This event is jointly organised by the Council of Europe project “Support to the implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine”, the Appeal Court of the Zaporizhya Oblast and the Association of

Judges of Zaporizhya Oblast

Objective of the event:

- to discuss the standards of the Council of Europe and practice of European countries concerning the powers of the court presidents and functioning of justice, including in the light of the upcoming Opinion of the CCJE no. 19;

- to analyse the changing powers of the court presidents as a part of the judicial

reform processes in Ukraine;

- to discuss the functioning of courts in the situations affected by the conflicts in the East and South of Ukraine.

Participants:

- presidents and judges of the Supreme Court of Ukraine and of the three high courts;

- presidents of appeal courts of the general, administrative and commercial jurisdictions;

- representatives of the Council of Judges of Ukraine; - judges of other levels within the court system; - representatives of the Presidential Administration.

Themes for discussion:

- role and powers of court presidents in Ukraine and in Europe;

- links between the role of court presidents and the quality of the functioning of

justice in Ukraine;
