Dear ELMSter, Welcome to the University of North Texas ‐ Department of Library & Information Sciences and the ELMS Cohort MLS Program. CONGRATULATULATIONS! We have received your application from the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies and have admitted you as a Library Science/Information Science Master’s student for the spring 2014 semester. You will begin the MLS program in January 2014 at the Web Institute to be held at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Library in Little Rock, AR. I am Dr. Yvonne Chandler. Cohort Director and your Advisor for the ELMS Cohort. I will be working with you over the next two years as you matriculate through the MLS program. If you received an e‐mail from the College of Information, stating there are test scores or Letters of Recommendations not yet received, you must submit the documents before the end of your first semester. The Graduate School will not permit students to continue to take courses for a second semester if any of the above items are still outstanding. Remember that core courses begin with the web institutes and continue online for the remainder of the semester. Lectures, chat sessions, assignments, and examinations will be available and submitted online through the Blackboard instructional platform. I will send an informational page with additional instructions, textbook information, and reading material for advance preparation for the Web Institute. ADVISING & REGISTRATION PROCESS Every semester each student must submit an advising memo to your advisor in order to reserve seats for you in classes. Send your advising memos to me for courses that you would like to take during the Summer and Fall semesters. For example, enrolling in 5 hours means you will spend 20 ‐ 25 hours a week on assignments. Please plan accordingly, especially if you work or have family obligations. Blackboard LEARN Tutorials: We use the online application Blackboard LEARN for all online courses. If you are not familiar with Blackboard LEARN, see the Blackboard On Demand Learning Center for short how‐to videos on how to use Blackboard as a student. 3. Tips for Coursework ‐ http://courses.unt.edu/schamber/TipsForCoursework.pdf. This is an excellent document and you should take the time to read it! 4. Learn your EUID and reset your password. If you're not sure of what your EUID is, you can find it on the Account Management System page at https://ams.unt.edu/whatsmyeuid.php. 6.
