MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Welcome to Loyola Marymount University. After reading the material in this brochure, I hope you are as enthusiastic about the educational opportunities at this University as I am.

Participation in the MBA Program is for the serious, dedicated person who is self-motivated, concerned about self-improvement and career enhancement, and willing to make significant personal sacrifices to achieve the prestige of being a Program graduate.

In making your decision to apply, please keep several factors in mind. The MBA Program has a very strong international orientation. It is our belief that business is international, or conversely, there is little that can be called domestic business. Therefore, in joining the MBA Program, be prepared to be an international thinker. Read further about the Comparative Management Systems courses.

The MBA Program is concerned with business ethics. Expect to be challenged to explain the ethical

implications of your decision in a case analysis. You will be requested to attend events at our annual Business Ethics Fortnight.

You must be mentally and emotionally prepared to deal with a faculty who expect great things from you. They may expect more than you think you can give. This is where the personal challenge and sacrifice become real.

Finally, you will join others who continue to extend our network of friendship and influence. It is a growing force both in Los Angeles and beyond.

The first indication of your preparation and dedication is self-analysis to answer the question, "Am I ready to begin and persevere to the end?" If so, move aggressively through the admission process. You will experience professional and friendly treatment, both of which come easily from people dedicated to excellence in all that we do.

earn a Certificate in International Business along with your MBA degree.

promote the highest standards of personal integrity and professional responsibility. Throughout the year, faculty also

fiduciary relationships, personal moral standards, product and customer issues, and working conditions are examples

of topics discussed in some of the MBA courses.

The College of Business Administration’s Center for Ethics and Business sponsors an annual Business

Ethics Fortnight every spring. The centerpiece of this two-week event is an intercollegiate student-team

SUCCESSFUL ALUMNI

We have graduated over 2,000 MBA alumni since 1976. We are proud of our alumni and their successes in the

The MBA Program at Loyola Marymount University has been a great asset in helping me reach my own goals in the business arena. The high caliber of education that I received, combined with the team-oriented approach in the curriculum, has provided me with the ability and the confidence to successfully lead people and companies. The global focus of the LMU MBA Comparative Management Systems (CMS) sequence is a unique opportunity to have exclusive access to companies on a number of different continents. This international orientation has given me the insight on how companies compete on a global scale. What has been an unexpected bonus is the support of the alumni after I graduated. The LMU MBA Alumni Association provides a wide variety of networking, career placement, continuing education and social events. At a recent Meet the Firms Night, for example, over 250 LMU MBA students and alumni met with company representatives from a wide variety of industries. Overall, the LMU MBA Program provided the experience that was key to my career development. It has prepared me to meet the challenges of today’s fast changing business environment.

MBA CURRICULUM

To qualify for the Master of Business Administration degree, you must satisfy the requirements of at least 18

courses. As many as nine of the initial or CORE curriculum courses may be waived if you demonstrate a current

knowledge of their contents. If you recently earned an undergraduate business degree from an AACSB-accredited

American university and excelled in your studies, you can probably begin taking advanced courses immediately. To

satisfy the University's residence requirement, a minimum of ten graduate MBA courses must be taken at LMU.

Two broad divisions of courses exist in the MBA Program: the CORE and the ADVANCED curriculum.

The CORE curriculum consists of nine specific courses that comprise the common body of knowledge of business

administration.

• The Legal and Ethical Environments of Business • Financial and Managerial Accounting

• Management and Organizational Behavior • Marketing Management

• Operations Analysis and Decision Support Systems • Financial Management

(17)

The ADVANCED curriculum consists of nine additional elective classes. The student is given the

opportunity to obtain both specialized knowledge in a particular area of emphasis and generalized knowledge in

supporting areas. Depth in a specialized field of knowledge is obtained by the selection of three classes within one

of eight designated areas of emphasis. To satisfy the breadth requirements, students must take five advanced

electives from several other fields.

The final level of the MBA Program provides the student with an integrating experience designed to draw

together the knowledge gained in the Program. Three integrative options are available, as described below. Areas of Emphasis

INTERNATIONAL MBA CURRICULUM

The International MBA Program emphasizes a strong business curriculum that is based on global business practices,

environments, and cultures. The Comparative Management Systems sequence provides a unique capstone to the

MBA Program.

Students who fulfill the requirements of the International MBA Program receive a Master of Business

Administration degree plus a Certificate in International Business.

The CORE Curriculum for the International MBA Program is the same as that of the MBA Program. To

qualify for the International Certificate, MBA students must complete at least nine advanced courses and comply
