating a timer recording is set.

Recording automatically begins when the set time is reached.

Auto mode is selected, the video quality is adjusted automatically so that scheduled recordings fit onto the free disc or tape space.

Finalizing a Disc

After you record programs onto a DVD-RW/DVD-R disc with your DVD Recorder-VCR, it needs to be finalized before it can be played back on external devices.

Press the MENU button with the disc stopped.

Press the …/† buttons to select Disc Manager, and then press the ENTER or √ button.

Press the …/† button to select Disc Finalize, and then press the ENTER or √ button.

You will be prompted with the message 'Do you want to finalize disc?'. If you select Yes, you will be prompted again with the message 'Disc will be finalized.

Do you want to contin- ue?'.

Press the œ/√ buttons to select Yes, and then press the ENTER button.

The disc is finalized.

Once a disc is finalized, you cannot delete entries from the record list.

After being finalized, the DVD-R/DVD-RW(Video mode) operates in the same manner as a regular DVD-Video disc.

Depending on the disc type, the screen display may appear different.

During finalizing, Don’t turn off the power.
