ROLE DESCRIPTION

Responsible and accountable to the Head of Estates Engineering for providing assistance and control on all aspects of the installation, maintenance, adaption, operation and energy conservation related to electrical services and ancillary equipment on the University Estate.
Sub heading
1. Organise and implement requests for installation, adaption and maintenance of electrical services including fire alarms and data lines in association with the other members of the Estates management team.
2. obtain estimates and budgetary control for contracts on maintenance and specialist equipment.
3. control contracts for adaptions and installation from inception to completion including design and specification, supervision of site work, financial control and where necessary use of external consultants to assists with design and specification where necessary. 4. Ensure all electrical work carried out by contract labour meets University standards and are
in accordance with current Codes of Practice and Electrical Regulations.
5. Contribute to the planned maintenance schedules for the electrical infrastructure. 6. Organise and implement periodic Inspection and Testing of all University buildings on a
continuous rolling programme and action all necessary remedial works from this Inspection and Testing.
7. As the Senior Authorised person be responsible for the control and operation of the University’s high and low voltage switch gear and issue ‘authorisations’ for operations by others.
8. Ensure the adequate availability and supply of electrical services to all University buildings. 9. Assist the Energy Manager to implement energy saving initiatives.
10. Ensure all safety procedures are implemented to meet University and statutory regulations, where necessary, implement ‘a permit to work’ system for high voltage systems.
11. Organise the issue of electrical certificates covering licensed areas.
12. Inspect electrical infrastructure and obtain estimates for any necessary work to be included in the Long Term Maintenance Programme.

13. Investigate faults on electrical systems and advise on remedial actions. 14. Participate in an ‘out of hours’ On Call emergency service.
15. Carry out such other duties commensurate with the grading and purpose of the post, as may be required by the Engineering Officer.
16. Update all Computer Aided Design (CAD) drawings as and when alterations and building refurbishments take place
17. Procure maintenance contracts for site Generators, Uninterruptible Power supply (UPS) and Isolated Power Supply (IPS) emergency back-up systems.
18. Assume responsibility for statutory requirements relating to lifts, emergency lighting and other aspects of electricity and work regulations.

OUTLINE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE APPOINTMENT
Term of appointment: Continuing appointments are offered. The appointment is Grade 8
and the salary range for this grade is £30,122 - £35,938 per annum.
Holiday entitlement: Holiday entitlement is 30 days with the public holidays and
University closure days in addition.
Pension: Eligible staff are offered a defined benefit pension with the University
Superannuation Scheme.
Performance related pay: In addition to the basic salary, the University operates a PRP
scheme. Awards are determined on an annual basis.
Qualifications: Successful candidates will be required to produce evidence of their
qualifications upon joining the University.
Relocation: Newly-appointed staff are required to establish their homes within
reasonable daily travelling distance to and from the University. The University operates a relocation scheme to assist newly-appointed staff in meeting this requirement. Full details of the relocation scheme are included with offers of appointment.
Medical examination: It is a condition of appointment that newly-appointed staff receive
medical clearance from the University’s Health Centre.
