Year 5 : Literacy Week 2 Day 1 LI: To demonstrate understanding of view point in my writing Success Criteria

I can convey a range of emotions through my work. I can create realistic characters through description.

I can use a mixture of simple, compound and complex sentences to add variety and interest. Read chapter 5 today

Your task is to write a recount of the experience at the farm as the pig.

As you read, imagine that you are the pig and note down any feelings you might have had towards the Savage and what was happening at that moment in time.

Think about:

 How would you describe how the pig was feeling?

 What recount do you have of the Savage meeting the Pig?  What might the pig have thought after this encounter?

There I was, minding my own business as all pigs do, until I heard the sound of grunts in the distance. At first, I thought it was a few of my friends from the other farms, but I did not hear the patter of hooves across the cobbled farm lanes. A tall, slim silhouette scrambled over the fence like a wild animal and my inquisitive nature began to arise. Your task is to write a diary entry as mum.

Think about

 What does mum think of Blue’s story? Does she believe him?  How does she feel about Blue writing these stories?

 What does she think will happen next?

Dear diary,

Blue’s imagination is getting the better of him again. Although I love to hear the creative stories he dreams in his head, I do wonder where these stories come from. Are these his dreams? Is he witnessing something darker that I could imagine? Jess is yet again missing her daddy, and what can I say, I miss him more than I could imagine. Throughout this chapter, the Savage breaks into Hoopers house. Today you will write as the Savage’s conscience and help him make the right decision.

Think about:

How the Savage might have been feeling? What was his motive?

What advice would you give him to sway him to make the right decision?

Feelings outraged sympathy regret decision terrified revenge

Savage I know how you must feel right now, and I know it must be difficult to think of the right thing to do. You have every right to feel the way you do, but how would your mum feel? Think about your life and how you would like it to fair out.

LI: To write a dialogue between Hooper and a newspaper reporter

Success Criteria

Your task is to write a conversation between Hooper and newspaper reporter. Imagine that Hooper has went to the local newspaper think about:

- What questions would the reporter have?

- How was Hooper feeling? Does he say exactly what he saw?

- What are the next stages for Hooper and how might the reporter proceed with the report?

“I am now reporting from Adien’s lane, where a young, helpless boy was threatened and attacked whilst he slept peacefully in his bed” spoke the reporter calmly, “Can you please explain in your own words what happened?”

“Well I was in a very deep sleep when I felt a punch in my face, blood rolled down the side of my face towards the pillow,” Cried Hooper.

Year 5 : Literacy Week 2 Day 5 LI: To write a narrative

Success Criteria

I can use a range of punctuation correctly

I can make links with in and between paragraphs

I can use description, action and dialogue to move the story forwards.

Read chapter 10

Your task today is to write a short narrative, based on what the Savage sees and does past the wall.

Think about: What he might do next? What might be behind the wall? How could you describe the setting?

Planning frame

P1) Setting the scene: What is behind the wall, what does the savage see? Remember to use the 5 senses

- Smells the rotting leaves on the ground

- Feels the branches brushing past his skin

P2) How does Blue feel? Does he have to search for the Savage?

P3) What conversation does the Savage and Blue have? What

adventure do they plan together?

P4) How does Blue explain his story to the Savage? How does the Savage feel? How can Blue help the Savage? P5) How does your story end? How does Blue feel? What is his family life like?

Refer back to the word banks and your outcomes from the last 2 weeks to help you with your final piece.

A foul stench surrounded me as I crawled through the dilapidated brick wall. Whilst I found my feet, I felt the adrenaline hit my body and give me the courage to continue with me decision. I would find the Savage, and I would tell him about my stories and my powers. The forest surrounded me and the wind howled through the air as I gathered my thoughts and steadied my feet. The soft squelch of the leaves comforted me and I began to trudge forward, without a fear entering my thoughts.
